About Kristine Percy

Sun Dappled Farms is the work of two sisters who grew up in the house across the street from this property. Kate moved back home to Illinois in 2008 after living in New York City & New Jersey for over 20 years. A graduate of chef school, she became interested in grass farming in her pursuit of nutritious, delicious, and environmentally-friendly food. Sister Kris lives in Southern California but shares the passion for farming & food.

Kristine Percy purchased this house in 2009

Why Kristine Percy chose Elmwood

We had always loved the house and the pasture that makes up the six acres on this side of the road. When the property came up for sale in 2009, Kris & her husband felt fortunate to be able to buy it. We have enjoyed introducing people from around the world to our little slice of paradise.

Lovely Retreat for Old Friends

  • 5 of 5

It was so hard to leave this beautiful farmhouse after a long, relaxing weekend with old friends. It was the perfect meeting point for us: 3 couples and 3 children from the St. Louis and Chicago areas. The home was very tidy and well decorated inside, but the real charm of the place was the peaceful surroundings, all the different animals to enjoy, the berm garden, and of course, my favorite, the natural swimming pond! Our kids all live in more urban areas and having a space like this to let them roam around, inspect bugs and frogs, feed the goats and pet baby bunnies was just so special to them (and us!). We all loved the natural swimming pond, which is now surrounded by herbs and other lush vegetatation, there are also towering sunflowers that are just about to bloom.

Serene farm to escape the city

  • 5 of 5

Kris and her sister Kate have made this an incredibly special place. From the beautifully restored farmhouse, to the friendly goats and sheep in the backyard, to the sublime swimming pond next door (the on-line photos do not do it justice). It is obvious how much love and care have gone into making this a beautiful retreat (not to mention a working sustainable farm).

We had three couples and their cumulative three children stay at the farm house over fourth of July. We are all from the city so it was important to us to find a place that allowed us to "get away from it all" and enjoy the peacefulness of the countryside. Kris and Kate's farm was the perfect setting as we barely saw another soul other than Kate and her two farm helpers. All of them were extremely friendly and were happy to answer our questions about the farm, the animals and how everything worked.

I also cannot say enough about the glorious swimming pond. I have never seen or swam in anything like it and didn't even know something like that was possible. It is pristinely clear and beautifully landscaped. If for no other reason visit the farm stay for the pond alone.

We had such a wonderful weekend here I'm not even stressed thinking about going back to work tomorrow. I highly recommend this place for large or small groups looking for a place to reconnect with friends, family and the simple life.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Our son got married in Peoria, and the entire family stayed here. It was great place to get ready for the wedding! We all had our own rooms, and we could do all our own cooking and avoid having our meals at restaurants, which was perfect for the children. The owner responded quickly to any questions, and if we were missing anything she was quick to provide it.

Thanksgiving

  • 5 of 5

We just returned to Colorado after a wonderful Thanksgiving at this home. We had 3 couples, a 3 month old, and a 2 year old. Our family is from Illinois and we wanted to celebrate the holiday and a special birthday. We had 25+ for Thanksgiving day and with family bringing a couple card tables and folding chairs we all had a place to sit. The weather was cold and snowy and the house stayed warm and cozy!

We had a minor issue with some plumbing and the owners responded immediately and took care of the problem.

I would stay here again, hopefully when we can enjoy the front porch!

The upstairs bath with the heated floors was very nice!! The kitchen had everything we needed and the appliances were great. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a relaxing, country experience!

Great stay at farmhouse

  • 5 of 5

Our family recently enjoyed a wonderful stay at the farmhouse (our second stay in a two-year period). We have a young daughter who loves going to the farm and we enjoy watching her interact with all of the animals. The accommodations are nice, clean, and comfortable- delivered as pictured in the photos. Very relaxing environment; provides for a unique weekend. Peoria is only 15 minutes away and offers numerous restaurants & amenities but you really feel away from everything while you are here. Very easy drive from St. Louis and a wonderful weekend getaway. Can not recommend this house highly enough.

Thank You!!

  • 5 of 5

Many thanks for a lovely respite from our Chicago city life. We really enjoyed spending the weekend in this beautiful home, and especially enjoyed the well equipped modern farm kitchen, the heavenly spa bathroom, the super comfortable beds, the relaxing porch, and the fuzzy blankets! It was fun to watch the young lambs, and to chat with Kate and Mary about sustainable farming. James was a fabulous 'tour guide', and provided highly entertaining conversations. Our daughter enjoyed lots of space to dance, and practicing at the baby grand.

We highly recommend this lovely home, and hope to come back again!
