Built in the 70's by owner/developer Max Lim, the Big Surf was Max's vision to accommodate surfers on a budget. Max Lim, an avid big wave surfer, surfed the North Shore of Oahu on 30 foot waves. His love of the ocean and surfing began at Waikiki Beach and Ala Moana Beach Park. Max eventually developed the Big Surf Hotel on the property he built his family home back in the 50's.

A family run operation, the Big Surf is now managed as a condo/apartment by Max's daughter, Maxine Shea.

About Susan Liang

As Property Manager for 45 units in this building since December of 2009, I am born and raised in Hawaii and the daughter of land developer, Max Lim who originally built this building in 1975 My father first opened the Big Surf Hotel to accommodate price conscious travelers and surfers, being that he himself was a big wave surfer, one of the first to surf the ferocious North Shore including Sunset Beach and Waimea Bay. It recently converted to condominium apartments however a few rentals continue on as vacation rentals.

Why Susan Liang chose South Oahu

My father purchased this property for our 2 bedroom family house originally and converted it into a building after he decided the location was perfect for a 17 story hotel complex. Location is everything and being near the beach was very important to my father who loved to surf at Waikiki and take laps at Ala Moana Beach Park, which is minutes from the Big Surf.
