My kids and I stayed at the Adams home over April vacation. The house and it’s setting are terrific
This was my first experience with a log cabin and it added a lot to the sense of being away. We usually tent camp,so it was nice to have the rustic vibe in a very, very comfortable setting - hot tub, big back porch, loads of room, two bathrooms, and a game room in the basement. I highly recommend this place!
My husband and I loved every moment of our stay in this beautiful cabin. The area was perfect as we wanted to experience Moosehead during the snowy season. We had an awesome experience snowmobiling w/ a guide that took us for a great ride around the area. We were able to snowshoe on Moosehead Lake from right outside the cabin! We saw lots of deer that came right up to the back porch! Kim was awesome too. He was very accommodating and made sure we were able to get into the cabin as that area had recently received a lot of snow. We really appreciated his kindness and knew that he would be able to help us should any issues arise. Thankfully none did and my husband and I were able to have fun together and enjoy our vacation away from it all. Thank you for everything Kim!
Cozy and quaint, great winter family getaway!
Loved our stay here! Awesome location with lots of wildlife and close to snowmobile trails! Cozy and rustic with room enough for the whole family. Hot tub and game room a plus! Would stay again!
House was good size but upon arrival found the house very cold. After contacting the owner he stated we needed to “dress appropriately” and that they like it colder. If renting a home out to the public I think the owner should be more accommodating for people who like it above 60 degrees inside. Make sure you read everything. There is about a 5-6 page camp guide/manual. House is not sound proof at all. If going with big group bring ear plugs because you can hear everything. Place was as described but will never rent there again. Too overpriced for what you get.
I am truly sorry that your stay did not meet your expectations or the level of satisfaction found by the great majority of our renters.
This is a genuine log home, and as such, does take a couple hours to come up to temperature in the winter months after it has been unoccupied for a few days. However, the relatively new oil fired forced hot air heating system will maintain temperatures in the recommended mid to upper sixties with a corresponding thermostat setting even during an extreme cold stretch like we just had. Although we ask that it be used primarily for ambiance and not a major heating source, there is also a large wood fireplace in the great room.
I guess I had always assumed that people who reserve at a lakeside log home in the northern Maine Highlands in mid-winter do not expect to be walking around the house in short sleeved t-shirts. I will, however, add the mention of our winter dress recommendation, that is in the manual, to the property description.
Lastly, I can't help wonder if this review would have been more favorable if I had not penalized this group for exceeding the contracted number of guests and the maximum occupancy level.
Great Maine Deluxe Log Cabin Experience!
The home sleeps many, and our group had a great, relaxing and fun filled weekend. Exactly what we hoped. Once you light a fire in the ginormous stone fireplace you will not want to leave the comfy living room. But the environment around Spencer View is breathtakingly gorgeous. The house looks out at Big Spencer Mountain, and is situated at a quiet area of beautiful Moosehead Lake. We played hours of billiards, board games, cards, and jumped in the hot tub under the stars. Kim was an excellent host - very communicative, very professional. We will try and return year after year.
This cabin is exactly what we expected for a Christmas/NewYears celebration. Despite the harsh weather we had these 10 days it was truly a magical experience.
We have been to Maine three times since moving to the NY area 2 years ago, and have been dreaming of seeing Moose since day one. We were lucky to have encountered not one but 10 of them on this visit. There was plenty of snow this trip! We were able to take the kids skiing for the first time to the ski resort at Big Squaw. The rates were reasonable and the kids had private lessons. It was so cold but the hot cocoa and soup sold at the indoor food counter warms you up.
The cabin itself was almost perfect. Again, we had very harsh temperatures while we were there so it was a little cold and took a while to warm up. There is one TV in the living room with cable. The kids enjoyed playing pool, foosball, and ping pong in the basement (most know the struggle to keep an 11 and 13 year old entertained without electronics but not one time did they complain!). The kitchen is stocked with all the necessary items to cook all your meals. The refrigerator is a little small and we had to remove the ice trays to hold all the food we had purchased for the trip, but it was no inconvenience to us at all. The washer and dryer were utilized and convenient to dry our wet clothes after playing outside.
I would recommend this cabin. It sits right above the lake. We were lucky enough to see Deer, Wolves, Foxes and other wildlife while on our visit. The care taker is very attentive and made sure our drive was plowed daily. The town is majestic. It has cute little stores to buy all the souvenirs you need.
Overall I would say this is a perfect rustic place to spend your holidays! We had a white Christmas the cabin was decorated for us with a small tree and a couple of well placed items. It was a trip to remember but if going there in the winter bring your flannel sheets they saved us! Oh and we had our fury friends with us and they loved it just don't let them out alone (the warning we were given by the caretaker cause of the wildlife).
