Aloha! I am a local resident born and raised here in Hawai'i. I have happy dogs, several chickens, goats and horses. I still love to ride my horse, go the beach and simply be with my family. You can often find me working around my home and tending to our animals. I love to travel, and enjoy the simple things in life.
Owner purchased this House in 1890
Why Owner chose Hilo
This was my grandfather's home which later became my mother's home of which I was raised in. It offers the splendor of the yester-years. My family has been in Hawai`i for over 6 generations. I am happy to share the Aloha of this beautiful home with others, the Hawaiian way.
What makes this House unique
Each room is unique with furnishings from the past such as a Koa 4 poster King size bed, and twin beds dated back as far as 1900's. High ceilings throughout the home. Hand painted floral designs on the walls in the living room, dinning room and family room. Koa panels surround the family room. Simple kitchen well equipped that leads to the laundry room, twin beds and back yard.

Good location, Nice view
The house is closed to downtown but in very quiet area.
Beautiful ocean view and nice backyard garden.
We would love to stay here again.
charming, convenient, beautiful....i highly recommend this location and this house-the owners were super helpful-excellent in every way
Spacious, gorgeous views, wonderful hostess!
This property was our very favorite place on Hawaii!
Hale Alani is a charming, historic home located right on scenic Hilo Bay. We arrived in the dark (all the frogs croaking), and were enchanted when we awoke to the beautiful porch overlooking the sunrise over the bay. The home was clean, well-appointed, and very comfortable. The owner, Pudding, came by to welcome us, regale us with stories of her family, and make sure we had everything we needed. She stocked the refrigerator with necessities, and left fresh fruit, rolls, and a bottle of wine on the kitchen table. The large windows open for a lovely breeze. If you want glitzy digs with air conditioning, this isn't your place. But if you appreciate history, charm and character, as well as great views, stay with Pudding. You will be glad you did.
Wonderful Old Hawaii
We were looking for an "Old Hawaii" experience, and this place met that goal and then some. The character of the house was like being at grandma's. The lovely grounds and the nostalgia within the house was perfect for us. The owner is delightful and very accommodating. Evenings and early mornings on the lanai were wonderful watching life on Hilo Bay. The proximity to the town was very convenient. We did spend one night away at Kona and were so glad to "get home."
Fantastic character house in great location
With Hilo as the best centre for our itinerary this was the perfect house for us. Beautiful gardens, the ocean at the bottom of the garden and great feel and character, also made to feel welcome with a welcome bag of fruit on arrival, donoughts in the week and a parting gift of chocolate coated nuts. Only downsides although character looked great seating not that practical or comfortable and kitchen a bit lacking but in the overall context only minor niggles to a great property.
Horseback riding is an offered feature while staying at Hale Alani. Inquire at time of booking
