Whales can be seen jumping starting as early as March.

About The Owner

Aloha! I am a local resident born and raised here in Hawai'i. I have happy dogs, several chickens, goats and horses. I still love to ride my horse, go the beach and simply be with my family. You can often find me working around my home and tending to our animals. I love to travel, and enjoy the simple things in life.

The Owner purchased this house in 1890

Why The Owner chose Hilo District

This was my grandfather's home which later became my mother's home of which I was raised in. It offers the splendor of the yester-years. My family has been in Hawai`i for over 6 generations. I am happy to share the Aloha of this beautiful home with others, the Hawaiian way.

What makes this house unique

Each room is unique with furnishings from the past such as a Koa 4 poster King size bed, and twin beds dated back as far as 1900's. High ceilings throughout the home. Hand painted floral designs on the walls in the living room, dinning room and family room. Koa panels surround the family room. Simple kitchen well equipped that leads to the laundry room, twin beds and back yard.

Fantastic character house in great location

  • 5 of 5

With Hilo as the best centre for our itinerary this was the perfect house for us. Beautiful gardens, the ocean at the bottom of the garden and great feel and character, also made to feel welcome with a welcome bag of fruit on arrival, donoughts in the week and a parting gift of chocolate coated nuts. Only downsides although character looked great seating not that practical or comfortable and kitchen a bit lacking but in the overall context only minor niggles to a great property.

Location, Location, Location

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights in July and we had a great time. It is so close to town, which is really convenient. The landscaping is lovely and it is right on the ocean. Perfect for sunrises (if it didn't rain while we were there). The area it is located in is quiet and safe. The back porch is a great place to have coffee in the morning while staying out of the rain. Comfortable accommodations. Has everything you could need.

Awesome

  • 5 of 5

This is a great, historic house with heaps of space for our 2 families, located on an idyllic bay a short walk from town. We stayed a week and explored most of the island, as well as loving Hilo, which is much less touristy than the west coast. The owner was wonderful, attended to any concerns and arrived with the best papaya from her garden, bananas and muffins. She also suggested places to see that we enjoyed enormously. The house is not modern, so if you need a dishwasher you're out of luck. But we were here in July and did not need air conditioners, as there always seemed to be sea breeze, there are high ceilings and ceiling fans. We are so glad we found this place, met the owner and heard her stories of Hilo.

Owner's Response: Aloha to my new friends, I am so glad you had a nice time on Hawaii Island, and I so enjoyed the pictures you sent of the house from the airplane. We have all enjoyed seeing the roof in the progress of being painted. Thank you for such a nice review. I just returned home since I last saw you, visiting Portugal and Spain was special treat. Take care and my best to you and the family. Best to all, Pudding

This home is a large historic home with amazing views! Pudding, the owner, and her daughter, Keala, were absolutely great to work with in everything we needed. Close to old Hilo town (walking distance), amazing sunrises and sunsets. I will be back. Mahalo Nui Loan Pudding and Keala!

Historic Hilo Home - beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in Hilo and loved the house and the history Owner is lovely and very responsive and we had everything we needed. Because this is an historic house, do not expect all the modern conveniences such as a dishwasher. Who cares when the view and porch and paintings and sizes of the rooms are extraordinary. And yes walk to town and not on the highway but access at crosswalk and then up a little street to the street to town. About a 15 minute walk I highly recommend this house and seeing the water from every room and the porch was wonderful. Mahalo Keala
