Ringing in the New Year

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the lovely Bluff House for the 2011 New Year weekend. The views are "GORGE"OUS! It was clear skies every day -- views of sparkling waters, bald eagles, and snowy peaks really takes your breath away.

The house was built beautifully, and was quite comfortable/roomy (we were 2 couples). Heated tile was a definite nice touch. The water pressure is delightful. I want that kitchen faucet! And there are two flat screens with cable. So, we were able to watch the Huskies finish their season with a victory against the Cornhuskers! And the Hawks beat the Rams! Quite exciting football weekend!!

The house is close to town, which has a good amount of stores for any necessities. The is a grocery store has just about everything you'll need. And actually, I can't sleep without a fan...we went to the hardware store, and they had a fan/heater for under $15. I was pretty shocked I was able to find a fan in January in such a small town. They also have restaurants & bars if interested.

We really enjoyed our stay, and will most likely rent the house again in the future. (Probably in a warmer month though!) If you want outstanding views of the Columbia River, have the comforts of home (and then some), and just have a wonderfully, relaxing time...definitely check this place out!

Some Drawbacks:

- No blinds on the windows in the main room (yet -- builder plans to install some, if not already)...the sun can get a little bright (but hey, natural heating).

- We set off the fire alarm a couple times (don't broil anything in the oven & you'll be golden).

- Hot tub does not stay warm with the lid completely off (I suggest only opening it halfway, keeps the heat in!) -- builder mentioned plans of making a covered area in the future.

- It's near the road & train tracks (you can't hear the road at all -- but the train goes by frequently & you can hear it. BUT it does NOT whistle near the house).

Owner's Response: Thanks for the great input. I have installed some really nice blinds on the front windows to knock out the glare. I found out that when the temperature is in the 20's and 30's it is hard to keep the tub at 104 degrees but it does seem to make it up to 102 degrees. I will have the unit serivced before the next winter season since it should be able to maintain 104 with the lid off. It is not a problem staying up to temp when it is above 40 degrees. Would love to get rid of the train traffic but I think they are here to stay! We did put a lot of extra insulation in the houses to help combat rail noise. It helps to have the fan on while cooking on the Jennair downdraft cooktop and oven. I really enjoyed renting to this group - they left the place in great shape, recycled, and the best teams won!

This home is beautiful with high end finishes, gourmet, fully equipped kitchen and lots of windows. The bed was comfortable in the master and both bedrooms has lovely views and beautiful designer decor. The heated floors, heated towel rack, large bathtub in the master and the hot tub outside were some special features. It was nice to put your feet down on a warm heated floor in the middle of chilly Gorge winter weather. The living space was decorated very nicely and the raised den was a very nice reading space. Every detail of this home was well thought out and executed. Very high end inside and out. There is a great coffee place in town call Bahma, and we have eaten at a few of the local eateries. We had a great stay!

Owner's Response: I recommend Joe El Rio's, BIg River Grill and Cafe 130 aka CXXX. We have never been dissappointed with the food at any of these restaurants in Stevenson. Check out the Interpretive Center Museum - there is a picture of Jefferson Davis Nix, the first white settler that claimed the land back in the early 1800's. He was also the 2nd Sheriff of Skamania County and owned the first hotel in Stevenson.

Fabulous getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a long Thanksgiving weekend at the bluff house. To me, it is the best house on the property. Outstanding views!!! We awoke every morning to the gorgeous view of the Columbia River and the rugged Oregon landscape. The weather is very dynamic here. Sometimes it was sunny and clear and others the cliffs were shrouded in clouds and mist. Always stunning.

The property is vast. You can walk down to the river where there are a couple of secluded coves. There is also a large lawn near one of the coves -- perfect for frisbee, games, lounging, picnicking in the summertime. The surrounding area is great. There are numerous hikes within a short drive. Stevenson is close by for provisions and Hood River is a short drive for great food and other activities. Since we were there for Thanksgiving, we took the Polar Express with our toddler and had a great time!

The house is beautiful. Great kitchen with everything you need, 2 full baths, laundry, 2 ample bedrooms, living room with a fireplace and fantastic views, hot tub, etc. I definitely could have stayed for weeks and been perfectly happy. We will definitely be returning.

Very highly recommend! Treat yourself!

Owner's Response: Thanks Kim! We look forward to having you back. I just completed making solid mahogany adirondack chairs and tables for the patios. Great for kicking back outside when the weather is nicer.

Incredible River View Is Just The Beginning

  • 5 of 5

The entrance sneaks up on you, we came from Stevenson- heading East- when you see the brown campground sign, slow down and watch for the resort sign.

This property is fantastic. The lodge style cabin is roomy and has all of the amenities you could ask for and a few that surprised us. The covered patio was perfect, as it misted on us most of the day on Sunday, yet was still humid enough for shorts and a t-shirt. We sat and watched the river over breakfast. The hot tub is in the right spot for a beautiful view of the river. There is an outdoor shower with a private entrance to the master bedroom. I preferred the guest room as it has the river view. I also loved the river rock floor in the main bathroom shower. The master bath is very tastefully done in tile. Did I mention the outdoor shower and hot tub? There is a nice, private BBQ area behind the kitchen. Big windows everywhere, maximizing the views of the river from all over the house. There was a lot of thought put into this build.

The landscaping is terrific, it is a well maintained piece of property. The coves area on the river is very cool- short walk to get there. They are like tiny little private beaches- great for picnics or hanging out. Great spot to launch kayaks or rafts- I would think this would be a paradise for windsurfers to launch. Saturday was perfect weather, we hung out in the grassy area by the beach and relaxed.

We also got a peek inside the other 2 cabins. They look just as good as the one we stayed in- just a slightly different floor plan. They would be great for 2 families staying together. We may try one of them next time- we are sure to come back here.
