Casa Cielo, The Dwelling
Located on 40 acres of high-desert pinon juniper terrain on an open canyon ridge, this retreat vacation home floats above the Montezuma Valley. Off the beaten path, the only noise you might hear is the occasional contented mooing of grazing cattle or the yipping of skittish coyotes on graceful moonlit nights.
Your separate dwelling features two bedrooms ( 2 queens), 2 baths, and an open kitchen-living area. The large expanse of encased windows let you contemplate the geologic intersection between valley, mesa and mountains. A sleeper couch in the upper-level open den which looks over the canyon from your front door can accommodate two additional people. A second building on the premises can be used for an additional dormitory or retreat space.
Personal guided fly-fishing trips with a resident master-fisherman and therapeutic massage sessions are available upon request. Enjoy our private hiking/mountain bike riding trail for those daily cardio workouts by stepping out your back door. The separate 400 square foot meeting hall can be used for secluded creative endeavors such as writing, music, meditation, yoga practice or other quiet activities.
Need to escape your daily routines and hectic schedules? Get creative, get quiet, or get active with unparalleled, thrilling, year round, outdoor experiences in a locale that offers hiking, biking, skiing, 4-wheeling, fishing, canoeing and rafting as starters.
In a more northerly direction, only an hour and a half drive away, is the glamour and glitz of the transformed mining town and ski area of Telluride. This Victorian vintage-style village is world famous for its annual outdoor music, arts, culinary and wine events, and film festivals. A free gondola ride will put you on top of the world for views that will take your breath away...
Rich in First American cultures, we are within half a day’s drive to the pueblos of northern New Mexico and their festive feast days and unique artistic expressions in pottery, silver-smithing and upright loom weavings. Taos, Santa Fe, and Albuquerque bring the colorful architectural and art influences of the old country of Spain and its more modern expressions through its mingling with southwestern traditions and landscapes.

About Jeanne Cain
Leonard and Jeanne Cain were drawn to New Mexico and southwestern Colorado by the crystal clear skies, aspen and pine forests and rivers with their majestic red rock canyons. After working in rural health care clinics, they moved to the Cortez area where Leonard had a family medical practice. Mountain biking, backpacking, hiking, skiing, and fly fishing have been a few of their passions. Their many years of zen study are reflected in the open quiet spaces they have built and the sculptural ceramic and fiber arts Jeanne currently pursues. After 35 years of living in the southwest, the family is eager to share their enchantment in this retreat setting and in the surrounding area which is a rich cultural crossroads of native American life, cattle ranching, and outdoor splendors.
What makes this House unique

A most amazing place to stay
As soon as we walked in the door we were "spell-bound" by the beauty of the place. We had no idea it would be so spacious, containing everything we needed for our two night stay (wish it could have been many more). We enjoyed the peace & quiet of it, the morning & evening deer shows, the night darkness so we able to see so many stars & the beautiful sliver of a new "orange" moon right on the horizon. We hope to be able to return some day, and will certainly tell our friends about this lovely place.
Just what we needed: roomy, well-supplied, convenient, charming, and a herd of mule deer to watch.
Perfect setting and all the comforts of home
We had a lovey week at Casa Cielo. The house is very peaceful and quiet, with spectacular views of Sleeping Ute Mountain and Mesa Verde. The owner's house is next door, but it is situated so that you have plenty of privacy. We enjoyed the hiking trail on the property, as well as just sitting on the porch and admiring the beautiful sunsets. There is lots to do nearby, with Mesa Verde, Canyon of the Ancients, and the Anasazi Heritage Center within a short drive, as well as some excellent restaurants in Dolores and Cortez. Highly recommend!
Peaceful morning to night. We could not get enough of the view of the mountains. My idea of heaven. Home was comfortable with everything we needed.

Fabulous private setting with a killer view!
Casa Cielo was a wonderful experience for me on my friends. Loved the privacy and the view were spectacular. The house was great and was actually better than the listing pictures. Great location for Durango and Cortez, we took the Train from Durango to Silverton. Be sure to go first class, that was the best! Went to Mesa Verde but didn't allow enough time for the whole park. Allow a full day at least. Went to the east and southern rims of the Grand Canyon. Took a plane rides and saw spectacular sights. Allow a full day for that trip too. The house was the perfect location and setting. Would definitely go back again.
Peaceful, Relaxation With A Beautiful View!
We stayed 13 nights at Casa Cielo and enjoyed every minute! We didn't want to leave! Jeanne has created a peaceful haven for those seeking adventure as well as for weary travelers! Casa Cielo is a great place to relax, take in the scenery, watch the wildlife and walk the trail on the property. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need to prepare a meal. We especially enjoyed making soup in the CrockPot and grilling on the grill. On the days you want to explore, you will find the location is centrally located to Mesa Verde, Hovenweep, Cortez, Mancos, Four Corners, Durango, San Juan/Million Dollar Hwy, etc. We did all of these things and more! Drop in for lunch and cookies at the Absolute Bakery in Mancos!
Another reviewer mentioned the small TV. The TV is small - 18 inches to be exact. This was not a problem for us because there was so much more to do!
We are hoping to stay at Casa Cielo again in the future!
