Overview

About the property

3 Bdrms, Loft, 2.5 Bathrms, Large Rec Area in Basement, Mountain Views

The Bigfoot Cabin, an amazing getaway mountain retreat, is an authentic log cabin and all the amenities you could want as you experience the calm of mountain life. It is 3,000 square feet tucked away on 3 acres of pristine land next to the Santa Fe National Forest. From the moment you enter the retreat you will feel the seclusion and quiet you expect from the outside while getting the true log cabin ambiance inside. This includes interior wood beams on the ceiling and walls to the wood burning stove that create the atmosphere of a relaxing evening away from it all.

There are two parking areas, with the lower area supporting a staircase to easily enter the home. Once inside, the cabin enjoys individually controlled thermostats for heat in each room, ample natural light, a full kitchen with dishwasher, a full size washer and dryer, three bedrooms, 2.5 baths, and a loft. A newly remodeled extra large basement allows for a great entertainment area from which kids can play video games or watch movies, while parents can rest assured that it will remain quiet upstairs. The basement boasts 1,200 square feet, a half bathroom, a foosball table, and a ping pong table as well as extra room for sleeping bags on the carpeted floor should the need arise.

The master bedroom has a king size bed while the upstairs bedrooms have a double bed in one and a triple bunkbed in the other. There is also a loft with another single bed along with a pull out single trundle. In all, we have beds to sleep nine and two air mattresses to accommodate two additional adults with ease. For parties greater than 11, please contact us as there is plenty of space for sleeping bags.

The dining room has seating for eight and a living room with seating for five adults surrounding the wood burning stove, which is stocked with pre-chopped wood.

There are two large TVs, a gaming console, and two DVD players for the many movies available at the cabin. There are also numerous books and board games for families. While there is wifi, it can be on the slower side. For those that would like to stay in contact with others, a land line is available as cell service is very limited.

The secluded back patio has recently been completed to allow for outside grilling, a fire pit to stay warm and enjoy s’mores while star gazing and four tables with 16 chairs, allowing everyone to enjoy the crisp fresh pine scented air. The large front wooden deck, which hosts up to eight adults, has beautiful 180 degree views of unspoiled nature to enjoy a morning cup of coffee or an evening sunset on the treetops. In the winter months, enjoy the view of the snow-capped ridge and sledding on the hill in the front of the cabin (small sleds are provided).

As the size of the log cabin is quite large, there is ample room to have larger gatherings, from church groups to scouting events to family reunions. Our family absolutely loves the Bigfoot cabin and want to share the same experience with you and your family

Hiking is limitless, and the cabin is a perfect starting point for walks in the forest or strolls on the access road. The cabin is ten minutes from waterfalls and swimming at Jemez Falls and the East Fork Trail to the south. Fishing and hiking at Las Conchas is 10 minutes away to the north. Within 30 minutes you can visit Bandelier National Monument, the Valles Caldera (cross country skiing and snow shoeing in the winter) or Fenton Lake. Within 35 minutes you can be in downtown Los Alamos in the north, downhill skiing in Pajarito Ski Area or be in downtown Jemez Springs to the south.

The Village of Jemez Springs has great shopping flavored by local artists. There are great restaurants, including a real saloon where you can eat, drink and meet the locals. Also located in Jemez Springs is the famous hot springs and full service day spa where everyone on your trip can be pampered after a long day of enjoying the outdoors.

Enjoy the wonderful cabin with your friends and loved ones in this beautiful mountain setting. Have fun, take in the views, the air, and the peace and quiet.

We are willing to consider all events on our property. Please contact us regarding any specific limitations and fees related to events.

From mid-November through mid-March, please plan to utilize an AWD or 4X4 to get to the cabin. The roads to the property are plowed, but not during an active storm. After plowing, there is the potential for 2-3" packed snow and ice.

Beautiful Location!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, myself and our three teenaged boys visited Big Foot Cabin December 30th through January 3rd. The cabin was clean and comfortable. We loved the wood stove and the fire pit on the back patio. My husband and I went for early morning hikes and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. Everything was perfect! Jason and Leslie were wonderful, too! I left a few things behind and they were promptly mailed to me. We had a wonderful experience at Big Foot Cabin!

Depending on what your looking for

  • 3 of 5

Would of given 4 maybe 4.5 except it was a waste of my trip. NO FAULT OF OWNERS. I booked this nice secluded cabin in hopes of white wintery fun. Very cold n traces of ice but nothing. Kids very disappointed. As for the home itself, very spacious and accomadating with plenty of board games, Xbox and videos. No tv. Very nice views from backyard and balcony.

Few negatives: Upon arrival, it appeared as if restroom wasnt cleaned. Someone left a nice dirty brown stain on toilet seat and towels smelled dirty. Heating was a bit too good. Either heater or woodstove made it either too hot or too cold, no in between.

Last, well a group of 10 for 4 days can pile up a large amount of trash with nowhere to dispose of except on weds or sat. at a local dump for a fee of at least $30. OR, you can leave all full trash bags somewhere in house so animals dont get to it and pay a fee for cleaning crew to dispose of. Either way having to pile up trash and then pay to dispose of was a bit of a hassle.

But all in all after driving 13 hrs the house and area is nice.

Big Foot delivers!

  • 5 of 5

It's a lovely cabin high on a hillside with amazing views that are somewhat obscured by the beautiful trees. The approach road is rather rugged and you really do need a four-wheel or an all-wheel drive vehicle to get up the driveway for unloading and loading. There are two level parking spots opposite the driveway about halfway up for everyday use. We generally went on local hikes in the morning and then made day-trips to Los Alamos, Bandelier and Jemez Springs during our three days of exploring the area. Lots to do! Beautiful scenery! The kitchen is well equipped and there is plenty of firewood for the wood stove and plenty of good clean bedding and towels. The one thing lacking was comfortable seating in the living room area for more than about three possibly four people. Since we were a group of 6 grandmothers, we would have appreciated more seating options after our busy days. From the presentation on VRBO it seemed as if we would have access to all three floors but the bottom floor was locked. The owners responded very quickly to emails, texts and phone calls and were concerned about our comfort and well-being while at their cabin. Big Foot is very nicely maintained and an amazing property which we enjoyed the use of very much! Thank you, Jason and Leslie!

The house was great. The Kitchen had everything we needed. We really liked watching the stars at night here. The owners were very nice and helpful. I could get cell service from the back of the house with Verizon.

Peaceful, secluded

  • 5 of 5

We LOVED the outdoor space both the front porch and the back patio. The front porch was perfect for reading a book while watching the sunset. The back patio was perfect for dining al fresco, and sitting around the fire pit or stargazing. The kitchen had everything we needed. The washer and dryer were a real plus. The road getting into the property was pretty rough but we managed fine in a Toyota Camry. We drove into Jemez Springs one day to sit in the "Giggling Springs" which was very nice. Thank you for sharing your property!
