About Marge Wallace

John and Doris Landis started here after buying the family farm from John's father in the 70's. With the help of their son, John Jr. and several employees they have continued to maintain and grow their farm. In 1983 they began their mulch landscaping business that is now known as Landyshade Mulch. Their mulch business grew quickly and is known all over Lancaster County now.

Marge Wallace purchased this farmhouse in 1975

Why Marge Wallace chose Lancaster

John and Doris have raised their family in this house and have recently moved off the farm. With the recent remodeling of their home they have opened it up to you. Our home is located with easy access to the Lancaster County Amish attractions.

We are centrally located to enjoy Hershey Park and the delicious chocolate attractions of Hershey PA and minutes away from Lancaster City and the Amish tourist attractions. While here you can have a scheduled tour of our farm. Enjoy learning about the milking process, maybe get a peek at us milking, see the calves on our farm and maybe get a chance to see a baby being born. Learn some of the modern ways we are conserving our energy and resources.

Great house!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time at this house! Plenty of room for everyone, comfortable beds, and beautiful views. Marge was so sweet, helpful and informative, she even set us up with a golf cart guided tour of the farm! Will definitely rent again

What a beauty! Just Lovely. Very inviting

  • 5 of 5

I found the house to be fully functional. I brought food to make. The kitchen had everything I needed to cook. It was very clean and easy access to major roads.

The beds were very comfy and extra blankets and sheets were readily available in the closets.

The Gazebo was an added feature to sit and enjoy a beautiful view with no bugs to swat because it is screened in.

Refreshing Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our group rented the place to celebrate the 80th birthday of my mother-in-law and we certainly made the right choice in choosing the Landyshade! To start it off, innkeeper Marge was very proactive and responsive to our needs and questions about the property. The house itself is very spacious for a large group, lots of sunshine and very clean. The screened gazebo was also a great gathering place for the group - it's like having a picnic in a park. The owner, John Landis, was also gracious to give the group a tour of the farm which everyone enjoyed. Summing up our stay, our group is looking forward to staying at the Landyshade once more!

Owner's Response: Being an Innkeeper has been a very rewarding part of my life.Meeting your family I was able to learn about a different culture, and growing plants for beauty here on the farm,I didn't realize that perhaps someone else would utilize them as food! Thank you so much for showing me that!! I so enjoyed being a part of "Mom's" 80th birthday! It was so lovely of all of you to come together for her.Very sweet lady. Looking forward to seeing all of you again. Sincerely, Marge

Landyshade Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful quilting retreat at Landyshade Farm House. The house was immaculate and had such a warm and welcoming feel about it. We met the innkeeper and also the owner and they were both delightful. They informed us of the history of the 1801 house which made it ever more special.

The grounds around the house are filled with all kinds of flowers, and the orchard and cornfield only added to the ambience. The large gazebo was a great place to gather to soak in the atmosphere and to have meals together.

We are definitely coming back!

Conveniently located

  • 3 of 5

Marge and Mr. Landis were very kind and we greatly appreciate their hospitality. Mr. Landis generously gave us a tour of what is clearly a large factory farm. We had been lead to believe this was a quaint and charming farm nestled in the heart of Amish country, however, that was not the case. We were told by Marge prior to booking to look forward to the possibility of seeing a calf being born. However, it seemed that may have been misleading, as once we inquired when there, we were told that many people inquire but it was not possible.

The house itself was recently remodeled, however, was only superficially cleaned when we arrived and had obvious signs it was in desperate need of a deep clean especially in the area rugs. The statement that the kitchen is fully stocked with pots and pans, while true, is also misleading, as they were in such bad shape I doubt college students would use them to cook with on a shoe-string-budget. We were specifically forbidden from using any laundry detergent and it seems none of the linens or towels have seen proper laundry in ages. The system installed "purewash" doesn't seem to do a great job as every towel and sheet in the house had a dingy look and many smelled like a sour sponge. These are of course all things that can be easily remedied, but made for a less than spectacular stay.

We rented the house because it had enough room for our family and was relatively close to the sights we wanted to see and in that respect we had a great time. The screened in gazebo was very pleasant to eat in nightly and the weather was beautiful during our stay. If we find ourselves vacationing again in Lancaster we'll be sure to check other listings before considering staying here again.

Large Family Gathering

  • 5 of 5

The house was a wonderful place to stay! In our group, there were 10 adults and two toddlers. There was enough space for everyone. We enjoyed the tour of the dairy farm and Marge was especially sweet. Make sure that if you stay here, you catch the sunset from the front porch each evening!!
