Our spacious lodge is a unique building in Southwestern/Deco architectural style. There is a beautiful walk along Kootenay Lake from our lodge to nearby Fletcher Falls. You will enjoy the world's longest free ferry ride to an artisan village and the Ashram across the lake. The historic arts town of Nelson, noted for diversity of shops and a rich artistic presence is 45 minutes away.
My wife and I celebrated our 50th anniversary here with the whole family. it was perfect in every way as there was plenty of space for us all to enjoy ourselves and still have lots of privacy. Dayspring has a gorgeous location and is beautifully designed. We especially enjoyed the walks along the lake to the waterfall and the nearby hotsprings. Kaslo is a real treasure!
David and Jacqueline were there to greet our group of ten hikers to their wonderful lodge on the banks of Kootenay Lake. After a tour of the spacious rooms overlooking the lake we settled in and set about preparing dinner in the well-appointed kitchen. Jacqueline acted as our guide for this our first foray into the Kootenay. She planned each day taking us to five different mountain ranges and starting with Idaho Peak which gave us a wonderful all encompassing vista of our surroundings. The grand finale was Kootenay Glacier Park. Our last day took in the Kootenay Jazz Festival, Ainsworth Hot Springs and the new zip-line. Four wheel drive vehicle are required to access the alpine, expect long but exciting scenic drives to the trail heads. We took home our memories of the rugged mountain peaks, glaciers, deep blue lakes, alpine meadows full of flowers and appreciation for our hostess with the mostest!
We have just returned home from what has become our annual week at Dayspring, and once again it was a wonderful holiday - we just love the unspoiled surroundings! This year we had use of the tea house which was a perfect peaceful spot. Jaqueline and David have worked hard, and their improvements ( fire pit, new kitchen counters etc) are great. Dayspring is ideal for large families to gather, there is plenty of space indoors for games, puzzles etc, as well as outdoor spaces for relaxing. The deck and most of the bedrooms have stunning views. Everything we needed was there, as well as advice on day trips or outings. We have some favorited spots, like Fletcher Falls which are fun for kids and adults. Will be happy to go back again!
The first discussions with Jacqueline and David were easy and very responsive. We were arranging a family get-together with eleven people (including 6 kids). Jacqueline was very accommodating. To be honest, we were a little skeptical to have the owners stay on the property with us. We have rented many times, but this arrangement was different. It turned out to be better than we could imagine! They met us on arrival, so no need to worry about finding keys. They kept to themselves, however, if we had any concerns or questions, they were never put out to answer. Jacqueline took the kids on a little hike one morning, and lent some hiking boots to my son, who didn't have adequate footwear! They also built us a fire pit, so the kids could enjoy roasting marshmallows in the evenings! Upon arrival, they gave us a list of recommendations for entertainment, restaurants in Kaslo, great hiking trails, and other activities! I can't say enough about their warm and friendly hospitality. The house is beautiful inside and out. There was lots of cooking ware, sundry items, towels. One thing I would recommend is providing a baking sheet, but that's being picky. All the rooms were very clean and the beds were really comfortable. The view of the lake is breath-taking! I miss waking up to my coffee on the deck. The only disappointing part of our vacation was that the lake in July was too cold to swim in. So we had to drive a little ways to a smaller lake if the kids wanted to swim. But of course, that is no reflection on Dayspring Lodge! I would highly recommend staying here for a family vacation- such a beautiful place to stay, and lots of activities to do near Kaslo!! Some of the activities we did were: Lardeau River Rafting Adventures, Cody Caves, and Ainsworth Hot Springs. Buddy's Pizza in Kaslo was delicious!
Our group of 7 women thoroughly enjoyed staying here. The view was stunning and the rooms spacious. There was easy access to hiking areas, golf, hot springs, restaurants and shopping. What more could we want! This is the ideal place for larger groups or families.
My gal pals and I had the most wonderful time in the Kaslo area; playing a big part in the fun was our stay at Dayspring Lodge. There were seven of us and this spacious lodge allowed us to spread out and enjoy! I live in hotter-than-a-pistol California and truly enjoyed the day hikes, gorgeous lake, fabulous gardens....all the "green." Jacqueline and her husband were wonderful hosts and loaded with local knowledge of where to go and what to do. I highly recommend the Dayspring Lodge.
Dayspring Lodge in Kaslo BC could not have been a more perfect place for a group of 7 hikers from BC and California. The "Stewed Hens" spent 6 nights there in June, 2016. The house is very spacious with 6 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, a huge well stocked kitchen, laundry room, massive living room with a wood burning fireplace....and lots of wood. The decks are a great place to start your day with coffee in the sun and then enjoy Happy Hour when you return from your hike. The views of Kootenay Lake and the Purcell Mountains from the large dining table and the decks were spectacular. Our hostess Jacqueline was fabulous. She welcomed us with open arms and made many suggestions of where to hike, good places to eat and what was going on in town, even guided us along a pretty hike through some private property to a waterfall and the lake. Jacqueline also was extremely accommodating when we needed, spices or hot sauce or anything we didn't bring along with us. Her husband offered to chop wood for us as well, but we were lucky to have our own "lumber jack, or should I say Jill with us. We were also invited to use their private "tea house" at the water's edge for a glass of 🍷at the end of the day. This place is a wonderful spot for hikers, golfers or any large group. Because it sleeps 14, it would be great for a family reunion or a small wedding. The gardens are beautiful as well. We enjoyed it so much we may go back next year!!!
Kaslo is a haven for small business entrepreneurs and artisans whose works are displayed in shops and galleries throughout the village. The storefronts lining Front Street date back to the early 1900s and the unique historic architecture of the period has been painstakingly preserved or restored.
Kaslo is also home to a number of events and festivals throughout the year, including the famous Kaslo Jazz Summer Music Festival, named by USA Today as one of the “10 greatest places to get in tune, and be outdoors!”
A myriad of recreational opportunities sustains locals and draws visitors to the Kaslo area year round: A short distance from town you will discover many hiking trails, hot springs, beaches and other small villages, each unique in its own way.
Kaslo´s most attractive feature will always be the pristine beauty of its natural surroundings. The nicest thing about the Kootenays is that the area is always green; clouds form in fantastic configurations, and, if you are lucky, you will see a triple rainbow.
