About Tom Sullivan
We are family of 5 who live in the Colorado mountains and love escaping to Caye Caulker for some warmth, sun and ocean during the winter months. We have been in the lodging business since the early 1990s owning and operating the Minturn Inn in Minturn Colorado for 10 years. Now we run Minturn rentals which specializes in vacation rentals in the Vail area. We pride ourselves in providing quality lodging at affordable prices.
Tom Sullivan purchased this House in 2010
Why Tom Sullivan chose Belize District
We started to visit Caye Caulker about 9 years ago and fell in love with the island, its people and the easy way of life. The fact that there are no cars and bikes are the primary mode of transport had a large appeal to us. First we bought the lot and then we took the plunge and decided to build a home. One short coming of the island for our family was that there was no pool for our kids to swim in so we added one.

Great place, sleepy beach town in Caye Caulker
Thanks for the wonderful stay. We stayed at the Yellow cottage on Caye Caulker in late March 2018. It was a couple of blocks from the Weezies Hotel area closer to the beach. While not completely ideal, it was a great place to stay. The cottage was cute, like a log cabin with the cool loft up top. No one stayed in the loft area because there were only 3 of us, but it would be a great place for kids to sleep. The kitchen was adequately equipped and serviced out need. This location was a good distance from the city center, so we rented bikes at $5/day which is definitely the way to go. It was really convenient to take the bikes everywhere. We loved our stay and would consider returning if we came back to the island.
Weezie's Yellow Cottage
This is a wonderful cottage on the island of Caye Caulker. The staff was most friendly and helpful and made sure our comfort was their main concern. Kiki and Lionel and many others we cannot remember names of, got us bicycles, gave tour information, set us up with taxi's, etc. The cottage had everything we needed. They provided a local cell phone with the numbers of Max, the taxi driver, and Kiki at the front desk. Very good idea! Max saw to it that we got to a place to eat the first night we arrived and then to the grocery store so we could stock up on some food. We enjoyed sitting on our front porch in the morning, drinking coffee, and watching the kids go to school. The locals are very friendly and oftentimes said hi as we passed them. My only advice to others looking at this cottage - it can sleep 6 people, but there is only 1 bathroom. Could pose some problems for a large group. We had 3 in our group and it worked out fine. I would highly recommend Weezie's as they are on the South side of the island where it is quieter and away from the main street bustle. The town is totally walkable - or bikeable.
Perfect family rental.
We loved this island and this house was perfect for our stay. The neighborhood was quiet and the house had everything we needed. Rent a golf cart, eat at Terry's and enjoy this slice of heaven. Our family of 4 (children = boys 8 &9) thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and plan to return!
Great stay at Weezie's
I stayed at Weezie's yellow cabin as a group of 3 young women. We had a fantastic time, and the accommodations were perfect. We each had our own bedroom area (2 bedrooms and the loft, which has a steep ascent and takes a little more effort to air condition but is very do-able) in addition to the nice common space. Weezie's had everything we needed. We loved having the pool to swim in after a day of snorkeling or hanging out at the dock. Speaking of which, Caye Caulker does not really have much in terms of traditional beaches, but Weezie's hotel has a nice, large dock that's perfect for relaxing and then taking a swim in the ocean. The service was also excellent from the on-site manager, who accommodated our every need. The cabin was in perfect working order. We rented bikes from the hotel, which was a great choice. We enjoyed the location as being a bit away from the more heavily trafficked part of the Caye and wonderfully relaxing. Overall, we had a great stay, and I'd recommend Weezie's to my friends. Hopefully we can return!
A REALLY great place on a great island.
We just got back from Caye Caulker where we stayed in Tom's yellow house. The place is amazingly comfortable. More like home than almost anyplace we've rented in over 20 years of traveling. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, glassware and utensils. The frig and stove were almost new. The beds were very comfortable. The a/c worked perfectly. (Most places on the island don't have a/c). And a pool is almost unheard of on Caye Caulker.
The street is quiet and set back from the crowded part of town, yet only 4 or 5 minutes on a bike. So if you are one of those night-crawler, bar loving, rock music at 3am digging tourists, you may want to look elsewhere.
Tom was very easy to deal with. His property manager (Bobbi) lives on the island and was a HUGE help finding the best places to grocery shop and eat out. She even set up a car to meet us at the airport to drive us to the ferry, then met us at the dock and took us to the house. It really couldn't have been easier.
One last thing, if you don't need such a large home, ask about the purple house. It's great.
Highly Recommend Weezie's Cabin
My husband & I took our 4 children with us to Caye Caulker and Weezie's was a perfect fit for our family. There are two bedrooms and a loft that has 2 single beds. Our sons slept up in the loft and while the ladder is steep to get up there, my husband and I didn't have any trouble climbing up or down it.
It was nice having a full kitchen and large open dining area/living room. We ended up buying groceries and making breakfast & lunch every day at home and eating out at a local restaurant for dinner. We were happy to see the previous guests had left some spices and olive oil and we ended up adding to that spice collection as well as leaving coffee filters, too. The kitchen also has a water dispenser and when we ran out of water, the island caretaker, Bobbi, was quick to drop off another one. The kitchen is fully stocked with bowls, pots & pans, wine glasses, drinking glasses, plates, silverware, cooking utensils, ice cube trays, etc.
The beds all have sheets and light blankets and each room has a set of bath towels to use. There were a few beach towels in the closets, but we brought our own so used ours. The home also has interior model air conditioning units that work very well to cool the home down in a hurry. The only area that didn’t have air conditioning was the loft, but our sons didn’t seem to mind that it was a little warmer up there than the rest of the house. The home also has WiFi and a TV with numerous channels.
The best thing we enjoyed about Weezie’s was the pool and deck that surrounds it. We spent many hours swimming and because we knew it had a pool before we arrived, we brought along several floaties and blow up balls. Instead of packing them we decided to leave these behind so the next guests could enjoy them as well.
Weezie’s is located south of the “downtown” area and just north of the airstrip. It is in a quiet neighborhood and the property is patrolled by security. We have been to Caye Caulker before and have never experienced any trouble but it was nice have this extra peace of mind. The security guard would come around in early evening and walk around the yard and wave to us before leaving.
I would highly recommend Weezie's Cabin, especially if you are traveling with friends or family. If just a couple, I would recommend the purple cabin also listed on this site. Tom and Bobbi were great to work with and extremely hassle free ...exactly how a vacation should be!
The second largest reef in the world is just off the shores of Caye Caulker. It offer fantastic opportunities for snorkeling and diving. There is also kite surfing, wind surfing and fishing opportunities.
