Gorgeous Retreat on Organic Coffee Farm!

Bedrooms 2
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

Are you looking for a unique Hawaiian experience, away from the hustle and bustle of the hotels and crowds?

Are you interested in seeing how an organic coffee farm works?

Our 42 acre farm is quiet and serene, yet just miles from beautiful beaches and snorkeling. The 2 bedroom guest house is fully furnished, and has a large lanai overlooking the coffee fields with an incredible view of the ocean.

Less than 30 miles from town, you can experience living off the grid, as we generate all our own power from the sun and generator, and catch all our water. We have all the water and power we need, but none to waste.

Please note: A 4 wheel drive vehicle is needed to access this property. It's not that it is a bad road, in fact it almost looks like a steep airstrip. And that is the problem. There are a few spots we cannot get the grass to grow and 2 wheel drive vehicles tear the road up.

This was such a wonderful place to stay - calm, spacious, relaxing, clean. The house was great and had all the comforts (and more) necessary from hot water on demand to comfy beds. The hosts are super nice and generous. The coffee is delectable. The views are wonderful. The dogs are super friendly. We stayed here for a week and found it a great place to be. Highly recommend and we hope to come back!

Excellent condo

  • 5 of 5

it is our second stay in this condo and just like the first time, it was amazing. We felt very welcome by Dawn and Robert and their dogs are so nice!

The condo in itself is very nice, well kept and very comfortable whether you have a family or you are a couple.

The view is fantastic and it is so quiet.

The position of the condo on the island is very good as you have easy access to all the touristy things to do and also some very nice snorkelling spot that you don't get as easily to the North of Kona.

We are looking forward to coming back!

Amazing view and amazing experience

  • 5 of 5

Myself, my husband and my sister and her husband shared this spacious cottage for 3 nights. We loved the peacefulness, the beauty of the coffee trees and ocean view and the well furnished kitchen and outdoor dining. Dawn and Robert gave us a fascinating tour of their coffee farm complete with freshly brewed coffee and even tea made from the coffee tree leaves! It is a great place to take off for day trips to the volcano park and many different beaches. A wonderful trip I would highly recommend this place. The all wheel drive vehicle we rented handled the road well but I would recommend that someone also know how to drive it on a steep hill! And I also can recommend Mi's Italian Restaurant that is not too far away.

My only regret? Leaving.

Reviews that have come before mine have really nailed it. Words like "paradise" and "heaven" are the first words that come to mind. Beautiful views, relaxing solitude, and fantastic hosts made this a vacation to remember. And yes, you MUST have a four wheel drive vehicle, no matter what your doubts might be. Dawn and Robert, the owners, were outstanding--great to talk to, very helpful with things to do on the island, and even walked us through the process of making the AMAZING coffee they produce there. Can't recommend enough!

We just finished our second stay the Kona Rainforest Coffee Farm guest house and it really is a slice of heaven. Nestled on a steep slope over a half mile up the mountain (need a 4WD vehicle to get there), it is secluded and offers a beautiful view. The guest house has all the amenities that we needed (gas grill, wireless internet, stove, fridge, cooking utensils), and all that you need to make a great cup of coffee. Great beaches and snorkeling are a short drive away and one can get to Kona in 45-60 minutes or to Hawaii Volcanoes park in about 75 minutes. Secluded enough to avoid the touristy areas around Kona, but close enough to do all the great things that the Bis Island has to offer. Great for people who like a place with a great view to cook themselves some great meals. Also, there are two very sweet dogs there who love a visit, if you allow them. Robert and Dawn are warm, gracious hosts and really interesting to talk with. Can't wait until our next visit.

A wonderful vacation in Hawaii

  • 5 of 5

We just finished a one month stay at the Kona Rain Forest Coffee Farm guest house and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Robert and Dawn operate a working Organic Coffee Farm while at the same time act as friendly and obliging hosts to those who stay at the guest house on the farm. The beautiful guest house sits high on the farm property and has a great view of the ocean in the distance and the ever changing Kona sunsets. It is even more open and spacious than the pictures show. The covered Lanai allows you to sit in the morning sun with your cup of fabulous Rain Forest Kona coffee. Dawn showed us how to properly brew a French Press of their coffee and it tasted far better than any of our previous attempts at drip perking that we were used to. They supply beach mats and chairs for your trips to any of the many beaches that are on the Kona side of the Island. You can pack your own lunch and iced water and carry it all to the beach in the cooler supplied. Robert gave us a tour of the farm and explained the intricacies of the operation including the roasting process. The tour was fascinating and we were also able to see the pickers in operation as they selected the “cherries” from the trees surrounding the guest house. We also had friendly daily visitors to our lanai as Jackson and Launa, the resident Jack Russell Terriers came around to sit and have a rest and see if we had any doggie treats that day. Be sure to visit the volcano Kilauea, it’s well worth the trip to the Park where it’s located and the friendly Park Guides will show you where the interesting sites are located. On your drive to the volcano be sure to stop at Punaluu Bakery on highway 11, I’ll bet you will find it impossible to leave there without purchasing some of their tasty treats! Be sure also to visit Up Country Bakery in the Captain Cook area and try some of their great bagels or have a brunch or lunch from the extensive menu, it’s funky hippie feeling place with very friendly staff. Hawaii is a beautiful Island to visit and we would be happy to visit there again, especially if we could stay at the Kona Rain Forest Guest House and once more enjoy a relaxing visit.
