About the property

“Le Mas des Agapanthes”, built in the XIX century in local typical stones and renovated in 2007, is a lovely house situated 15 minutes walk from the historic perched village of GORDES, village classified as 'One of the Most Beautiful Villages in France'. There is an incredible panoramic view over the Luberon valley with a 180 degree opening on the flatland.

The garden is beautifully kept, with lawn and pool area, flower beds and olive trees. The garden is about 700 square meters (7500 sq ft). The swimming pool is 10 by 5 meters (ft) with a saltwater system.

The interior of our family house is furnished with a mix of antiques and contemporary furniture.

Ground floor: a small but fully equipped kitchen opening onto a lovely dining room that can easily accommodate 8 people; a summer living room with a big stone wood-burning fireplace and sliding patio doors giving onto the terrace; the master bedroom with a queen-size bed (160 x 200cm) and en-suite bathroom with shower and WC.

First floor: from the kitchen you access the first floor via an 18th century-old stone staircase taking you to the mezzanine /TV room. There is also one large bedroom with 2 twin beds (90 x 200 cm), a smaller bedroom with 2 twin beds (90 x 200cm, which can be converted into one large double bed), a bathroom with tub and sink and a separate WC. The back of the house is connected to a beautiful neighboring house.

The house comfortably sleeps six people. Practical details: appliances include a glass-ceramic stove top; built-in oven; dishwasher; refrigerator with freezer compartment; microwave oven; washing machine and dryer; two hot water tanks; hair dryers; a radio and CD player; TV with DVD player; ADSL, Wi-Fi and telephone via internet. Bed linens and towels, including pool towels, are provided.

There are 6 sun beds with cushions as well as one teak garden table with six teak chairs, sunshade and a charcoal barbecue.

Finally a renter’s manual provides information you might need regarding the house and there is a guestbook in which previous tenants have left comments about their stay.

Please note that for safety reasons, we recommend the rental of our house to families with children over 8 years old.

About Evelyne Schutz

My brother and I are the owners of this charming house which we inherited from our father in 2007. Having both busy professional schedules and lots of travelling, we like to spend some times with our family in the Luberon, visiting the charming villages in this area, the antique market in Isle-sur-la-Sorgue or just relaxing in our charming house and enjoying the fantastic panoramic view on the Luberon.

What makes this house unique

The house is situated in a very quiet area, but very close to Gordes and Le Coustellet where you will find everything you need to spend a wonderful time in our house (painting galleries, market, bakery, grocery, supermarket, bars and restaurants...)

Nearly perfect

Overall we had a good experience.

The owner was prompt in responding and helpful in our email exchanges. Virginie was very warm and helpful at check in. The property is very well located - 10-15 mins from the village - offers stunning views, and is very comfortable. The garden is very well designed and maintained. Bedrooms are all sizeable and comfortable. The kitchen is pretty small but is very well equipped.

Only issue is noise. During our second week, the neighbouring property hosted 2-3 Spanish families who made quite a bit of noise, sometimes until 2 o'clock in the morning. We had not appreciated how close the other property was when we booked it. Clearly there is a case of bad luck here but potential guests should be aware of this risk.

I don't typically write reviews.

This house was one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed. From the moment I messaged Evelyne, everything was seamless. We were introduced to Virginie, who helps manage the rentals and took incredible care of us. Virginie walked us through the welcome book which was unbelievably detailed. Times and Locations of markets, restaurants with reviews---it was like our own personal TripAdvisor.

The house was a perfect blend of historic and modern. Classic finishes with a contemporary touch. We felt like we stepped back in time, but in a familiar, story-book kind of way.

Unbeknownst to us before visiting, Gordes is probably the coolest town in the region. Carved into a hillside (as most of the Luberon villages are), everyday felt like we were walking through a set of game of thrones.

The restaurants were delicious. The vegetables were insane. The wine was inexpensive and fit for a king!

Thank you again to Virginie and Evelyne for a great experience!

Spectacular! 6 stars!

  • 5 of 5

We were two couples in their 60's and a young adult in his 20's. The house and setting exceeded our very high expectations in all regards. A member of our party summed up our experience over a glass of wine in front of our nightly dinner in front of the fireplace: "Sublime." After traveling around the Luberon for the week visiting other villages and taking hikes, we did not find a view that exceeded the one from the front of this house. The house itself is warm, inviting, charming, quiet and very functional. We cooked dinner every night so we could linger over 3 hour dinners in front of the fire. Each morning, four of us would walk into Grodes, a 15 minute beautiful walk if you take the shortcut which takes you to the base of Gordes and up winding, cobbled, narrow streets. Gordes itself was a delight. Two bakeries, a small supermarket, a cafe for our morning coffee with some of the residents of Gordes, some nice shops and stunning views. Again, after visiting other beautiful villages in the Luberon, we too feel that Gordes is the most beautiful. This house was a great home base for visiting the surrounding area. Places were closer than we thought they'd be. However, the place and setting were so beautiful there were days where people chose to stay put with the morning and afternoon walk into Gordes being the only outing. I think we were also fortunate that it was late season so the tourist traffic was not intense. We will return!

A beautiful place

  • 5 of 5

After many years of renting vacation houses, we have developed what some might (with justification) call a very picky set of criteria. This gorgeous place meets them all. Walking distance (~15 minutes) from Gordes, one of the most gorgeous villages in France. A view that sometimes delayed our departure in the morning as we just stood captivated, gazing out over the countryside below. A beautiful pool. A house built of local stone, with simple, tasteful furnishings.

We used this house as a home base for exploring the Luberon. It is perhaps 20 minutes from half a dozen gorgeous medieval towns, all with their weekly markets. We would visit one in the morning, and try to be back by midafternoon to just enjoy the house, to swim, to play boules, and sip a glass of rose while watching the shadows creep over the valley.

Our one longer trip was to the Fort de Buoux - if you like ancient history, unimproved ruins, cliffs, and steep trails, this is for you!

If you are a runner, take a look at some of the narrow lanes nearby, some open to vehicles, others only to foot traffic (and very rough). We cobbled together more than one morning run that served the delightful dual purpose of exercise and adventure.

I highly recommend leaving the car at the house and walking to Gordes, because the village is very, very popular in the summer. The traffic is heavy and parking a challenge.

Virginie was very responsive to any needs we had. We loved this house.

A beautifully positioned home with a stunning view

  • 5 of 5

We chose the property as we wanted a quiet setting, beautiful view, big pool and a walk-able distance from a village. It scored 5 stars on all 4! The house itself was clean, well appointed and like a home. The stairs up to the second floor are rustic - no problem for us but if you are a bit shaky on your feet you'll have to sleep down stairs - which isn't a problem. Would recommend to anyone.
