Why Craig Shoemaker chose Keuka Lake

Our family has been coming to Keuka Lake for generations. This cottage was owned by our great-grandparents, and there is still a lot of other family in the area. We all grew up coming here and fell in love with Keuka Lake at an early age. It is a wonderful place for family and we have passed that love of the lake on to our later generations. The beauty of the lake and the surrounding area is unbeatable. There are activities for all ages - from swimming, fishing, skiing, and sailing to photography, crafts, visiting wineries, and meeting new people.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Hi Craig, just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay at your family's cottage. I absolutely loved the cottage - it's quintessential vintage Keuka! How lucky you are to have it. Of course I wandered over to the neighbor's property that is not well maintained and dreamed about how I could make it my own vintage Keuka cottage. Yes, I would love to have my own place at the lake someday - short of that, I hope to be able to rent a place for the season. Yours would be ideal. But that's a few years down the road. I looked on the calendar on your VRBO site and saw that the cottage is rented through the rest of the summer. I don't have a lot of vacation left but if you end up with a couple of days without a renter, let me know.

Perfect lakeside cottage retreat

  • 5 of 5

Myself, my husband and our English Bulldog Bode loved our stay at this authenticate 1930's lakeside cottage. The weather was perfect all week which made it extra nice. The owner Craig was extremely nice to talk to. We had one minor cliche with the fridge on day one but Craig had it remedied immediately. The cottage is very comfortable, we especially liked all of the artwork throughout the house. The porch was a perfect spot to sit inside and look out at the lake, but our favorite spot was sitting in the Adirondack chairs out on the deck. There is so much to do around Keuka Lake. We went to the local wineries/vineyards which are all so beautiful. Rented a boat for the day at Keuka Boat Rentals, Jed was the nicest guy. Went out to dinner at several local restaurants, but our favorites were the Union Block Italian Bistro in Hammondsport, and Pleasant Valley Inn. One day we ventured over to Watkins Glenn where we went horse back riding at The Painted Bar Stables. Then headed to Watkins Glenn State Park to check out the gorge and waterfalls. Bring comfy shoes that you do not mind getting a little wet. It was a 2 mile walk through the gorge area and it was absolutely gorgeous. We had a wonderful time. Thank you Craig!

Relaxing cottage getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful stay at this serene, cozy cabin right on the lake. The house was well stocked and it seemed all appliances/amenities accounted for. There's plenty of room/sleeping quarters, with a large living room and beautiful enclosed porch. The backyard space was great for playing with the dog and the dock is perfect for sunrise and sunset. I loved that the cabin feels private because of its location on a little alcove of the lake, but wasn't far from great restaurants and the wineries. Wifi worked great whenever I needed it, though this place was perfect for letting yourself "unplug" so I ignored my phone most of the stay. Cabin has a great rustic feel, with a renovated bath and other updates. Very clean and well maintained. This place would be perfect for families and small groups looking to enjoy all that Keuka has to offer. My only regret is that I didn't stay longer!

Beautiful, comfortable, and peaceful!

  • 5 of 5

Sweet place, both historic AND updated. Antique pieces here and there mixed with new, and the most wonderfully furnished glassed-in porch facing the lake...the views were spectacular! One night we watched the Milky Way from the very roomy dock, as well. All the seating is comfortable, nice-looking, and either quite new or newly upholstered. The grassy lawn was plenty spacious for games, but the shore is maybe a 30' walk from the cottage front of both worlds. There is a fire pit area for the occasional bonfire and s'mores. Nice chairs and tables on the dock for sitting out over the water to read, talk, or just watch the lake, or the fabulous sunsets!!

There were a number wonderful restaurants within an easy drive, but the cozy kitchen was fully stocked with everything to making cooking and cleaning up a pleasure.

I can't say enough to describe the perfection of this place...Marilena Point is the choicest location on Keuka Lake, hands down...and this cottage a gem unto itself.

I had rented this cottage for 8 days, i only stayed for 2 days due to a medical emergency. The two days i stayed were awesome. The description was spot on and the cottage was very clean. The tv and internet service were excellent. Would stay again for sure.

It couldn't have been better.

Thank you so very much for our stay at your lovely cottege on Keuka Lake. It was such a treat. We went swimming and sat in the sun. We had a nice lunch with a few memberes of our family to just get away from the large event going on on the other side of the lake for my brothers memorial. My 13 year old daughter wished she could have a place to stay like yours. The cottege is the real deal - comfortable, cosy, clean, loved, not fussy but easy to live in reminding us of years ago. Perfect. Thank you. Jessica

If Keuka Lake is the Jewel of the Finger Lakes, our cottage on Marilena Point is the choicest of gems you'll find right on the water!

At first glance, you will no doubt understand why this charming and historic property has been cherished by the Shoemaker family since its construction in 1935. At second glance, when you walk through the back door, you will fall in love! Amidst the 30's vintage architectural features and antique pieces of our cozy cottage, you will also discover all the necessary updates and comforts for modern-day living...baseboard heating, ceiling fans, thermal windows; stainless steel appliances, renovated main bathroom, new/renewed comfortable furniture throughout; well-maintained outdoor landscaping; sturdy and comfortable outdoor seating, whether on the covered side porch, wide open lawn, or over the water on our permanent dock. To top it off, there is a large fire pit area at the water's edge for cozy evenings under the stars, while roasting marshmallows and having a chat.

The "water's edge" is only 30 feet from the front door, with a very gentle slope into the water...just perfect for watching small children play in the shallows, sliding in your kayak and canoe, or launching your family's boat.

The Finger Lakes region (with Keuka Lake at its heart) has long been renowned for its excellent wines, the production of which was first recorded in 1829, when The Reverend William Bostwick of Hammondsport planted Vitis labrusca shoots in the Episcopal rectory's garden...though commercial viticulture officially began in 1862, when the Hammondsport and Pleasant Valley Wine Companies were founded. The Finger Lakes of New York is now the largest and most celebrated wine producing region in the Eastern United States. At this point in time, there are over 100 wineries in the Keuka Lake area alone, most of which are open daily, year round for both tastings and Signature Events.

It goes without saying that Keuka Lake itself is an outdoor "recreation center," whether for boating, water skiing, jet skiing, tubing, swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, canoeing, fishing, snorkeling, or numerous other lake-based activities...its gorgeous clean, clear, sparkling water is a draw without equal!

Within a short driving distance from the cottage is the village of Hammondsport to the South (voted "Coolest Small Town in America"), Penn Yan to the North, and Watkins Glen to the East. Keuka Lake State Park, Letchfield State Park, and Finger Lakes National Forest are all within a 60 mile radius of 9299 Spruce Road...breathtaking scenery, waterfalls, hiking, picnicking, and camping at your fingertips!

Within a 20 mile radius are the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum, Champlin Beach, Depot Park, Finger Lakes Boating Museum, Watkins Glen State Park, Birdseye Hollow State Forest, Sugar Hill State Forest, and a large number of award-winning wineries including Dr. Konstantin Frank Wine Cellars, Heron Hill Winery, Rooster Hill Vineyards, and Weis Vineyards.

So much to see, so much to do. Come on in, get comfortable, put your feet up, relax and stay awhile! The Shoemakers are very glad to have you...Cheers!!
