About Janet Smith

My husband & I moved here in 1989 from Kauai, HI. A builder by trade, he wanted to build something non traditional. The cabin was constructed from logs on the property. All furniture, the picnic table, and cabinets were made by us from logs off the property and milled on my husband's sawmill. I was the sander/painter and made curtains & pillows. A long but fulfilling project.

Janet Smith purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Janet Smith chose Flathead Lake

Having met in Aspen we moved to HI. in 1971. After nearly 20 yrs farming on Kauai we decided we needed a change. We looked at Colorado, but it was getting too busy. After a drive through this area, it seemed perfect, less hectic and beautiful.

What makes this cabin unique

The most common remarks we get from guests are how quiet and peaceful their stay is, how comfortable and cozy our cabin is, and how much they enjoy watching the wildlife everyday.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Heaven is a hard place to get to, you have to be on the right path and make all the right moves. Bigfork Stage Cabins is a little bit of heaven right here on earth. It too was hard to find, but well worth the trip. We were going to stay one night, but took extra time off work to visit with the deer and wild turkeys. We even invited a friend to join us.A photographer, he had a ball with the wildlife. Since it was a cloudy night, we can only imagine what a starlit night would be like. For this we will be back.

Cute cabin

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in cabin #3. Cute, quiet and clean. Dinners on the porch with grilled chicken one night and steak the second night, while watching the deer were highlights of our stay. We were happy to return to the peacefulness of the cabin after spending the day out exploring.

best kept secret in Montana

  • 5 of 5

We were so happy we chose to stay here. The cabins have beautiful and authentic craftsmanship and all the amenities you would ever need. Quiet, comfortable, cozy, warm and peaceful. We were one mile from town and 40 minutes from BlackTail ski resort and where we enjoyed 3 days of fresh powder and snow boarding. The owners were kind and helpful and shared some great stories about the area. We intend to come back with our whole family to rent the three cabins.

private setting in clean cabin

  • 5 of 5

I recommend this cozy, one bedroom cabin for a small family or a couple. The location with all the meadow and forested hills really make it feel like authentic Montana. Each day we were greeted by deer and sometimes would turkeys. The inside of the cabin is roomy enough to cook and eat and play board or card games. Our hosts were there if we needed anything. A 2 minute drive to Bigfork and the lake made it even more convenient. We would stay here again.

Beautiful cabins - great getaway

  • 5 of 5

These cabins are adorable! The craftsmanship and attention to detail are incredible. The cabins include everything you need. We were able to have breakfast at the cabin each morning, and grilled dinner one night too. They are very close to town, but nestled in a wooded area that is so peaceful. We saw lots of deer and turkeys. I would highly recommend these cabins.

Excellent stay...

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I needed a night away and found this wonderful gem near the Flathead Lake in Bigfork, MT. It looked exactly as pictured in the VRBO listing. We were impressed at the quality work and comfortable layout of the place. It was just the right size for the two of us, though with the extra bed we could have had another person(s) with us. The cabin and surrounding area were very clean. The grass was mowed and the cabin was ready for us even though we were earlier than the check in time. We have bragged to family and friends about this place and would definitely rent from them again. The Echo Lake Cafe in Bigfork, MT was a great choice for breakfast and we would recommend this for breakfast or lunch. They are only open till 2:30 PM so not dinner.
