About Brant Cooper

We are both Georgia natives and currently live in Savannah. We have been married since 2010 and have a Springer Spaniel named Motley. We enjoy the outdoors, beach, biking, college football and traveling.

Brant Cooper purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Brant Cooper chose Northeast Mountains

It is in a great location, you feel like you are away from everything and it is extremely relaxing but just a short walk to Helen and the River. The fireplace and porch were two things we really liked when purchasing and continue to enjoy with this cabin.

What makes this cabin unique

Oktoberfest, fall leaves changing colors, occasional snow in the winter, being away from everything but right in Helen, kayaking, fishing, hiking and enjoying the mountains.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Just wanted you to know how much we enjoyed our stay at your cabin (#280) on April 14-17. It exceeded our expectations and was just what we needed. The whole destination was a surprise for my wife to celebrate her birthday (belated). She was blown away when she saw the cabin. It was clean, well stocked, and cute. Everything went off without a hitch. We hiked to Anna Ruby Falls one day and strolled around Helen another day. We greatly appreciated your suggestions regarding restaurants and stores. Thank you very much for allowing us to "live" at your cabin for those days. We felt refreshed, relaxed, and rejuvenated. Who knows......we may visit again in the future.

Great location for our stay and I agree with others that it is a short walk to town but the climb back up is not for everyone and quite a trek. The town is cute and quaint but no parking available without paying $5.00 except at City's lot which is $2.00. Can't believe they don't allow for city parking free with the number of tourists but I guess they rack up the $$$. Parking issue was a pain. We loved Anna Ruby Falls and the Unicoi State Park. Habersham winery was fun. The cabin is great except having to go downstairs during night to use bathroom was not fun. There were no hangers for clothes and only a small rack to hang clothes on. Did not see about Apartment/dorm size fridge so I could not put groceries in it (I cook breakfast) and owner needs to have a plastic pot scrubber for pots and pans as they are teflon and will be ruined by those who scrape with it. There was no dish cloth or towel so I had to use a washcloth. Little things but we loved it and had a great time.

Convenient and cozy. Had basically what we needed for a two day stay.

  • 3 of 5

There are a few things we were surprised about and would like to mention for review and future guests. We DID encounter a black bear in our first minutes at the cabin so be careful and especially of your trash. Do not leave outside. We were somewhat disappointed in the cleanliness (or lack of) especially on the outside. If advertising a porch to sit and relax on, we felt it should be clean and inviting. We had to wash off the rockers just to sit down on them, and sweep the porch. Leaves, dirt and cobwebs everywhere. If this is not on the cleaning crew's list, please add??

We were also surprised to find that the refrigerator is only dorm size, and thankful we didn't bring food to cook. Would not have been room to keep it. This may have been something we missed in amenities on the site, but nice to know?

We did see on a previous review about the water pipes squalling with every use, and found to be true. With sink, toilet, shower etc it squeals. If that can be fixed, would definitely be a plus.

Last thing - we woke up the second night to continuous crackling noises - LOUD - my husband thought something might be in the walls, but after getting up the next day realized something (mouse, rat, etc,?) had been on the kitchen counter and chewed through a cookie package eating half a cookie. Sorry, but cabin in the woods or not - yuck!

This is sincerely not meant to be critical but suggestive of things that need improvement for an 'I loved it!' review.

It was convenient for what we needed, the property mgt. was very responsive and helpful, but not sure what we experienced was worth the cost per night??

My husband needed a place to rest, clean up and relax for a day after hiking on the Appalachian Trail, and it was ok for that.

Great stay

  • 5 of 5

I would highly recommend staying in this cabin over staying in one of the hotels located in the downtown area. You are a very short walk away from everything. Helen is a very crowded place during the summer, so this allows you to retreat into the woods. It was very quiet and cozy. The picture is slightly misleading in that you have 3 or 4 other cabins right next to you.

Very clean and cozy for two. So close to downtown activities. Loved sitting on the back porch listening to birds singing their sweet sounds.

Great place to unwind!

  • 4 of 5

This place is perfect for couples and dogs. The property was very clean and cozy. The front porch is perfect for sipping coffee or wine depending on the time of day.

I would give the property 5 stars if it wasn't for a lot of light bulbs being out. We replaced 3 while we were there. The property manager was very helpful to instruct us where some were hidden, but the cleaning staff must have not replaced the stash. It's not a deal breaker, and I hope to be back! Another review mentioned the water pipes... they do make an awful noise anytime you use any water in the house. Overall we had a great experience.
