Carriage House Apartment

Come to Montana to experience the Romance of the West. Our western style Carriage House Apartment offers an intimate, romantic hide-away in the charming Western town of Whitefish, MT. Set in the rugged Whitefish Mountain Range this one bedroom apartment has been been designed with your comfort and enjoyment in mind using high quality materials.

Relax on the leather sofa or recliner in the glow from the stone fireplace. Watch the game on the flat panel TV over the log mantle. Enjoy the view of Big Mountain from the dining area.

After a day of play in Whitefish luxuriate in the spa tub or shower in the walk-in slate tiled shower. Either way you will appreciate the beautiful bathroom and the radiant heat will keep your toes toasty. For your convenience there is a full sized washer and dryer in the bathroom closet.

At night slip into a deep sleep in the pillow-top queen sized bed with high quality bedding. Step out on the deck for some star gazing to check out Montana’s Big Sky.

Local woods, quarried stone and granite are used throughout this 700 square foot home. The living room has a stone fireplace with a log mantle and a great view of Big Mountain. There is a fully equipped kitchen with granite counters.

And what a location! Close to town; walking distance to great restaurants; a quick drive up the mountain for skiing; and in a quiet neighborhood that borders a nature preserve. So keep your eyes open and your binoculars handy for wildlife viewing.

A heated storage room for skis and equipment is on the premises.

You will love staying here and hate to leave!

Some detailed info:

The flooring is all responsibly harvested local fir and larch from the great folks at RBM Lumber. The fireplace stone is from McGreggor Lake, MT. The mantle was made locally by John Emerson whose family has been making log furniture for decades. Much of the furniture is from Old Hickory Furniture, not local but they have been making the finest lodge furniture for over 100 years.

About Karen Hinman

Karen and Richard Hinman split their time between homes in CT where they lived since 1982 and Whitefish, MT since 2004. They moved to Whitefish full time in 2012. They are shown here in Glacier National Park on the Dawson/Pitamakin Trail.

Karen Hinman purchased this apartment in 2010

Why Karen Hinman chose Whitefish Lake Area

This area of Montana is a little bit of paradise, something to be experienced not just visited. There is so much to do and see. Every year we find new things to enjoy here in Big Sky country.

What makes this apartment unique

After spending six summers in Whitefish, we found this property and can't believe how lucky we are to be able to live here. We added this apartment in 2010 and put an enormous amount of thought into making it exceptional. It was designed with great attention to detail and respect for craftsmanship; comfort, style and high quality are the standard. We know our guests will appreciate the care and effort that have gone into this charming and intimate hide-away.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We love your luxury apartment. The pictures online were nice, but they don't really give the whole picture of how cozy and clean and gorgeous this place is.

This was the perfect place for our three night stay. We enjoyed a day at Whitefish Mountain Resort and a day snowshoeing in Glacier National Park.

We can't imagine having any other "base camp" while in the area and will highly recommend it.

Book it if available

  • 5 of 5

Excellent host, responsive, quality input, generous with their time. Exceptional 3-night stay, rare property where the feel of the place far exceeds the photos. Quality materials, coved ceilings, living area neither too large nor too small. Spa was ahh after days of skiing Whitefish, snowshoeing in Glacier backcountry. You will arrive smiling, leave reluctantly.

Stunning get away

  • 5 of 5

This apartment is a perfect little get away. It was so beautiful to look out in the morning and see the ski hill and mountains. We really liked where it was located because we could go downtown or up to the ski hill with ease. The decor inside made it very homy and also gave it a rustic hide away feel. Karen and Richard were awesome and welcomed us into their apartment. For our first time renting a place this was definitely a good experience and we cannot wait to go back!! This is a perfect place to stay in the winter time!

Excellent accommodation!

Cozy, clean and very comfortable loft surrounded by nature. This newly built space wasn't missing a thing and the owners were very friendly. I would highly recommend to others. Thank you Richard and Karen, all the best in 2017.

Quiet retreat within close proximity to all amenities

  • 5 of 5

In a nutshell, everything about the place was great! It was clean, well laid out, kitchen was well stocked and the fireplace was much appreciated considering the cold wave in early December. The owners even left some water bottles for us, which I thought was a nice gesture! The views outside the apartment were nice with wildlife sightings! Overall, again, great place! I'd definitely recommend staying here!!

My Montana "home"

  • 5 of 5

This is probably my 5th year staying at this apartment and it has come to feel like my Montana home! I love the way it backs up to a green space preserve area and I can watch the deer, pheasant, wild turkeys and other wildlife from my upstairs deck. Karen and Richard are top-notch hosts and always welcoming! I highly recommend this delightful lodging anytime you are lucky enough to visit Whitefish and nearby Glacier National Park.
