Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)

This property is perfect for families on vacation, friends who want to get together, or couples who want a great place to get away for a romantic holiday. We have recently had a family on sabbatical from a university located in cold country; they were here for 6 months, enrolled their children in the local schools to learn Spanish, and are reluctantly heading back to snow!

Fun shopping in Ensenada or at La Bufadora, much less hustle and bustle. Then come home, light the gas fire, watch the city lights and sip a little wine or a nice cup of tea.

About Linda Sanders

We have lived here, on and off, for over 25 years and still find it ideal. The weather is great, the ocean is ever changing, the people are terrific and the choices of things to do is never ending. We bought this property as a rental and our eventual home (first we have to pay it off!) and we live just down the street.

Linda Sanders purchased this house in 2007

Why Linda Sanders chose Baja California Norte

Punta Banda is a perfect family beach area; the beach is shallow for quite a way, the waves are gentle and occasionally even offer something for surfers. Our family has enjoyed vacations here for years and we hope other families can have the same experience. But, this is not just a 'family' house, it's a great place for that reconnection weekend you and your significant other have talked about for ages, it's a fun house to entertain friends, great for house parties (notice, we did not say 'drunken brawls') and it's the perfect place to visit alone when you're stressed out from the normal world. We can feel cares slipping away as we cross the border.

What makes this house unique

We love ending the day with a glass of wine on one of the two the decks overlooking the ocean, going out early in the morning to watch the sunrise over the estuary, bike riding along the beach and watching people just kicking back and enjoying life. The fireplace provides a cozy spot on cooler days, and big glass doors open to allow breezes to flow through on warmer days. The beach is perfect for our grandchildren, who are now ages 4 months to 23 years -- hard to beat that! Dolphins in the evenings, pelicans all day, sea gulls scrapping overhead, little skittering birds along the water all provide entertainment. For some world class meals, Ensenada is close by. Local restaurants come and go and some are perfect for a day after the beach. They currently offer everything from good Mexican food to pizza to fish so fresh that it smiles up at you. If you want to do nothing, there are movies to watch on the DVD player, books galore to read in the 'library' aka the bunk room, and lots of places for navel gazing and contemplation! We are available anytime should you need information or a fast repair or toilet paper or whatever.

Perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

Great place to stay. The house is right on the beach. The kids absolutely loved the kayaks. The house is close to La Bufadora, so it makes a perfect location.

Beautiful beach home

  • 5 of 5

We were amazed at how beautiful this home is, and the location on the beach is perfect. There is room for three cars inside the driveway.

The view from the upstairs bedroom is stunning.

The house is laid out well, we had 7 people and there was plenty of room. The kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans and dishes.

The big family room was so nice to hang out in, with an amazing view right on the beach.

Expect a lot of folks to set up camp on the beach on the weekend, families bring tents and stay all weekend. We enjoyed watching this, wish we could do this on our beaches here in California. They pick up and after Sunday night the beach is pretty clear during the week.

The drive took us longer than google maps suggested, more like 3.5 hours from San Diego.

Linda was a great host, available for any questions or issues.

We would definitely come back, it was a great vacation.

Everything you need!

  • 5 of 5

My family (8 adults, 1 toddler, and 2 babies) stayed here and were very pleased with the place. Linda was extremely communicative and made sure we had everything we needed. She lives just down the street so it is easy for her to check in on things. She even got a pack n play for us per my request a few days before.

This was one of the few houses we could find that had 3 ACTUAL bedrooms - no storage or laundry room with a bunk bed thrown in. The top floor is an enormous bedroom with plenty of floor space if you need (could easily throw an air mattress or two) and a cool patio with an amazing view of the beach. The other two bedrooms on the main floor were a good size too, we even had room for a pack 'n' play in the smallest one. I think there was cable/TV in every bedroom if you're into that thing. Another huge plus is three full bathrooms - never had to wait for a shower. The kitchen was very spacious and had everything we needed to cook - and we did a lot of cooking! Lots of windows on the main level with easy beach access. Tons of seating and couches in the living room, and a dining room table big enough for all of us (squeezing just a bit).

Other pros: outdoor shower (with warm water!) to rinse off the sand, boogie boards, kayaks, beach chairs. We enjoyed roasting marshmallows over the fire pit one evening. There were plenty of bath and beach towels - we did not have to wash any the whole time. We had space to park our FOUR cars inside the gate for extra security.

Every property has a few cons - but nothing that would prevent us from coming back! This house is very close to the public beach, so the beach may not be as clean or quiet as some houses further down the peninsula - but it was really only noticeable on the weekend. One day there was a car parked on the beach in front of the place and there was a decent amount of garbage - a few of us spent some time on the first day picking it up. There was also some horse poop but I imagine that you get that all the way down the peninsula. Lastly, some of the furniture inside the house had a bit of an odor and could probably be replaced or at least get a new slipcover, but otherwise the house was very clean.

Overall - amazing! Thanks for a great stay and we can't wait to come back!

Owner's Response: thanks, Jennifer, it was great having you and your family! Loved the babies and Lucca (spelling?) and that they were able to hang out and have a good time. I'm really happy that we could accommodate all of you; a family reunion is great if everyone can be together. Please come back soon! Smelly furniture -- I'm working on exchanging it for some that's newer, down filled, soooooo comfortable. Can't do much about the beach and the crowds (or the horse poop) but think it was great of you to pick up some of the trash. We usually try to get it during the week so that we at least start the weekend cleared! Best, Linda

Great beach house, and perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect for us, very spacious open floor. We were a party of three women, with four children all under the age of 8. The trip was mainly for the kids to enjoy a week of fun in the water, and the kids had a ball the whole time we were there. We felt very safe the entire time. I would definitely love to go back, but this time with my husband so that we can enjoy the "view" from the master suite on the second floor :)

Big open spacious home 50 steps from getting our toes into the ocean beach!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wondering time on this beach house.

very small CONS:

-Hard to find as it did not have a house number, so if it wasn't for the amazing communication from the owner, you would think you are lost in Mexico! :)

-Outside gate/door will give you a quick thought of "oh no, we totally got a crappy vacation home", BUT when you walk in, its nothing like the gate - a really cool, spacious, & open home and yes just literally about 50 steps from dipping your toes into the waves.

PROS:

Right on the beach, private beach at times(non-Sunday), gorgeous sunsets

Kitchen stocked with everything you need, but a bit fun trying to mix and match pots/pans and their lids. hehe, nonetheless we made it work.

Kayaks and boogie boards provided were a ton of fun (found out my daughter now loves kayaking!)

Some board games for the kids to enjoy their time while getting a break from the beach.

Not too far from the main road in case you need a urgent item.

Very close to La Bufadora for a quick blow-hole experience getaway.

tons more to list...overall, we would definately be coming back to this place.

Thanks again to Linda for hosting us in her wonderful beach house.

Ben L.

The wine country is just north of Ensenada, about an hour's drive away. It's a beautiful drive, lots of wineries to see and lots of wine to buy. Tide pools and mini hot spring close by. Bring your canoe or boat, jet ski, or Seadoos (sp?). La Bufadora is 15 minutes away, local health center offers yoga and other eastern style exercises, as well as massages that have everyone raving about them. Daily Zumba classes also held locally.During August, the Vendimia, a yearly wine festival with numerous events revolving around food and wine, are extremely popular; many sell out early. Golf is available at the Baja Country Club, a 20 minute drive and at Bajamar, about an hour north of Ensenada. Tide pools and a natural hot spring are close by; you can walk down, take a shovel and make your own hot tub! Take the kids to Las Cañadas water park (google it!) for water sports and zip lining . . . adult friendly as well!
