Overview

About the property

4 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, 1 half bathroom, sleeps 10

This is a very well appointed 4 bedroom/2.5 bath house with magnificent views, on 40+ acres of woodland and meadows, with hiking and VAST trails climbing to the peak of Cram Hill and connecting to the Roxbury State Forest (which the property borders). There is a spring-fed pond and a sandy beach for swimming or fishing. There is a 900 sq. ft. covered wraparound porch with 180 degree mountain views. Stonework and hardwood run throughout the house, and the gourmet kitchen features stainless, maple and granite.

There is a wood-burning stove (firewood is included), as well as two gas-fired fireplaces. Satellite wide-screen televisions (with a 300+ DVD movie library), wireless high-speed internet, audiophile stereo ( with record library), books, games and a land-line phone are available for your use (limited cell service), as are full laundry facilities, a piano, and a two-car garage. The master bedroom suite includes a private dressing room and 2-person Jacuzzi tub.

Green construction: Local craftsmen and builders were used for all aspects of construction, and local materials were used whenever possible. Green construction and Lo-E glass throughout contribute to the high thermal efficiency of the structure. The property is powered by a hybrid solar system. Filtered water flows from deep within a granite outcropping and supplies the water needs of the house.

The Dog River Valley: This property is located in the beautiful Dog River Valley of Central Vermont, 10 miles from Warren Center and the Mad River Valley, and 15 miles to Sugarbush Resort. To answer a question that a lot of folks have asked, it takes about 30 min. to drive to Sugarbush in the winter, except of course when we get bombed by a couple feet of snow - at these times it takes a bit longer, but it's well worth it! It is also 10 miles to Northfield, VT and Norwich University, and 15 miles to Randolph, VT (where there is an Amtrak station) and Vermont Technical College. There are three great golf courses within 15 miles. The quaint town of Roxbury is 4 miles away for gas, post office and basic supplies. It is a 5 hour drive from NYC and 3 hours from Boston or Montreal.

Thanks for looking!

Peaceful, quiet, comfy house, great porch, lots of room

  • 5 of 5

The house is off the grid but between the solar panels and the generator we had plenty of power. The wood stove and the electric fireplace were plenty hot, we loved sitting around at night with the fire going. The house was large and comfy, we were 3 but it could have held quite a few more, though 8 would be tight. We would love to come back to see it in the snow, or the spring. We were there for leaf peeping, and we had fabulous drives over to route 100 and all over central VT. It's a good location, away from the tourist crush up by Waterbury but close enough to grocery stores and beautiful drives. We loved going over the mountains through the gap drives into the Mad River Valley. Waitsfield and Warren were great little towns, lots of quaint places to see and bakeries to explore. My friends were very happy with the house, I loved all the books too. Felt like staying at a friend's place, not a rental.

great place, as described in listing :)

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing weekend at Scott's listing- we had a family reunion and the house had everything we needed from breathtaking views from the porch, to ample lawn space for lawn games, a charcoal grill, a fire pit, a big living room where everyone could gather, and enough bedrooms to accommodate our group. We spent some time at a nearby lake but many of us didn't even want to leave the property all weekend bc of how peaceful and beautiful it is. Scott stocked the house with everything you need from TP and paper towels, to cleaning supplies, kitchen condiments, and plenty of linens/towels. He was prompt and helpful with communication regarding check in and check out, and had lots of information on things to do in the area for folks if you are new to the area. We will definitely be back next year!!

Get away in VT is fantastic!

  • 5 of 5

Spent a fantastic three nights at the house and out exploring Vermont with a great group of friends. Slept 9 of us comfortably and all the amenities were very nice. The porch was our favorite area of the house. Great view!! 10/10 would come back...

Tour center

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I---former Vermonters who left in 1959 for the Air Force---spent four days at Scott's house at the end of June. We brought our three grandchildren--ages 17 to 22--to tour Vermont before they are all in college and to busy. The house was great!! Lots of room, very comfortable and we all had a great time. The location is great being almost dead center Vermont. We could go in any direction very easily with lots to see. Only complaint was the Vermont weather----three days of rain and cool! But some good news out of that too---wood heater in the house worked great had house was very comfy. We will do it again!

A True Slice of Heaven!

  • 5 of 5

We had a WONDERFUL long weekend at Scott's lovely home. Extremely comfortable and specious for our family. Our dogs were welcome and in heaven. Nice comfortable beds, modern kitchen and very comfortable living areas - but the highlight was definitely the wonderful porch with a view of the mountains catching lovely breezes all the time and equipped with every kind of comfortable chair we could want. A true slice of heaven!

Lovely spot with spectacular views

  • 4 of 5

Spent a week at Scott's lovely mountaintop house. Had trouble peeling ourselves off the porch: rain, fog, sun, storm, wind the huge front and comfortable porch was wonderful. It's huge! The house is quite spacious, obviously loved, and very comfortable. The drive out to the house up the mountain is fun. This is the place to go if you want to leave your cellphone in your suitcase, eat like a king, and stare at the mountains while you drink coffee. Or something. It's so quiet! On the other hand, if you need wifi you've got it. Scott is responsive, helpful, and available. The kitchen is fairly well equipped. The place was clean. The beds are comfy. And the views, the views! There are a few things to know. Cellphone reception is sketchy. The nearest grocery is a bit of a haul, that said, there's plenty of GREAT places around to load up. It's a gravel road up the mountain so don't take a Geo Metro up there during mud season. It was a bit of a shock to get back to civilization after a week at Scott's wonderful mountaintop zen farmhouse. Seriously lovely calm place to stay.
