Why The Owner chose Truckee

Donner Lake is one of my favorite areas on earth. Searching the world over it is difficult to find a place with a higher quality of life. Everything that makes life outstanding can be found here: 300 days a year with sunshine and fresh air, pristine turquoise/emerald lakes and rivers, deliciously charming restaurants, and homey cafe's that always offer friendly people to meet. Those who dare to adventure can find nearly every sport minutes away, and the other crowd can fill their days at a Tahoe lakeside spa, shop endlessly for material delicacies, gamble, cocktail, listen to music, sit on a sunny bench, relax and watch the boats go by ... anything-everything-possible ... seriously.

One of our best vacations ever!

  • 5 of 5

This property is as close to perfect as we've ever been in. The layout is clever & functional, the location is quiet & convenient, and the view -- everyone is so spot-on; the photos don't come close to capturing how breathtakingly beautiful it is.

We stayed Aug. 8-12 and the weather was so ideal we never turned on the heater or the AC.

It's extremely clean and very well-kept.

The second-story deck (accessible from both the dining room & living room) was the perfect spot for grilling, dining, watching the boats or stargazing, although we could also see a spotlight moon & many stars literally from our living room couch. Amazing.

There's an unobstructed view of Donner Lake & the mountains on its south shores, and both boat & road traffic was pretty minimal (we stayed Mon-Fri & it was so peaceful).

There are two easy-on/easy-off ramps to I-80 (one about a mile away, the other 3 or so), which is far enough away you don't hear traffic but close enough you're there quickly. Truckee is a few minutes away, and there is easy access to both the west and east shores of Tahoe. Tahoe City (30 minutes) and Kings Beach (20 minutes) are a short drive away, and the drive itself is pretty in both directions.

This condo has all the amenities of home.

In fact, I wish it was my home. We WILL be back.

Beautiful Lakeside Home with Incredible View!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent a week at Paul and Lynene"s beautiful lakeside home on Donner Lake. I wanted to be sure to write this review because our stay and interaction with Paul could not have been more enjoyeable and easy. The home is part of a condo complex but feels very private. Once booked, Paul and Lynene immediately sent information with specifics for entry to their home, some house requests in regards to using the bbq, entertainment system, where to find towels, parking, contact info, etc. This was very helpful.

We were lucky to book this location over the 4th of July week. We were informed that it would likely be quite busy on July 3rd and 4th, but then the activity would become much less after the 4th. This is exactly what happened. We enjoyed the activity on July 4th, the perfect view of fireworks over the lake followed by a peaceful, restful stay the remainder of the week.

The area is near many great hiking trails, restaurants in Truckee and a wide array of water activities on Donner Lake which is across the road. We combined occasional cooking and barbecuing at the condo with going out to restaurants in Truckee.

Paul and Lynene were also travelling half way around the world during our stay at their home but still found the time to contact us to make sure all was okay with our arrival. They also made sure to give us contact info for their housekeeper in case we needed anything during our stay. The housekeeper also contacted us to make sure we arrived okay. We felt like Paul and Lynene took great care to make sure our stay was a enjoyeable! Thank you so much, Paul and Lynene!

I ski North Lake Tahoe often – maybe 8 or 10 weekends last year – and have stayed at many places in the Truckee – Donner area. This place is really special. It is extremely clean and fresh. It is light and airy, with a magical feeling in the winter, you see beautiful mountains and lake all around you. I stayed here in January 2017, after heavy snows, and just gazed out the picture windows at the white and peaceful mountains. There is a gas fireplace in the upstairs living area that warms things up quickly and gives a nice homey feeling in the evening. The owners are very considerate and helpful. And you can’t beat the location – right on Donner Lake, just a few minutes off interstate 80. you get there a half-hour sooner than Tahoe City locations, but you are still very close to all the major North Lake ski areas.

Beautiful lake front house with gracious hosts

  • 5 of 5

Thanks for the wonderful stay!

This townhouse is lovely and exceptionally clean. It has new carpets, kitchen, and bathrooms. As the listing says, there are marvelous views of the lake and mountains from all the rooms. It looks like the kitchen and bathrooms were remodeled recently.

I considered staying at Squaw Valley, but felt that the condos there are too crowded and busy. In contrast, this unit is peaceful, with just a bit of activity across the street at the Donner Lake boat ramp. I like to fish, and easy access to the lake is ideal for me.

The owners were kind and helpful. I reached out to them for tips on local restaurants, and they had a number of suggestions. They also let me stay late on my departure date and returned my security deposit immediately.

You cannot find a more wonderful place and more gracious host in the Lake Tahoe basin.

Clean and nice but uncomfortable situation

  • 2 of 5

This is a very clean and nice condo across the street from Donner Lake. It seemed like a great spot to enjoy the area from but we found ourselves very uncomfortable there. We recognized the nightly rental was over market for the season but felt it would be worth it. But we immediately felt like intruders in someone else' home where their personal property and protective signs were very off putting. We were very careful and actually did not even cook or BBQ to ensure our deposit would be returned. It is possible that there is video monitoring in the entry hallway. There is only one television if that is a factor for people. Nice setting in the pines. Some traffic noise at night. Attractively decorated.

Owner's Response: I’m glad you shared that your accommodation was very clean, nice and attractively decorated, as this is what I strive to hear. My goal is to create a warm and happy place for all to enjoy. It is disheartening to learn that you were uncomfortable and felt like intruders. I was excited by the rare opportunity to meet my guests and welcome you inside, even helping with your bags. I remember we took a little tour then chatted about Donner Lake, the location of our private beach, fishing - and the BBQ. Of course I am surprised to learn you did not BBQ or cook a meal in fear of losing your deposit. Goodness sakes! Yes, there are a few notes in the house that say ‘for decoration only’ and ‘private’. Most owners use locks to hide away the ‘good stuff’. However I prefer to provide quality alternatives for items not meant for daily use, such as band-aids and beautiful dishes for special occasions, if you’ll please wash and dry by hand. This way our home is more inviting and everyone wins. There is no video monitoring. There is a ‘no shoes’ rule with a reminder posted in the entry. It is an important rule – it helps keep the home nice and clean. In closing I’d like to explain that Donner Pines West are not condos, they are townhouses albeit mislabeled. Donner Pines EAST, a mile up the road, are actual condos as they are built having units above/below and on both sides. Townhouses are built side by side only. An unmentioned bonus is our decks have privacy from one another nice for romance.
