My wife and I live in a beautiful but rainy city in the Pacific Northwest. We are both francophiles, and it seemed natural to want to spend part of our year in Provence. There we thrive on the sunny weather, wonderful friends and soul-satisfying food and wine that await at Villa Les Geraniums in Lorgues. Spend a week or two and you'll understand!
Simone purchased this Villa in 2004
Why Simone chose Lorgues
Lorgues is located in the Var region of southern France. Lorgues is a beautiful and historic market town, but it is also a real town where people live and work. You will find a full range of restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets as well as bakeries, pastry shops, markets, newsagents, a cinema and a post office. The weekly Tuesday market offers a cornucopia of clothing, decorative items and foods of all descriptions. Lorgues is conveniently accessible by air, rail and road. The Mediterranean coast is 45 minutes to the south, while the rugged Gorges du Verdon (the Grand Canyon of France) is an hour to the north. The Italian border lies ninety minutes to the east. And, of course, there is the wonderful climate of the south of France.
What makes this Villa unique
Villa Les Geraniums combines the convenience of the town with the pleasures of the country. The villa is perched on a hill overlooking Lorgues, a town of 8500 inhabitants which is a 12 minute walk down from the house. Lorgues offers all the amenities a guest could wish, including what is likely the best weekly market in the region. However, once back at the house, you're on top of the world and ready to enjoy the views, the gentle breezes and a glass of rose by the pool!

Beautiful Villa in the heart of Provence
This was our second stay at Les Geraniums and we enjoyed it as much as the first. We were there over the Easter holiday weekend so we experienced how the French embrace food, family and local festivities in the town of Lourges which is only a 10 minute walk from the house. Everyone in the town was friendly and helpful and remembered us by name on return visits to the local wine bar, lingerie shop, boulangerie. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the pool deck in the spring sunshine and our evening toasts with Rose' wine with a spectacular view. Les Geraniums is a beautiful place to stay and enjoy everything Provence has to offer from wine country, a run through the area, the tolling of the bells from the church or simply, just "chill".
Idyllic villa in the south of France
Les Geraniums is a beautiful villa overlooking the town of Lorgues. The house is very comfortable and spacious, perfectly decorated Provence-style, with gorgeous views from the deck and spectacular sunsets. There is plenty to do in this area, with vineyards, the Côte d'Azur and the Gorges Du Verdon all within an hour's drive. Our group (6 in total) was however, entranced by the magic of the local lifestyle with leisurely daily walks to town for our morning croissants, exploring the wonderful town markets and restaurants, and drinking Rosé at sunset. There is an binder of information provided by the hosts which answers almost all questions you may have, and a local contact who was very helpful. The restaurant recommendations were excellent. Overall it was a perfect holiday, and we are excited to have saved our exploring for the next visit!
A French countryside retreat with a market town within walking distance
Les Geraniums is a villa in the southern vineyard region of France. We rented the main floor suite which has a large deck with a swimming pool and a lovely view over the valley/vineyards. The main floor has been recently been renovated to a high standard. The local historic market town is within 15 minute's walking distance, and market day is impressive due to all the fresh local produce and products. In spite of it's rural location it is within a day's round trip of multiple notable tourist destinations.
We stayed in this wonderful house and area for 1 week together with another couple. The house is nice, very roomy and beautifully located. After visiting the nearby Provence attractions, sites and scenery, it is wonderful to be able to come "home" at 3 or 4 in the afternoon and relax on the deck by the pool, enjoy the view or have a swim. The house is nicely and comfortably furnished and all appliances and conveniances are available including a washing machine and wi-fi. The local town, Lorgues is delightful. Don't miss the Tuesday market. The very nice English speaking local rep. is readily available to deal with any questions and to provide desired information. Our week at the villa was the highlight of our month in France and the accomodation and the location exceded all our expectations The website and description are completely factual except that the actual house and location are actually much nicer than described and pictured. The detailed direction and the additional information provided by the owner was very helpful. We highly recommend this vacation villa and spot.

A Perfect Holiday
Les Géraniums is a beautiful Villa. We fondly remember driving along the road leading to Lorgues, passing vineyard estates along the way, navigating the narrow, colourful streets of this very French town with its cafés, restaurants and shops, then following the tranquil, pine-filled lane that leads to the Villa. The moment we walked through the front door, we knew that we were going to have a wonderful holiday. The house is open and airy, and decorated with an artist’s touch in the traditional style of Provence. It was so comfortable that many days, after our morning walk to the bakery for baguettes and pastries, we simply relaxed, soaked up the sun, read, ate delicious food from the market, and sipped the local Rosé while our two children frolicked in the pool. The children loved the house which is elegant, but still very child-friendly. The air-conditioning was quiet and efficient, ensuring that we all slept well. Some days we set off on excursions. Nearby there is Tour Tour for shopping and fantastic views, Draguignan for cafés and shopping, and Thoronet Abbey for a glimpse into France’s Cistercian past. A little further away are St Maxime and St Tropez for the beach, restaurants and beautiful people, and Aix for shopping and culture. We enjoyed hiking to the top of Sainte Baume near Aix, where there are stunning views of the Mediterranean. But it was always wonderful to return each evening to the peace and comfort of the Villa. We will definitely be returning.
Absolute Relaxation and Rejuvenation under the Mediterranean Sun
Serendipitously, my stay at Villa Les Geraniums turned out to be one of the most memorable vacations ever. It was a last minute decision to get away after months of work and no play in October, quite late in the season; I had only recently found out about the Villa and had never been to Provence. Upon arrival, I was simply stunned by the light of the late afternoon sun suffusing the kitchen, living room, dining room, and master bedroom with a warm golden glow. The kitchen/living/dining rooms are all very spacious, adjacent and contiguous in a well designed open plan making it ideal for families or completely comfortable for 2 or 3 couples. The interior decor, the fireplace, furniture and rugs all spell immediate comfort, at home ease and relaxation. Stepping out onto the south facing veranda and pool deck the vista is simply glorious. Situated on a steep hillside with a forest of Mediterranean pines behind, one looks over the pastoral valley below, forest and vineyards to the east, the town of Lorgues perched on the hillside to the west, with its prominent medieval church and bell tower. The gold and red of the autumn vine leaves, the stark contrasts of the early morning light and mist over the valley, the play of the morning and evening sun on the centuries old town buildings make for endless opportunities for occasional and ardent photographers alike. Although mornings were crisp, it was still possible to read and sun bath in comfort on the pool deck for several hours in the early afternoon, even in the last week of October. The town being only a 10-15 walk away it was easy to pick up fresh croissants, a baguette, cheese and pate every morning before breakfast.Wandering into town one may come across a flock of sheep being moved from one pasture to another; the narrow crooked cobblestoned alleys all lead to a wide mainstreet - the centre of activity with patisseries, charcuteries, bars and restaraunts all waiting to treat one's senses to the pleasures of French cheeses, bread and wine. The Tuesday market that takes over the entire main street is not to be missed. The boutiques and endless window shopping in Cannes, the beaches and cafes on the waterfront in Saint -Tropez are all only an hour away by car. After 10 days of simply relaxing, then exploring only Cannes and Saint-Tropez, I feel as I have just scratched the surface of what Provence has to offer. I have already made plans to return to Villa Les Geraniums to take in more!
Villa Les Geraniums is located in the heart of the rose wine-growing region of France. Visit the many local wineries and decide which you like best. The Gorges du Verdon, the Grand Canyon of France, lies less than one hour to the north and offers swimming, boating, and hiking. The Mediterranean coast lies 45 minutes to the south. The Italian border is 90 minutes to the east - go to Italy for lunch!
