Great quiet getaway!!!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was everything we imagined and more. Great view and relaxing atmosphere. The enclosed porch was nice to sit on during chilly mornings. The lower deck has a nice sitting area with a swing and out back there is a gazebo/wooden capony to relax under. The recliners in the living room were awesome. We actually took an extended nap after the michigan game. De tour is very small. Go to the village inn for great burgers (hand made patties) and cheap drinks with a strong pour. The mainsail down the road is more expensive and has a larger menu selection but the bartender was rude and most of the customers snoody--food was okay. The ferry to drummond island is super close! Awesome orv trails for mudding--a few places with quad and utv rentals if you do not have your own equiptment. I would reccommend beavers atv rental as he is super friendly and knowledeable. Overall it was a great getaway for my fiance and I. Small and peaceful town. Drummond is a 10 minute ferry ride and is an outdoorsman's play ground.

A restful vacation at De Tour Village

  • 4 of 5

Our family very much enjoyed staying at John and Mary's cottage in De Tour village in the Upper Peninsula in Michigan. As the picture shows, this cottage is for sale, as are many other houses and businesses in the village. When we first arrived on Saturday we found the village to be oddly quiet. Except for the Presbyterian church across the street in which the bells toll every hour during each day. Plus it plays a bit of music after each bell toll. We found that to be unique and interesting. We loved sitting in the enclosed patio and watching the action on the street in front of us, or watching the freighters that came from time to time. One freighter stayed in the channel for five days. The owners provided a book on shipping on the Great Lakes and another which details the history of the Village up to the 1960's, which gives an insight to the development of the village. The harbor is a beautiful place to walk to and enjoy the sight. We brought bikes and it was fun to ride around the village and surrounding roads. We took the ferry and explored Drummond Island on bikes. Now there is a lot of action there. Lots of county roads to ride on. You can rent kayaks but it is preferable to reserve in advance. There is a small grocery store in Detour Village and another one on Drummond Island. Both are expensive and it is best to bring your own food. There are lots of places to visit on the peninsula but it takes several hours to drive to them. Well worth it. Oh, and forget about swimming. The beaches close to De Tour village are empty and the water is cold. The cottage is very clean and well kept. There was a rain shower every day, so make sure to close the windows before you leave. The kitchen has dated equipment but as mentioned, everything works and is clean. We brought an electric skillet which sped up the preparation of meals after a busy day of exploration. There is a TV screen but it's not hooked up to the satellite. Experience taught us to bring a computer and an HDMI cable to view our own movies. Thank you John and Mary, we had a fun time while living in your cottage. Steve and Elaine.

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed yourselves. We wish you had called and asked about Satellite TV. We are hooked up Dish Network TV, it is minimal yes, but it is hooked up. We do not offer access , found it too costly. Our Local library Does have Access, and is is easy to access. We will continue looking for a affordable internet system........ Thanks again for your comments ; we appreciate that. John & Mary

Great house and easy access to the Ferry to go to Drummond Island. Great time, Color tour terriffic

Everything about this house was nice, it has a nice porch out the front where you can look out on the water, and the sun room in front of the house incase it is too cold or windy to sit outside. Having a house like this to spend time in makes your whole vacation go smooth, it was relaxing to come in at night and put your feet up. Thanks again.

Wonderful relaxing mini vacation!

  • 5 of 5

The house was charming with all the necessities of home. It was very clean with a cozy up north cottage feel. I loved sitting on the porch watching the freighters go by! The town of Detour is quaint. We were able to walk one block to church, two blocks to the grocery store, restaurant, gas station and gift shop and across the street to the bar and grill! Wish we could stay here forever!

Wonderful cottage

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I arrived in the early afternoon and all was as John and Mary said it would be. It was nicely decorated and furnished and we especially loved the front porch. Outside deck is pleasant and we loved watching the boats, street and town life. The cottage was very clean and organized. DeTour is a very cute little town, on our way out we visited the botanic gardens which is a must. The cottage is very close to the Drummond Island ferry which runs constantly so is very convenient. We walked to the two restaurants in town which were open. Direct TV but no internet. Overall, very enjoyable!
