The 'Aspen Ski Loft at Beech Mountain' is a cozy cabin at an elevation of 5,200 feet, which ensures the views are awesome, cool weather during the summer, and lots of snow in the winter. The Aspen Ski Loft is located just 50 steps from the slopes of Beech Mountain Ski Resort. There are 40 steps from the driveway to the main entrance of the Aspen Ski Loft, which has large windows that provide amazing panoramic 100-mile, multi-layered long range views of the Appalachian Mountains.
In April 2017, both bathrooms were completely remodeled, removing the fiberglass "shells", and replacing them with real studded walls and:
- Ceramic tile on the floors and surrounding the bathtubs
- New porcelain on steel bathtubs, with new faucets and shower head
- New vanities with solid surface, under-mounted sink, with new faucets
- New toilets, chair height and elongated bowl
- New plumbing; not glamorous, but important
- New electrical wiring, outlets, switches, and can lights over the vanities and tubs
In September 2016, there were major updates completed at the Aspen Ski Loft at Beech Mountain, including many features to keep out the cold winter wind and snow:
- Lower level windows: All of the windows on the lower level were replaced with 6 foot windows, with a 4 foot picture window on top of a 2 foot awning window. The windows are double-paned, and rated to be highly cold weather resistant. In addition, the windows are rated to withstand 100 mph winds.
- Exterior siding: New bark siding, which is weather resistant, was added to the lower level, below the new windows. Shaker siding, which is also weather resistant, was added to the upper level exterior at the deck entrance, and below the upper level windows.
- New roof: The new roofing material was designed to keep the cold weather out, and the warm weather in. The roof was updated to be weather resistant with new plywood and titanium underlayment, and with architectural shingles to withstand 100 mph winds.
- New exterior doors: Both the upper and lower level exterior doors were upgraded to weather resistant fiberglass doors to keep out the cold wind and weather. In addition, an all-glass storm door was added to the upper level exterior doorway for additional winter weather protection.
In September 2014, the kitchen was completely renovated by changing the footprint to provide a larger food preparation area and cooking space with new counter tops, including a full size convection oven with smooth cook top range, large built in microwave, new refrigerator with ice maker, and new dishwasher. In addition, all new kitchen cabinets and drawers were installed.
Also in September 2014, the windows in the kitchen and living room were replaced to provide clear, expansive long range views. In the summer months, the awning at the top of the windows can be opened to allow full house circulation of the cool mountain air. The new windows and increased insulation means better comfort in the winter months.
Also during the September 2014 renovation, the flooring in the living room and kitchen area was replaced, as well as getting a new leather sectional sofa, slipper chair, coffee table, and sofa table for the living room, as well as a new King sized bed, dresser, night stand for the guest bedroom, along with new mattresses and box springs for the master and guest bedrooms.
The September 2014 remodeling is in addition to previous renovations which have been done to continue to improve the experience for guests of the Aspen Ski Loft. Since purchasing the home in October 2010, we have added new ceramic tile in the lower level to replace the carpet, purchased new clothes washer and dryer, replaced the old inefficient fireplace with a new wood pellet fireplace, replaced the carpet and installed new windows in the master and guest bedrooms, completely painted the exterior and interior, added new lighting inside and out, and installed a Nexia Home Intelligence system for remote management of the door locks, thermostats, lighting, and water heater.
The main living area of the Aspen Ski Loft has a living room, dining room, kitchen, 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. The Master bedroom has a queen bed, with a private bathroom with a Japanese soaking tub and a shower. The guest bedroom has a king sized bed, with easy access to the main bathroom. The finished lower level has a separate entrance, and has a den, a sleeping nook with queen bed, and the laundry room.
On the main level, the living room has a rock hearth with a wood pellet fireplace that keeps the house toasty warm. The wood pellet fireplace is controlled by the thermostat on the wall. With the touch of a button, you can have a real wood burning fire in 10 minutes. There is also a flat-screen LED TV with digital cable and DVD player above the fireplace.
The Aspen Ski Loft is located approximately 50 steps from the top of the 'Lower Shawneehaw' ski lift of Beech Mountain Ski Resort. You can literally walk down the steps of the Aspen Ski Loft, walk across the street, strap on your skis or boards, and start skiing or riding.
During the spring, summer and autumn, the Aspen Ski Loft is a great place for mountain biking and hiking. There are numerous biking events, and from June through mid-October, the Beech Mountain resort lifts are open to carry your bike to the top of the mountain for extreme downhill biking. There are hundreds of miles of hiking trail on and around Beech Mountain, with the Emerald Outback Trail being within walking distance of the Aspen Ski Loft.
Although the road is maintained by the Town of Beech Mountain, the Aspen Ski Loft is located right across the street from the ski slopes. Therefore there is blowing snow that accumulates on the road. A 4-Wheel / All-Wheel drive vehicle or snow chains are strongly recommended during the winter months.
The area in which the Aspen Ski Loft is located is one of the most unique areas in Beech Mountain. While this area offers stunning mile high views and proximity to skiing, it also faces challenges in terms of adequate parking for residents and visitors. Guests of the Aspen Ski Loft will be issued a temporary Parking Permit to be used during their stay.
Summers are cool, quiet and lovely, with time for shopping, hiking, whitewater rafting, golf and swimming, as well as Tweetsie Railroad and Emerald Mining for the kids. In addition, there is Grandfather Mountain nearby, with its mile-high swinging bridge and the wonderful Highland Games, which are held each summer.
During the autumn, all types of festivals are held in the surrounding area, including The Wooly Worm Festival and the Autumn at Oz weekend.
Beech Mountain is the highest incorporated town east of the Rocky Mountains. During the winter months, you have access to all the wonderful winter sports within walking distance of the Aspen Ski Loft, including downhill skiing, tubing, sledding, ice skating and cross-country skiing. There are three other ski resorts located within a 25 minute drive (Sugar Mountain, Appalachian, and Hawksnest).
The Blue Ridge Parkway is located just 15 miles from Beech Mountain, offering a beautiful 2 hour drive to Asheville, North Carolina.
Access to Beech Mountain Club - Golf, Tennis, Swim: Guests of the Aspen Ski Loft have access to the exclusive Beech Mountain Club, with access to golf, swimming, tennis courts, and the Fitness Center. Contact the owner of the Aspen Ski Loft for more information about access to the Beech Mountain Club.
Should you want to eat out, several great restaurants are very close by, whether it is a 10 minute drive into Banner Elk or 17 mile drive to Boone. For a small fee, guests have access to the Beech Mountain Club, with 18 hole Golf, Golf Clubhouse, fitness center, private restaurant, Children's Day Camp, tennis, Olympic pool and hiking.
Great for couples, honeymooners, retirees, snowbirds, young people, golfers, tennis players, skiers, snowboarders, tubers, etc.
Well behaved pets are welcome at the Aspen Ski Loft with a $100 Pet Fee, and guests are asked to agree to these conditions:
1. Pets must go outside to pee and poop
2. Pets cannot get on the furniture, especially the leather sectional sofa, as their claws can rip the leather
3. Pets cannot sleep in or on the beds as some of our guests have allergies.
Guests are kindly requested to take their garbage to the Town of Beech Mountain recycling center, located across Beech Mountain Parkway from Fred's General Mercantile, rather than using the trash bins located at the Aspen Ski Loft.
There has been a terrible problem with raccoons and bears getting in to the trash bin located at the Aspen Ski Loft, spreading the trash and making quite a mess. Not to mention they keep tearing up the trash bin.
Therefore, we are asking our guests to take their garbage to the Town of Beech Mountain recycling center, and not put any garbage in the trash bins located at the Aspen Ski Loft. Please put your garbage in a trash bag. You can take the garbage to the Town of Beech Mountain recycling center during your stay if needed, and at the end of your stay as you are departing the Aspen Ski Loft.
The Town of Beech Mountain recycling center is located about one-half mile away from the Aspen Ski Loft. From Ski Loft Road, turn left on to Beech Mountain Parkway, and go about one-quarter mile. The recycling center is on the right, across Beech Mountain Parkway from Fred's General Mercantile. Simply drive into the recycling center, toss your bagged garbage into a dumpster, and drive out to be on your way.
We realize this is an inconvenience for our guests, and your understanding and cooperation is greatly appreciated. It will greatly reduce the amount of trash being strewn about the Aspen Ski Loft, and it will also reduce the quantity of visits from unwanted animals during the night.

Mountain Spring Break
My daughters & I decided to visit the mountains during their spring break week off. The ski loft was very cozy and just what we were looking for in a mountain retreat. The bedrooms were very comfortable. The living areas were great; one upstairs and one downstairs. And a very functional kitchen. There was adequate private space for the girls to retreat to. Although we didn't get to ski, the areas is loaded with amazing hiking trails, some with waterfall.I would strongly recommend the ski loft.
Thank you Mark for staying at the Aspen Ski Loft at Beech Mountain, and thank you for writing such a great review! Michele and I really appreciate it!
Thank you for spending Spring Break in the mountains with your 3 daughters! That is a great idea to head for the mountains for Spring Break! We are glad the Aspen Ski Loft was just what you were looking for in a Spring Break mountain get-away!
Thank you for your kind words about the Aspen Ski Loft being cozy and comfortable, with two living spaces; one upstairs and one downstairs. The Aspen Ski Loft is a great place for families with children - - the parents like to be upstairs, and the children like to be downstairs in their own space - - far enough away, but still close by. Great for both parents and children!
Yes there are amazing hiking trails, waterfalls, and other outdoor adventures in and around Beech Mountain. We are glad you got to enjoy it!
Thank you for taking such good care of the Aspen Ski Loft during your stay. You and your family are welcome to be our guests again at the Aspen Ski Loft!

Perfect Vacation !!
Went for spring break and it was the last snow of the season... what a timing, it snowed just the day we went and we had a great time . The house was good and neat but little small (good for 4-5 people) than what we see in pictures but amazing views and nice location ( walkable to skiing place) . Definitely need some upgrades to the TV’s and need to add Netflix etc. Roger (the owner) was very responsive and took care of things when contacted .
Thank you Bhaskar for staying at the Aspen Ski Loft at Beech Mountain, and thank you for writing such a great review! Michele and I really appreciate it!

Family Weekend Getaway
My family and my son's friend stayed here this past weekend for what was originally planned as a ski getaway. We had to rearrange our weekend at the last minute to accommodate the lack of snow. While we knew the weather might not cooperate with us in March, it was disappointing to find out after we had rearranged our itinerary that Sugar Mountain was still skiing while we were in town. We would have still stayed here at the Aspen Ski Loft but could have driven the short drive to Sugar.. That said, the rearranged trip (zip lining, off roading, Grandfather Mountain, and Linville Caverns) was very fun, and there was still some snow on the sledding hill near the loft for the two Florida boys to enjoy some winter in the mountains. The loft was perfect for what we needed. It was fully furnished, comfortable, and close to what we needed. The owners were a pleasure to work with, and they made the entire process a breeze. Cooking breakfast in the loft and packing lunches every day allowed us to spend more money on our adventures. We would be happy to book here again. Thanks for a great weekend.
Karyn and Jackie Allee-Herndon
Thank you Karyn for staying at the Aspen Ski Loft, and thank you for writing such a great review. Michele and I really appreciate it.
Yes the March weather can be unpredictable. I am sorry Beech Mountain Ski Resort had closed for the season, but I am glad you still had some fun in the snow. I was not aware that Sugar Mountain was still operating, or for how long. I am glad you discovered some of the many other activities available in and around Beech Mountain to make for an enjoyable Spring Break from Florida.
Thank you for your kind words about how comfortable the Aspen Ski Loft was with all of the furnishings. And thank you for your kind words about being responsive and easy to work with. We want to make sure you and all of our guests have everything that is needed for a great experience.
Thank you again for staying at the Aspen Ski Loft, thank you for writing such a great review, and thank you for taking such good care of the Aspen Ski Loft during your stay. You and your family are welcome to come stay again at the Aspen Ski Loft at Beech Mountain.

Very nice and scenic property and location
The property was exactly as described in the HomeAway database. All of the amenities were available and everything was clean and in good working order. The downstairs had working laundry facilities which came in handy after a day outside. The Roan National Park was very close by so we had an opportunity to walk a portion of the Appalachian Trail. We found the Red Brick Oven nearby for lunch and dinner as well as cafe's close by for breakfast. The owners were very prompt in all communications both before and after the rental process including contacting us the first day to ensure we were happy with the accommodations. The weather was not so good for skiing but a number of other options were available to make the stay enjoyable for our family. Lastly, the owners are pet friendly which was a help for us to bring our JJ along for the vacation. The downstairs are dedicated for relaxing, laundry and storing gear while the upstairs have the kitchen, bedrooms, a large family room with a view and bathrooms. The cove bed downstairs was a perfect compliment for our family.
Thank you Roger for staying at the Aspen Ski Loft, and thank you for writing such a great review! Michele and I really appreciate it!
Thank you for your kind words about how nice the Aspen Ski Loft was for you and your family, with all the amenities you needed for your stay.
We are glad you enjoyed Roan Mountain State Park, about 15 miles away. You should see it during May and June during the Rhododendron Festival!
Yes, the Brick Oven Pizza restaurant on Beech Mountain is within walking distance of the Aspen Ski Loft, and is one of my favorites!
Thank you for your kind words about contacting you on arrival to make sure you arrived safely and that everything is in good working order at the Aspen Ski Loft. We want you and all of our guests to have an enjoyable stay.
I am sorry the weather was not so good during your stay for skiing. We had an unusually warm and wet February. I am glad you and your family were able to take advantage of the many other activities that are available on and around Beech Mountain.
I am glad you were able to bring your dog with you, and thank you for keeping the Aspen Ski Loft so clean when you departed. You and your family are welcome to stay again at the Aspen Ski Loft!

Another fantastic stay, with improvements!
We stayed 3 nights to go skiing at Beech Mountain. This is our 3rd time staying at Aspen Ski Lift, and was the best! Roger remodeled both bathrooms since our last stay, which was very nice. We slept very comfortably and enjoyed cozying up near the pellet fireplace and watching tv as we winded down from a day’s worth of skiing. This place has everything to offer. Thanks Roger for letting us stay at your home!
Thank you Darren for staying for the 3rd time at the Aspen Ski Loft, and thank you for writing another great review! Michele and I really appreciate it!
We are so glad that you enjoy staying at the Aspen Ski Loft, and this was your best stay.
Thank you so much for your compliments about the bathrooms that have been completely remodeled, however our contractors and Michele should be the people that deserve the credit. We have great builders, plumbers, and electricians which did a fantastic job on the construction, and Michele is the chief decorator. Yes, the new bathrooms are quite nice!
Yes, having the wood pellet fireplace is great! A real wood fire that is controlled by the thermostat, and all the heat stays in the living room rather than going up the chimney like with an old-fashioned log fireplace - - and you don't have to bring in logs from outside!
Thank you so much for again taking such good care of the Aspen Ski Loft. You and your family are welcome to come again when ever you want!
Thank you again for staying at the Aspen Ski Loft for the 3rd time, and thank you again for writing such a great review!
