In the winter watch the top surfers in the world compete for the Triple Crown title. You may even see them surfing right out in front of the house.
Enjoy a bike ride down the bike path which is located right out side of the property. Bikes can be rented by the day or week on the North Shore and can be delivered to the house for you.

E komo mai. Welcome to my beach house. My home has been in my family since the 1930's when my Great Uncle Bill purchased it for our weekend getaways in the country where we could all be together..
My Great Aunt and Uncle, Grandmother, Mom and Dad and myself packed up almost every Friday evening after work and headed to Sunset Beach. We worked in the yard while Daddy would spearfish in front of the house for our dinner! Fish, eel, octopus, crab, lobster were very plentiful then and we enjoyed them all. In the early days we picked up a block of ice in Haleiwa for our icebox and kerosene for our lanterns. We played cards in the evening and made bonfires on the beach. Sometimes we would go down to Shark's Cove or Rocky Point to gather the sea salt that dried in the small lava ponds there. I remember as a small child hearing the train coming and running down the driveway where oftentimes the conductor would toss us a pineapple when we waved aloha. There is a walking/biking trail between Ke Nui Road and Kamehameha Highway where that sugar train used to run. I now enjoy my morning and evening walks there.
The many shade trees on the property are cocoanut, milo, kamani, kou, kukui, pua wai, hau, hala, and kamani haole, all of them native to Hawaii.
You will feel a lot of history here. Please enjoy the home, yard, beach and ocean. Respect them all and you will be rewarded with your own memories.

Amazing location. Charming Hawaiian style home.
The North Shore is a great place to vacation. We would stay at this house again because of the location. Knowing that the house needs a lot of deffered work.
My wife and I are celebrating our 25th anniversary this year and decided to spend it in Hawaii. We've always stayed on Maui but this trip decided to stay on Ohau for the first week before heading to Maui for the second week. We prefer the quieter side of things so staying in or even near Honolulu and Waikiki was of no interest so we started looking at the North Shore. We found our dream vacation place only an hour north.
We could not be more pleased with the decision!!! Chaney and Myles made the booking and arrival so easy and the house and location was exactly as expected. No frills was no problem. We wanted a place where we could completely relax...and found that the few times we did leave the house we were anxious to get back to it because it was so peaceful. We had thought about doing some touristy things but decided to spend most of our time...at the beach house.
The beach was literally in your face and only a few steps down from the lanai to the sand although the vegetation growing between the two gave very nice privacy. The surf was up for this time of year with swells at 10'-12' at least. Surfers were taking advantage of it and we would sit there and take it all in. We walked the beach every morning, stopping at Ted's Bakery for breakfast a few of those times...which is a must. Again, no frills but oh so good. In fact the nicest meals we had were either cooked at the house, Ted's (breakfast and leftovers) or one of the many food trucks.
And, as everyone mentions, the outdoor shower is amazing. We never used the one inside.
With the sunsets, the views, the sound of the surf and feeling like we were away from it all was more than we could have asked for. We would definitely go again, and stay a little longer next time.

It was like a dream! Waking up on the beach hearing the sound of the crashing waves. It's so cute and homey. Loved all the little daybeds to relax. We loved being able to walk out front to surf or cruise on the beach. The outdoor shower was great! We can't wait to come back!!
We had a wonderful week at Sunset Beach. For us it was the right balance of Hawaiian charm and location, location, location! While the house itself is 'rustic' it served our purposes beautifully. The bedrooms were comfortable and bedding clean. The towels were clean, if a little worn. Where the place lacked in high end comfort emenities, it scores a 10+ in uniqueness. The lani was killer, with a view parralell to none; surfers out there everyday, rainbows, mountains, sunsets, it had it all. We spent the majority of our time out there, just soaking it all in. The outdoor shower was awesome, never did use the one in the house, so we can't speak to that. The shed had a great supply of beach items, chairs, body board, umbrella etc. The listing stated there were two bikes, we did not find any, but didn't feel the need to ask for them. Walking the beach and swimming daily was plenty of exercise for us. The current out front in the water is something to be mindful of. It was fine for our party as my son and husband are highly skilled swimmers that take precautions. It is no place for novice swimmers. The current picks you up and moves down the beach in a hurry. I enjoyed it as well.
Our host was great and took care of our needs. The kitchen was ok, the oven door handle popped off one evening. We were able to get it back on thankfully. As I said the trade off for amazing, unparalleled, spectacular location is 'rustic', old world charm. While there is a great array of kitchen items, many are in poor condition, or depending on the last guest, may not have been as clean as you would have. (No dishwasher). Again, not a big issue for us, but good to be aware of.
The Internet was great. We did not watch TV, but it was there. The neighborhood seemed safe and we received many 'hang loose' waves when out. People came and went on the beach as there is a public access about three houses away on both sides of the property. Saturday and Sunday had the most people, a number of families, a beach fire Friday night, but during the week it was mostly surfers. Free entertainment! But not crowded.
We ventured out both directions, as far as Turtle Bay one day (quickly came back to our own paradise) and into Haleiwa several times. Cute town, nice restaurants and food trucks, all low key and relaxed. Waimea falls is beautiful and the farmers market nice. Wish it were earlier in the week, it would be a nice place to provision.
If you want old Hawaii, this is your place!
The most perfect beach house on the planet, we've been 4 or 5 times now and we love this home and beautiful stretch of the North Shore more every time we go! And the Manager and her husband are a delight, we simply couldn't ask for a better experience end-to-end. LOVE.
