About the property

Completely private studio apartment in small brownstone building.

The Metropolitan Room, as it is known, is an elegantly furnished studio is up one flight of stairs in a 1881 brownstone townhouse. The four poster queen size bed is extremely comfortable and laden with pillows and a comforter. The south facing windows fitted with folding shutters and venetian blinds look out over West 82nd Street. The kitchen is small but efficient with a brand new LG stainless steel refrigerator. There is a professional quality hot plate that can cook anything. An additional hotplate is available upon request. The charming wallpapered bathroom is has a bathtub and features both a standard shower and a hand held shower.

There is a new flat screen television behind the shutters of the armoire. The big desk has plenty of room to set up a computer and work. There are two leather club chairs facing the fireplace (non-working). A commodious dresser and big closet will fit all your clothes. Hangers are provided, of course. The floor is carpeted in a wool berber and there is an arts and crafts wallpaper wainscotting around the room.

We are a married couple who live on the ground floor, one of us is an architect, the other a composer of classical music. We both work from home. We will greet you upon your arrival and are happy to guide you to features of the neighborhood. The building is extremely quiet and secure, as is the tree lined block in the heart of the Upper West Side. You are just steps from the greatest museums, shopping and entertainment in the world.

Beautiful vintage brownstone apartment in quiet Upper West Side neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

From our greeting by Warren and Susan to The Metropolitan studio, our visit to the beautiful vintage apartment was perfect. The neighborhood is quiet and situated between bustling Amsterdam and Columbus streets, chock-a-block full of shopping and eating establishments...and our hosts are not shy about recommendations either And for those, like us, who relish public transportation, getting around the 5 boroughs was a piece of cake.

Bring along another couple and they can have The Dutch apartment right across a shared hallway.

We will go back and revel in the Upper West Side in the shadow of the Natural History Museum in the springtime.

Great place!!!

  • 5 of 5

The location is fantastic -- upper West Side, restaurants, grocery stores, boutiques everywhere, equidistant from Central Park West (subway there) and Broadway (subway there). It's a studio that has everything one needs and doesn't feel cramped: good bed, lots of light, lots of drawer and closet space, small but totally adequate kitchenette with quality utensils, pots, crockery, basic appliances, full fridge; TV, 2 comfy easy chairs, and more than adequate basic supplies. Susan and Warren are great hosts. Wonderful!

Wonderful long autumn weekend with friends!

  • 5 of 5

We had the most wonderful long weekend this past week in New York City as did our friends who stayed in Warren's other rental across the hall from us. Warren was absolutely wonderful and fielded our questions always promptly and professionally. This apartment is located in a lovely old brownstone on the UWS and it is absolutely beautiful. We have rented many apartments for years from VRBO and this has undoubtedly been the most well-appointed apartment we have ever rented. Warren has thought of absolutely everything to include in these apartments from reliable wi-fi, to fluffy soft robes and an iron, extra pillows and blankets, and he even took it a step further by graciously supplying us with a starter of milk, juice, and coffee! We are very picky when it comes to bed and bathroom linens and these apartments are set with high quality sheets and towels making the already comfortable bed even more inviting. The apartment itself is incredibly quiet, clean, convenient, and beautifully furnished. For people unfamiliar with NYC, the Upper West Side is a safe and beautiful neighborhood with its own special charm. If you can picture the beautiful old brownstones with pumpkins lining the steps, autumn leaves, and a blue sky above, you will have envisioned the street where this apartment is located. It is the ultimate arrangement when traveling alone or with another couple who want to stay in the other unit. Without a doubt, when we return to NYC this will be our home of choice! Thank you, Warren, for a wonderful stay, for all of your kindness, and for a beautiful apartment--you really made us look great to our friends of 45 plus years who had never visited the city, and who loved their apartment across the hall and also can't wait to return.

As first time visitors to New York City this was an excellent location for us to explore the city. The apartment is compact but well equipped and comfortable. The owners and their tenants are welcoming and helpful.

The Upper West area is historically beautiful, felt safe and is well serviced with restaurants, delicatessens, grocery stores and subways making access to anywhere in the city easy.

Only 2 blocks from Central Park made it even more perfect.

We will definitely be planning a return trip to this wonderful city and would not hesitate to rebook this apartment.

Love it! Can hardly wait to return!

Excellent location, fantastic pleasant hosts, comfy beds, beautiful antiques, close to Zabars, lots of local restaurants and shops, and two subway lines. Perfect for exploring the city and returning to a friendly neighbourhood that feels like home away from home.

Would give more stars if we could

  • 5 of 5

This was our 3rd stay, first 2 in the Dutch Room, this time in the Metropolitan Room. Both wonderful.... quiet, well- thought out amenities, lots of character, including furniture, with no sacrifice of comfort, including cozy beds, compact but well-equipped kitchens. There might be a bit more overall space in Dutch, tho' prefer Metropolitan kitchen. Perfect UWS location, so nice to come back to relax in our little oasis. It's dangerously close to addictive breakfasts at Barney Greengrass, & fave food shopping at Zabar's. Convenient walks to subways to access & explore the rest of the city, an easy walk to beautiful Central Park West to exercise, amble, hang out. A very do-able walk or ride to Lincoln Center. We have been especially happy from the time of booking through our stay with the gracious hospitality of both the hosts & their assistants. We just left & already looking forward to when we can stay again.
