Overview

About the property

Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

Our pied-de-terre is an inviting home away from home. The library is well supplied with a wide array of guide books, engaging novels set in Paris, and books on the history of Paris and France. (Registered guests are welcome to review the book inventory prior to their trip enabling them to save space in their luggage by leaving books behind.) The new furniture was specially selected to meet the needs of our guests. Lounging in the arm chair and ottoman is the perfect way to recuperate after a long day on your feet in Paris. The bedroom is on the quieter courtyard side of the building where it's common to awake to the soft sounds of birds singing. Two of the best boulangeries (bakeries) in Paris are just a block or two away. The open air market at the end of the street is in the Top Ten in Paris. Vibrant nightlife is just a block away on rue Roquette and other nearby streets. Many top spots in Paris are just minutes away by foot. Place des Vosges, home to French kings and Victor Hugo, is 8 minutes away, Centre Georges Pompidou is 15, and Notre Dame Cathedral is just 20.

Traveling light and needing to do laundry? A laundromat is just around the corner and has instructions in English. Looking for a unique French taste? The absinthe bar, La Feé Verte, is the next block over and has a suite of their own absinthes. Intrigued by the past? Père Lachaise is one of the most famous cemeteries in the world and has the graves of a wide variety of famous people including: Honoré de Balzac, Sarah Bernhardt, Frédéric Chopin, Yves Montand, Jim Morrison, and Marcel Proust. Enjoy people watching? The Place Bastille is vibrant and full of surprises, from marching strikers (often friendly) to the thousands of rollerbladers streaming through on various Friday nights. The summer solstice offers music and live performance all over Paris, but it's especially lively throughout the Bastille where the whole neighborhood becomes a festival.

About Jan

Learning French has been nearly a life long hobby starting in junior high and continuing through college. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine myself owning an apartment in Paris! It's truly been an enriching experience, especially introducing my husband and friends to the richness of the city of Paris and the French culture.

Jan purchased this apartment in 2010

Why Jan chose Paris Arr. 11 (Bastille)

We fell in love with the Bastille area. The apartment is also very close to the Marais and all that it has to offer. Business and family bring us to Europe on a regular basis so having a home to stay in was very important to us. We're delighted to share it with friends, both old and new.

What makes this apartment unique

We are building a collection of art at the apartment and love sharing it with our guests. It provides a unique character to our place. Two of the pieces are by friends who had a gallery in Paris.

Great Central Location especially for the Marathon

  • 5 of 5

Where this apartment is located, Bastille area, is a great location to be centrally located but NOT be in the middle of tourist areas!!! The restaurants are great and reasonably priced and friendly. The shops (grocery store across the street) are close and the shop staff are oh so helpful! And the apartment is EXACTLY what the pictures show. The owners will bend over backwards to help you with activity ideas if you ask (they also have a great notebook that references all kinds of things). We booked it for the Paris Marathon (my husband runs not me). The Bastille is a 5 minute walk from the apartment. He ran past that point 2 times which made my life viewing him amazingly easy. Imagine getting up on Sunday, the day of the race, and having the Sunday open air market on the way to the race AND an open air art market in the same area! I went and watched him on the first leg , then I strolled through the art market and went back to watch him the 2nd time. Then I bought dinner and fresh bread and a pastry to die for at the open air market and walked the 2 blocks home - all before lunchtime! Have stayed here before and I highly recommend this apartment.

Just Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

This apartment has everything you need and is in an ideal location. It is in easy walking distance to all sorts of places, such as the Marais, Pere Lachais cemetery, and metro stops. The Louvre, Notre Dame and other destinations are a bit of a longer (but still doable) walk or an easy metro ride. There is a fantastic farmer's market twice a week at the end of the street. We particularly liked the neighborhood, which is diverse and more low-key than some of the more touristy areas. Cafes were plentiful and reasonable! The apartment itself is quite comfortable and has everything you need, including a full library of Paris guide books in English. We'll be back!

Great location!

  • 5 of 5

Great place in a terrific and convenient location. Our best meal was a block away at Cafe l'Industrial and our favorite bakery was across the street from there. Metro is 2 blocks away and the outdoor market running above the metro line is wonderful. We LOVED the whole experience!

Cozy pied-a-terre away from the crowds

  • 5 of 5

This well-equipped one bedroom (plus a comfy pull-out sofa) has everything you need for a delightful stay in Paris. We were there for ten days and loved it! You're close to Le Marais but not in it, so it's quieter and less frenetic than staying in the heart of this charming neighboring district. There are two good bakeries within a 2 minute walk of the apartment (try the orange one for baguettes and the blue one for pastry), a Carrefour City supermarket across the street, several cafes and bistros nearby, and the charm of feeling like you live there. The apartment has a modern bathroom with a good shower (not that common in Paris!) and is homey and comfortable. Plus you'll enter through a classic inner courtyard and have only one flight of stairs to climb with all that wine you'll be buying from the good wine shop down the street. The host is wonderful and has thought of everything -- and makes it all so easy! We'll be back for sure.

Great location; pleasant host

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is small but well-equipped and quiet on the bedroom side. It is in a great neighborhood near la Bastille and its fantastic open air market market on Boulevard Richard Lenoir. It is near rue de la Roquette and its cafés and clubs and a pleasant walk to the Marais. The host was pleasant to deal with and very conscientious and communications were timely and direct.

Great location in the Bastille area!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first trip to Paris and we couldn't have asked for a better location to stay in! Located right outside the Bastille area, the apartment was easily accessible by public transportation, including the Velib bike rental system. We found this to be the best way to explore Paris, as we were within a few miles of all of the cities beautiful sights.

The apartment suited our needs during our stay. It was nice to have a kitchenette to prepare breakfast and dinner. The refrigerator allowed us to store food to bring with us as we explored the city. There is a portable ac unit, which we found beneficial, but we did have to figure out how to set it up next to the window. With a little creative thinking it was doable. We were concerned about smelling smoke when booking the apartment but had no issues.

Overall, we had a great time and would definitely stay at this apartment again!
