The Coquina - Come Find Out Why It's a Favorite:
The Coquina is a small, well-maintained community with 42 residences, only half of which are available for rental. Guests make The Coquina their home away from home year after year. The building exterior, stairways and balconies were all completely redone a few years ago. The Coquina owners take good care of their property and ask that their guests do too! It is a v-shaped complex and our condo is the second from the North end--there is absolutely nothing between you and the beach!
The Coquina offers a large sparkling blue swimming pool, a smaller one for kids, and an oceanfront deck with comfortable lounges, deck chairs and umbrellas. The pools were resurfaced in 2014. Picture yourself lounging around the pool with the dunes, the wide sandy beach, and the surf all right there!
For a change of pace, watch the sunset over the Intracoastal Waterway while you grill your meal and dine on the building's shared upper deck. The condo also offers tennis and basketball courts.
Crescent Beach: Room to Play!
Surfing, boogie boarding, sailboarding, surf fishing, sea kayaking, bicycling, jogging, kite flying, frisbee and football, shell collecting, exploring--Crescent Beach is open for all these activities but never seems crowded. Crescent Beach is nesting ground to sea turtles, so stay on the lookout and you might see some hatch. Dolphins are also often seen jumping the waves in the distance, and birders can observe many different species of shore birds.
Historic St. Augustine is Minutes Away:
St. Augustine offers many options for visitors. You can take the trolley to explore the city which is full of history, great shopping and excellent restaurants. You can simply stroll the old streets with colonial Florida architecture and discover boutiques, sweet shops, street musicians, and artists, or visit the many tourist attractions including trolley tours, horse and buggy tours, the Old Spanish Fort, the Living History Museum and the Colonial Quarter developed by University of Florida, The Alligator Farm, Ripley Believe It Or Not Museum, evening 'ghost' tours, The Fountain of Youth, Potters Wax Museum, Lightner Museum, Flagler College with its beautiful towers and Tiffany stained-class windows, The Old Jail, The Oldest Schoolhouse, and the Lighthouse and Museum, just to name a few!
Great Restaurants Up and Down the Beach!
You might imagine that there are lots of really good seafood restaurants in St. Augustine and the beaches--and there are. Most are casual and each have a distinctive flavor and style--O'Steen's for fried shrimp, Saltwater Cowboys for fresh catch and frozen drinks right on the Intracoastal at sunset, Oasis for a beachy sports bar with fried shrimp, fish sandwiches, and key lime and peanut butter pie (my daughter's favorite), Florida Cracker Cafe in the historic district for grouper sandwiches and salads and live guitar music after dark, and beachside Sunset Grill for local color, blackened catch of the day, salads, and Minorcan red clam chowder, just blocks from the condo.
There's Paula's for burgers right next to the surfboard rental, Napoli's Pizza for New York style pizza delivered to your door, and Red Frog and McToad's for breakfast or casual dining. In St. Augustine the Columbia Restaurant serves authentic Spanish cuisine in a very memorable atmosphere, La Pentola serves continental cuisine to rave reviews, and Casa Monica hosts a wonderful Sunday brunch and a martini bar. All are located in the historic district. For cocktails on the water, try Conch House and Resort or Kingfish Grill. Both are located alongside marinas, so you can watch the sailboats and yachts. Gypsy Cab Co. continues to please steak lovers.
There are also many more casual restaurants and bars along the A1A bypass along St. Augustine Beach.
There are many other restaurants for steaks, Italian, or vegetarian fare. Find your favorite or pick up some fresh shrimp or fish and grill it yourself on one of the upper deck grills. Expect to eat well while you are here!
Nature, Fishing and Golf at its Best:
Active visitors enjoy boating, sailing, sea kayaking or guided kayak and boat excursions along the Intracoastal Waterway, hiking through the many nature preserves and trails, bird-watching, bike rental, surf board rental and lessons, deep sea fishing and jet skiing. Rent a bike or a surfboard nearby, join a kayaking ecotour, hike through the gardens at Washington State Oaks, fish off Flagler Pier or at Matanzas Inlet, or visit Marineland Research Center to see more marine life up close. Don't miss the climb to the top of the Old Lighthouse--the view is well worth the effort!
Numerous highly-rated golf courses are open to our guests. The St. Augustine area is truly a golfer's paradise.
Major Area Attractions:
Crescent Beach is close to Orlando and its theme parks, Jacksonville, and Daytona Beach, all of which have airports convenient for out of town visitors.
