Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for the loan of your wonderful house this past weekend. My entire family, and most importantly my mother, all enjoyed the weekend very much. The hot tub and the ping pong table were much used, and my family enjoyed walks to the beach as well as just hanging out for some good bonding time. Hopefully, we can return again some other time; we will certainly keep it in mind for another family get-together.

Great Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed at this beautiful home twice with both sides of our family. It's a great way to get everyone together and enjoy the relaxing sea air and views. The kids love the ping pong table in the garage, the hot tub and searching for golf balls in all the sea grass in the back! We loved being able to walk down to the beach, a nice stroll for our 4 yr. old and 84 yr. old. The relaxing coastal vibe and cool weather is perfect for golfing and a quick drive around the bay to the peninsula has a breathtaking trails and the best climbing tree ever! The house is beautifully appointed and perfectly clean, I really couldn't ask for more. The two alcove beds were a hot commodity amongst the children, they LOVED them. The size and set up of the house, the beauty of the home, and the location make it the perfect getaway for people of all ages.

Incredible place!

  • 5 of 5

We had a family spring break here with 11 people and our dog (clean and well trained) and absolutely loved it! The photos on VRBO just don't do this place justice. View from the back patio is a stunning 180 degree view of the ocean where you can see from Pt. Reyes all the way to Bodega Harbor. The place needs a little TLC here and there but other than some minor repairs and upkeep, this house is fantastic. We will definitely be coming back!

Helpful notes:

- My aunt is disabled and my mother in law has bad knees. Both stayed on the main floor and if you have anyone who has trouble getting around, you can have them stay on the main floor and it's a maximum of two steps up or down to get anywhere they'd need to go. Not wheelchair friendly but certainly manageable for anyone who is not in a wheelchair

- Beach is 10 minutes max and it is a spectacular morning walk. This is another thing the listing doesn't do justice. We walked at least 90 minutes on the beach every day...just incredible location

- This house is roughly 10 minutes drive from Spud Point marina so anything you would need that is local is within 10 minutes drive

- No major supermarkets anywhere nearby so if you need any specialty items, bring them yourself

- Listing doesn't make this clear but the house comes with a set of towels for everyone, three rolls of TP per bathroom and I think two rolls of paper towels. Good idea to bring beach towels, extra TP, etc.

- The sleeping alcoves are actually elevated cut outs in the walls of two of the upstairs bedrooms. They are seriously cool and our kids all battled over who got to sleep in the alcoves.

- We saw several whales from the back patio so keep an eye out for that

- Firewood is provided (at least it was for us)

- The ping pong table is pretty banged up so if you are a serious player, bring your own rackets and balls. Our kids had a blast but don't plan on practicing for the olympics :-)

- Bring your own shampoo but the bathrooms have some soap

- Parking is very good/easy

- The WiFi here is very good compared to other rentals we've had

Perfect Weekend

  • 5 of 5

We recently rented this house for my 50th birthday celebration...our weekend was absolutely perfect. The house is full of light, tastefully and not overly-decorated and very comfortable for our part of 6 couples. The kitchen is fully equipped (except for coffee filters which we couldn't find)…plenty of dishes, wine glasses, etc., a table that accommodated 12. Views were beautiful and we enjoyed using the table on the patio at breakfast and lunch. The beach is a leisurely 10 minute walk. Of course, Bodega Bay has so much to offer…be sure to stop by the Wildflour Bakery for a cup of coffee and one of their delicious scones in Fulton on your way to zip-lining in Occidental…a forest experience you shouldn't miss. Back to the house…pictures were representative, house was clean on arrival and we would definitely recommend it… we loved it and I'm sure we'll be back!

We'll Be Back!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay couldn't have been any better! Our two families (4 adults and 4 kids) had a wonderful time here. We're very picky, yet we were pleased with everything. The listing description and photos of this beach house were right on~ It's in a great location, private, at the end of a cul-de-sac right on the golf course with lovely ocean views. The house is beautifully landscaped with lush exotic plantings all around, and sits next to open space. It was very clean, tastefully decorated, with comfortable furnishings, and actually, now that I think about, the photos don't do it justice. The beds were very comfy with quality, fluffy warm down duvets and soft sheets, and like I said, we're all pretty discerning! We all loved having a flat screen TV in our rooms too. We ate in much of the time because the kitchen was very efficient and equipped with everything we needed. Lots of space around the dining table and breakfast bar.

An easy trail near the house leads to Doran Beach, which we think is one of the nicest wide sandy beaches on the Sonoma Coast. We spent lots of time shelling, wading and kite flying. With four active kids (not to mention the four adults) continually playing in the sand and water, having a washer and dryer in the house was a bonus too.

Although we had planned to venture out, we ended up staying in one misty day because we didn't feel the need to leave. We made a fire in the wood stove and just sat around reading, playing games and ping pong, and enjoying the hot tub and views.

Although we were content to just stay in and cook "at home" for most meals, we do have a few recommendations: For breakfast or lunch, you'll definitely want to try Howard's in Occidental. We also stocked up on bread and baked goods at the Wildflower Bakery in nearby Freestone. Schedule a wine tasting at the Freestone Winery next door too. The crab chowders at Spud Point Crab Co can't be missed, and then Patrick's Salt Water Taffy on the drive back tops it off. We had a great dinner at Blue Water Bistro, the golf course restaurant right in the Bodega Harbor community, and another enjoyable meal at Terrapin Creek. The owners gave us lots of good recommendations for attractions and amenities throughout the area, too numerous to list!

We highly recommend this lovely beach home getaway!
