About Lisa Sumby
I have lived in Florida for most of my life, my family moved to Pembroke Pines when I was in grade school. Now 42 years later my husband and I still live in Pembroke Pines. We have been married 30 years and have 2 grown children. Our 28 year old son is married and lives in Tampa, and our 24 year daughter is in Pembroke Pines. We love meeting at Fort Myers Beach where our entire family including our Labradors can relax and have a great vacation.
Lisa Sumby purchased this House in 2003
Why Lisa Sumby chose Mid Island
My husband Steve and I both grew up in the Fort Lauderdale area. My parents would take short vacations to the "West Coast" this Fort Myers/Naples area was a short 2 hour drive, but when you were at the West coast beaches it felt like you were in the Caribbean. After visiting this area year after year with our family we decided that it would be an area we would love to own a home in. After looking at what seemed like 100 homes we found our Beach and Bay Beauty. The name says it all, This house sits on a quiet street between the Beach and Bay. The Private Beach access and the private Bayside Park were bid factors in our choosing this house. We actually own a piece of the beach and the bay and would never need to go to a public beach or worry where to park a boat.

Great location - easy walk to the beach
The property was in a great location and had all the comforts of home! The access to the bay for fishing was great, as well! The property owner was nice to communicate with!
Thank You for the 5 star review. I am so happy your family enjoyed the week you spent at our Beach And Bay Beauty. I hope you made many lasting memories, and took lots of great pictures!
Clean, comfortable and a great location.
We stayed at this beach house for a friends reunion. The property was very nice and perfect for our small group of 5 women. We liked that we could choose between the beach, the bay side tiki hut, or time poolside.
There is a store nearby and a close access to a Trolley Stop.
The house was very clean and had everything we needed.
Always a great time with great memories!
We have stayed here multiple times at this wonderful house in Fort Myers over the years. We love the pool and the short walk to the beach as well. If you prefer to drive down to the beach there are parking passes you can use. The neighborhood and beach are very clean, quiet, and relaxing. We enjoy going to the different restaurants that are just a short drive away. We will definitely be returning!
House is ok, but beware of surprise charges and complicated booking
We visited for 10 days in late November/early December. We enjoyed our stay in Ft. Myers Beach (great beach for kids), and the house is fine for the price, but we would not recommend the house, primarily due to the surprise charges and the lack of pool heat despite being advertised as a heated pool (more below).
Pros: Screened in porch is the highlight – large with a nice deck & even a TV outside. Pool was nice size & screened in (if it was heated), good value for location, responsive owner.
1. On the website, the location is listed as having a heated pool. On Day 3 we finally called because the pool was cold. The owner’s response was “I didn’t know you wanted it heated!” (In November, of course I want it heated!) If you dive deep enough and really make an effort to find it, you’ll discover she wants to charge for the pool to be heated. Turns out, the heat was broken anyway! I didn’t get any money back and we couldn’t use the pool.
2. After booking on homeaway, the owner sent the contract and added a $200 Thanksgiving fee.
3. The owner tried to take her “Homeaway/Credit Card fees” out of my deposit. I got the money back after disagreeing, but just another place she tried to take additional money.
1. We went back and forth several times because she didn’t get the numbers added up correctly on the contract. Not a major deal, but an inconvenience.
2. She required that the contract be notarized. Not a big deal, but an inconvenience. I asked my notary whether this was normal and she indicated she’d never seen a vacation rental require notarization.
Minor Maintenance. The house is “lived in.” Nothing major and for the most part, it is fine. Just several minor maintenance issues – holes in screen around pool, screen door for pool broken, rusty shower fixtures & curtain, refrigerator internal leak, torn sheet.
Other: Note that the furniture includes a lot of glass – glass coffee table, end tables, kitchen table. Just a watch-out if you have kids.
I do not believe that any of is my listing is misleading. The pool heating fees along with the holiday fees are stated in the rates section on the page. The house is located in South West Florida pool heat is not used often. Most travelers ask what the pool temp is at the time of their arrival. The Pool hearer was fixed as soon as we realized that it was not working. Credit card fees were a misunderstanding and were returned in full. I do not build them in to the rates as that would not be fair to people who do not use charge cards. The online booking is not easy for some travelers to use; this anonymous renter was one of them. I was at the house prior to her arrival I am unaware of any rusty fixtures and I my self replaced the shower curtain. I tell all renters to call me when they arrive at the to let me know all is good at the house or if there is anything wrong Anonymous never called to let me know about the problems when they arrived so I can only assume the rip in the sheet accrued as they were staying at the house, as did the screen rip. As you can see in the pictures the glass tables are not anything that would be a problem to children. If I were able to rate my renters this anonymous one would get a U.P for unhappy person.
Excellent place to stay
I will certainly recommend this place to friends and family visiting the area in the future. The house was very clean and well equipped. Everything was as advertised. The beach access was very close and convenient. It was close to the downtown area and there was a lot of restaurant choices. My family and I had a very pleasant stay. Loved the wrap around patio and the screened in pool. Lisa was always very accommodating and very flexible about check in times.
Thank you so much, we look forward to having you return year after year.
Great home, great location.
My family and I had a great time at this home. Home was well put together and clean when we arrived. Kids loved the pool. Neighborhood was nice and quiet. Very short walk to a more private area of the beach which was nice, not to mention a very short drive to Publix and plenty of good eating. Lisa was great to work with, would definitely stay again if I were to come back to Ft. Myers Beach!
This Key West style 3/2 sleeps 8. Located on Gulf Island Drive perfectly placed between the beach and the bay. Walk to the west and you are at the private Beach Pavilion walk to the east and you are at the private Bay Side Park. Great location minutes from famous Fort Myers Beach Pier, “Time Square' and close to great restaurants, shopping and golf. Rent boats, Jet Ski Para-sail or just sit on the sand and watch the dolphins play as the sun sets
