Little House in the Big Mountains

Bedrooms 2
Property type house

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 5)

This casita was our home for 15 years,(we built it in 1995) now it is the guest house to our newly built big house on the same property. We are at the end of a dead end road with 360 views. The house is two stories, with two bedrooms upstairs one with a queen and the other with a bunk bed with a single on top and double below. There is only 1 bathroom and it is upstairs. There is a gate at the top of the stairs to keep wee ones from tumbling down. It has radiant heat and the passive solar will knock your socks off. It has an outdoor hot tub with a wall around it. We live next door approx. 50 yards away with our 8 year old daughter and Rat Terrier Pancho(he is a dog, not a rat). The house is 850 sq feet and best suited for a couple with or with out kids. We are a 1.5 miles to Arroyo Seco, the jewel of Taos County, 9 miles from Taos Ski Valley, and 10 miles to the town of Taos.

About Doony Leeson

We are the owners of Taos Cow Ice Cream Co. in Arroyo Seco, and in the winter work up in the ski valley at the Hotel St. Bernard. We have an 8 year old girl keeping us in line and are a wealth of local knowledge. I was a raft guide and ski instructor for 10 years and my husband was a bicycle guide as well. We both grew up on the east coast and moved out here right after college, but have made Taos our home for almost 25 years.

Why Doony Leeson chose Arroyo Seco

We built this house after purchasing the land in 1994.We lived in it until we had too many visitors wanting to come visit all the time, so we built our current home on the same spectacular piece of property.

What makes this house unique

This house is in a great location if visiting Taos. We are just down the hill from the ski valley, so after a day on the slopes you can still catch the sunset and enjoy the hot tub and regain any warmth the ski valley has sapped. There are challenging mountain bike trails just out the driveway, and great hikes into the Rio Grande Gorge. This cozy little house is all you need after a day of high altitude exertion.

Loved It

  • 5 of 5

The listing was accurate, the property was clean and maintained, the owner was helpful and attentive, and we would recommend this property to anyone. Such a nice place to come back to after the days adventure.

We enjoyed our summer stay in Taos very much. There is so much to do: hike to Williams Lake, rafting, Manby hot springs, Taos Pueblo, Taos Plaza, Earth Ship Community, etc.

Thanks Doony!

Great location, great view!

  • 5 of 5

I loved staying here last Christmas. There was lots of windows letting in sunlight and large curtains guaranteeing privacy. Very well-built and snug house. Great owners who communicated well and answered our questions via email promptly. More importantly, their lovely daughter shared toys and books with our kiddos :)

Peaceful beauty

  • 5 of 5

There were no surprises when we arrived---all was as described in the listing. The house is in a quiet location with beauty all around, and the owners were very helpful. They sincerely wanted us to enjoy ourselves and have what we needed. The house is clean and well maintained, and the kitchen was nicely appointed. Outdoor activities, like hiking and biking, are nearby. We felt at home and found much to appreciate in our experience at the "Little House."

Great House Great Price

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here for Christmas. This is the best VRBO house we have stayed at yet! EVERYTHING you need is in this house. I did not have to improvise to make meals, everything was provided. Even a salad spinner. The radiant floors are great in the cold mornings too. Hot tub and views are extra-ordinary.
