About Janiece Sandwater

My name is Janiece ( my close friends call me Sandwater).I am a registered nurse and own an adult family home business in Birch Bay. This property appealed to me because of the swimming pool. I was born and raised in Florida so being in and around water has always been important to me. I bought the home in 2004 and finished raising my four beautiful children there.

When I am not at the guest house (located on the property) I am in Eastern Washington where I live in Curlew next to the Kettle River. During the winter months I am busy cleaning and maintaining my ski cabin in Mt. Baker where I have been renting to vacationers for more than 15 years. I enjoy meeting people and helping them enjoy a pleasant stay. Please let me know how your stay went and if I can improve anything for future guests. I always welcome reviews.

Janiece Sandwater purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Janiece Sandwater chose Washington State

This home is in a great location for lots of different interest that folks might have and offers easy access in and out of Bellingham without having to be right in town.

Enjoy fresh herbs from the garden at the rear of the house; mint for a Mojito, rosemary for chicken on the barbecue or oregano for pasta sauce.

This property was purchased because of the swimming pool. I wanted my kids to have a place to bring their friends for parties. Keeping my children safe and knowing what they were doing was my main motivation. My children are grown and now my grand kids are learning to swim in the pool (when guest are not at the property).

What makes this cottage unique

This home was built in the 1920's with updates and additions that make it unique and a bit quirky. There's is a horse farm across the street and it's fun to wake up and hear them running through the fields. Just a short walk down the road is a wildlife area with lots of birds and a beautiful view of Mt. Baker. Continue further up the road to a horse park with trails for a run or walk.

Sip some tea in the evening, read a book or enjoy a movie from the DVD library. The swimming pool can be enjoyed during the summer from around Memorial day until Labor Day depending on weather conditions.

The owner lives part-time in the small guest house located at the back of the property. You will enjoy all the privacy you desire, whether or not the owner is home.

Having a private swimming pool that you can enjoy all day during the summer or being able to go for an evening swim is priceless.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Easy to find, quiet and nicely set-up. My girlfriend and I had a relaxing stay. The dry sauna was a real treat. We look forward to our next get away. Thanks

Perfect place to relax

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect for our family of five with teenagers. The pool was amazing on this nice, hot Memorial Day weekend. We cooked in every meal and the kitchen was well stocked with all the tools necessary. Beautiful grill out by the pool made for some fun evenings. Loved being a little bit out of town with quick access when we went in to bike on Galbraith and Chukanut. The cozy cottage has super comfy beds for all. All in all a very nice weekend spent here!

Great Cottage with heated pool!

  • 5 of 5

Loved our stay! Cooked out on grill a couple of nights by the pool! Fence, shrubbery and trees around property provides privacy without hindering view of surrounding mountains. Cottage had new appliances and was very well-maintained. Backyard has herb garden, the owner let us harvest some of her lovely. fresh herbs. Really enjoyed meeting the owner; she had lots of suggestions of things to do/see locally. Cottage is out in a rural area, but is only 10 minutes from town/groceries. Highly recommend this cottage!

Great Home

  • 5 of 5

Spent several nights here while visiting our son at WWU. House is better than described with lots of room. The master bed was so comfortable and the home was very clean thru out. Also loved having the fenced back yard for our dog. We hope to come back in the summer when we can enjoy the pool! Thank you Janiece for sharing your home.

This property is located in the northern part of Bellingham about 5-6 miles from the mall and north Bellingham. Heading north takes you to Lynden, a Dutch themed town which is about 5 miles from the Canadian border.

Head east towards Mt. Baker for a scenic drive and fabulous hiking trails.

Head west to Ferndale where you'll find historic Hovander Park which is a working farm complete with farm animals and display gardens.

Bellingham to the south offers lots of parks where you can paddle boat, go on a whale watching trip, fly kites, canoe or kayak, walk the beaches or enjoy an afternoon of shopping.

The cottage is sandwiched between two golf courses, Raspberry Ridge to the north and Shuksan to the south.

A 10-20 minute drive will take you to one of 3 different casinos.

Enjoy the peacefulness of waking up to watch the nearby horses running in the fields or simply lay by the pool and read a book.
