About CHRIS GOETHALS
Our extended family owned 'the beachhouse' for many wonderful years. The eight children in the Goethals family spent each summer on the beach; doing summer reading, taking junior guard training, working at the local food shops, taking sailing lessons, fishing off the piers and just enjoying growing up in Newport. In 2001 when it looked like the house was going to leave our family my five children and myself decided we could not live without it and so we bought this very special home. We spent months putting the house back into it's original condition and have loved the gatherings we've had with all the families since purchasing '104'. It's a very special place, Newport Beach, with many exciting adventures awaiting you. We hope you enjoy the beauty of the Pacific, the charm of Newport Beach and your time at our home.

Why CHRIS GOETHALS chose Balboa Peninsula
We had spent many fabulous summers at 104 East Oceanfront during the time that our extended family owned the property. We chose to own a home in Newport beach because we could not imagine not spending large amounts of time each year at the beach. Newport is a very unique area with so much to do and if you don't want to get up and go there is nothing nicer than just sitting out in front on the beach watching the waves come in and seeing a porpoise or two navigate their way through the breakers. On weekends the ocean is alive with activity. Sail boat races, wave runners, body surfers and all with the Pacific Ocean as a backdrop.
What makes this House unique
The beauty of our property at Newport is that once you park the car the vacation takes care of itself. If the kids want to ride their bikes they can go for miles and miles without getting lost or in trouble. If you have a runner or an avid walker you have come to the right place. Miles in all directions to walk or run. Boating? Wave riding? Para-sailing? Canoeing?Have you ever traveled over to Catalina Island? Where can you have all this within walking distance? Suppose they are all off doing 'their thing'. No Problem, sit out on the front patio, enjoy the people passing by on foot, on roller blade, on pedaled surrey. If you are a people watcher, as I am, you've come to the right place. Want serenity ? Then just walk out to the beach and watch the activities out in the ocean. It's just as close to perfect as you can imagine. And if that's not enough information add these places : Hollywood and downtown LA, just one hour away. Fashion Island for shopping, South Coast Plaza, Bowers Museum, Discovery Science Center, Knott's Berry Farm, Angel Stadium, The Pond are all less than 30 minutes from you at Newport Beach!

It was a very nice house, the only things that could have been improved upon would be the comfort of the beds and more electrical outlets. Overall it was a great stay!
Great week in Balboa!
Our family of 3 couples with 2 infants had a TERRIFIC time at this home and it was just the right size and a great price. The location is fantastic - right on the boardwalk next to the sand, a 5-10 min walk to fun restaurants, the pier, activities like whale-watching and deep-sea fishing, and the carnival atmosphere of the Fun Zone. We had a few very minor maintenance issues and Chris and her repair guy took care of them immediately and were super responsive. The home is fairly dated with 20+ yr old furnishings and flooring, but has all the amenities you could possibly need and we were very comfortable. The A/C doesn't appear to be very efficient (took 5 hours to reduce the inside temp from 80 to 79 degrees when we arrived) but we had a nice breeze most of the week so we didn't need the A/C at all - that was mid-May, so I'm sure it will be needed soon if not already. We loved everything about our time here except one small item - the home construction next door resulted in constant hammering, sawing and drilling every morning at 7:15am and continued until about 5:00pm each evening (except Sunday). We had small children who were usually up by 7am so it didn't bother us too much, but if you're hoping to sleep past 7am, I think you're out of luck. My 2 small suggestions: a non-stick pan in the kitchen, and a keypad on the front of the garage to open from there rather than having to enter the locked back door every time - it was so inconvenient that we never parked in the garage (I know you've probably had many garage openers end up being taken by renters and that's why you don't provide one for use during the stay, but I think a keypad would help a bit). None of those small items diminished our experience and we would do it over again!
Wonderful kickoff to summer
We had a fantastic weekend stay here. Great location, deli and little cafe across the street, volleyball right in front and a short walk to the water! We only had five people, so we had plenty of space in this 4 bedroom home. Breakfast and coffee on the balcony were amazing, we barbequed carne asada and had dinner on the front patio. Perfect if you are a people watcher with this house being right on the boardwalk! The host was wonderful and communication was great. We truly enjoyed our family beach weekend!!
Thanks for your review Suzette. I'm so happy you enjoyed your time. PLEASE come back again!
Great location! Definitely a great home for a larger group.
We had a great time! Barbeque, balcony and overall set up was helpful for our family group of 9.
Thanks William for your kind review.PLEASE be sure to come again!
Family had a wonderful time
The house was perfect for our multigenerational family to get together and enjoy the beach and each other’s company. Nice neighbors and everyone made us feel part of the community for the few days we were here. We’ll be back!
Thank you so much for your kind review.PLEASE be sure to come back again!
Cute beach house
Just got back from this cute beach house. It has an incredible location and views that can't be beat. The Kitchen is nicely stocked and there is a nice balcony and patio. The reason I only gave it 3 stars is because there were some things that I found unusual for a vacation rental. We had to make all the beds when we arrived. I didn't realize this until we were ready to get into bed, which was annoying after traveling all day. There were no toiletries(except hand soap) in any of the bathrooms-not even soap for the shower. There were no instructions for any of the TV sets which were quite difficult to get turned on properly. The BBQ didn't work and when I told the owner she didn't seem very concerned or offer any solutions to the problem(we asked the neighbors to borrow theirs-which worked great). Finally, there was construction at the house next door that started at 7AM and went to 5PM, I was told when I booked that the house that the home next door was under construction but not to worry about it because it hadn't been worked on in a very long time....Of course I realize that Chris doesn't have any control over the construction project next door but when the framing contractor asked if he could plug into Chris's house(and pay for extra electricity) so we didn't have to listen to the generator for 10 hours a day she said no. This was unfortunate because that one thing would have really improved our stay. Overall we still had a great time, just a bit more attention to detail would have improved it...I love the Balboa Peninsula!
