About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Come to our house and find a completely renovated 2 BR/2 BA stilt house that overlooks a 40 ft. lap pool and 75 ft. canal front for your use. If you are a boater, you can dock it on the canal behind the house for your convenience. Up to 30 ft. You can also bring your jet ski or kayak. We have installed new solid wood kitchen and bathroom cabinets. New granite counter tops and travertine marble floors throughout house and bathrooms. All new SS appliances with spacious refrigerator and gas oven/stove, and a newly installed tankless water heater for an unlimited source of hot water. There are 2 TV's, a 55' in the living room area and a 46 ' in the master bed room.

It is 'our home away from home'. Located in a very quiet neighborhood, far enough from the sounds of traffic, and yet, close enough to all amenities to make it an easy outing i.e. groceries, fuel, marina, restaurants, and a dive shop and bait down the street. At anytime of day, you may also see the local 'KEY DEER' which inhabit the island of Big Pine.

Our home is located at mile marker 30. A 30 minute drive south gets you to Key West for a day of shopping, dining, and whatever else that tempts you. To the north, you can drive 15 minutes to Bahia Honda State park, rated one of the Florida Keys top beaches. If you like boating, whether you have your own boat or you rent one, or go on a charter, Looe reef is one of the best around for diving and snorkeling. If you like lobster, you can catch them close by. Just be sure to follow the laws and use all required gear. If you enjoy fishing, there are plenty of guides to take you.

At the end of the day, come back home and grill your catch and enjoy your favorite cocktail while remembering all the fun you've had. We guarantee you will return!!!

About John Arias

We are natives of south Florida. I have been working for the fire department for 15 years and my wife has raised our 4 children. We both enjoy the sun and boating. Fishing is something we have always enjoyed together as well.

John Arias purchased this house in 2010

Why John Arias chose Big Pine Key

We chose to buy here because we loved the area. It is quiet, on the water, close to diving and fishing, and Big Pine has all amenities required from a grocery store to a lumber store and everything in between. The locals are friendly and Big Pine has that small hometown feel.

What makes this house unique

It is very relaxing. It is close to our favorite things to do, and yet, far enough away that it is not very busy or crowded.

Awesome place

  • 5 of 5

We have rented this house two times (in 2013 and in 2016) and both times thoroughly enjoyed the area, the house, the amenities, and most of all the owner's assurance that everything was going well with our stay. I would highly recommend this to anyone .

Wonderful, relaxing vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this wonderful home for the month of March and it was perfect. John, the owner checked in to make sure we were comfortable. The home is clean, updated, and attractive. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need. (It even has a Cuisinart food processor-which I used to make a few things). The pool was an absolute treat to have, very clean, and great to do laps in. We watched the temp go from 76* to 86* by the end of the month. The neighborhood is quiet, very well kept and we enjoyed our daily bike rides through the many streets. We enjoyed watching the neighbor across the water do his laps in the canal and It was fun to kayak out to the bay and up and down the other canals. It was great to see the wildlife, especially the Key Deer who loved to munch on the vegetation in the wooded lot next door, and on the streets as we rode by on bikes. We visited Key West often as , it's an easy commute (approx 30-40 min) . Kiki"s Sandbar was a fun place to go for happy hour, and Square Grouper was our favorite restaurant. We got fresh fish and shrimp from Low Key Fisheries on Cudjoe Key to grill at the pool. There was plenty of space to spread out on the upper and lower decks and the pool chaise lounges were very comfortable. There almost always was a great breeze, so being outside was enjoyable and the "no see-ums" weren't bad at all. If we return to the Keys , we would definitely stay here again. This is in our top 5 VRBO vacations.

Great find in the Keys

  • 5 of 5

We just got back from Casa Jose, and we are missing it already. We enjoyed our stay even thought the weather was not the best this January. The house has everything that one could want, and John was very helpful and checked in to make sure we had everything. My wife loved the new appliances and said she wants a new washer and dryer like the ones in the home and now she says she wants our kitchen done over after seeing John's. We enjoyed the Kayak, and wished we had our own boat to fish and explore the waterways. We also enjoyed No Name Pub, Kiki's and Springers. The closeness to Key West was also a bonus, we went several times, and the Key deer were so nice, my wife wanted to bring one home.

Over the top!!!

  • 5 of 5

We have been visiting Key West for several years, this was by far the nicest home we have rented. The owners were exceptional to work with. The location and neighbors were awesome. The home was as awesome as it looks and has everything it says has and more. Would come back any time.

Coming back in September 2015!!!

  • 5 of 5

Words can not express how perfect Casa Jose is!!!! When John told us it had everything, I was hestitant to not bring the supplies I would usually take with me. But I should have listened to him and left everything behind!! It had all the spices and supplies I could have needed!! The house is decorated beautifully and so comfortable, you feel like you are in paradise! The pool was wonderful and docking our boat at our doorsteps couldn't be better! The neighbors are friendly and between John and them, we found our way around quickly and were lobstering and catching grouper etc. in no time. Looe Reef is so close, it is very easy to get to. We rode our bikes for miles and miles. The key deer were fun to see everywhere. We are looking forward to our trip this year to Casa Jose and are counting the days until we get there!! Everything was absolutely perfect!!!!!!!

One Month is not Enough

  • 5 of 5

December 2015

One month is not enough...we come down to the Keys every year for a month...but after a month at Casa Jose...we decided one month was not enough. Next year we will be staying for two months. It is a fabulous place ...palms outside your living room window..the sound is so relaxing...a hot cup of coffee on the porch...nope...it doesn't get any better. The pool is beautiful and inviting after a day on the water fishing...and the fishing...well after 3 weeks we had to make a run home to unload our freezer...and pick up our father in law for Christmas. The step down sea wall makes boat access a breeze...which is a huge plus. Now the inside...don't get me started..the kitchen is well equipped and makes cooking easy. The over sized washer and dryer...well no excuse for dirty cloths...love it. The home has quality comfortable furniture throughout. Another plus Owners/John and Lily are just a phone call away and very helpful. Definitely be back...hopefully this will be our home a way from home for years to come...it's amazing!!!!!
