About The Owner

I enjoy hiking, building, restoring old homes and surfing!

The Owner purchased this cottage in 2007

Why The Owner chose West Central

It is centrally located in a quiet neighborhood, yet walking distance to all of the action. People can stroll to the beach from the scenic river boardwalk located two blocks from this house. I also grew up just three blocks away, which gives me a great deal of sentimental attachment to the area. It's the cool part of town!

What makes this cottage unique

The unique benefits include close proximity to downtown and its many local eateries. The river, boardwalk, musical fountain and beach are steps away. The landscape, deck and backyard offer a private place to get away from it all at the end of the day...enjoy a fire in the firepit!

Guestbook comments from the manager

Thank you, Bill, for sharing your charming cottage with our family. We had a fabulous time.

Just what we needed

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time labor day weekend. This house was very open, roomy, and comfortable. Youngest child was 2 and oldest 19 and was great for all. Older girls loved the surprise of finding bicycles to ride couple blocks to town. Us older folks liked the patio set on the porch best. Close to everything and can walk everywhere.

Family vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our family really enjoyed our stay at Hilltop Breeze. The house is much larger than it looks in the pictures. Room sizes are great and the house is nicely decorated with comfortable furniture. The two full bathrooms are a bonus. The kids especially loved the upstairs bathroom shower. The bedroom set up was great for our family. The first floor master bedroom is very large and comfortable with a large closet. Our teenage son slept in the attractive basement room equipped with a day bed and futon. Bill even had a dehumidifier down there to make sure it was pleasant. We spent a lot of time on the deck and played outdoor games on the large driveway area. There is a large assortment of bikes, which we used to ride around town and to the beach. The house is in a great location-walking distance to everything. Bill came by to make sure that we had everything we needed. We will definitely stay here again the next time we visit Grand Haven.

Frequent Grand Haven Renter

  • 3 of 5

We have rented numerous places in Grand Haven for the past four years including single family homes and condos. We had an enjoyable stay at Hilltop Breeze but my family would rank our other rentals higher (and the cost was similar). I knew going in it was an older home but I was surprised at the condition of certain parts of the home such as the original windows (a few had cracks and were in need of a wash). The lower level was really not suitable for sleeping in part because one of the futons was bent and resulted in an uneven sleeping surface. Furthermore, it had a strong musty odor not uncommon of typical basements of that age and could have used a more thorough cleaning. My son ended up sleeping on the couch in the family room. Another surprise with this home was the inability to open any windows in the family room. We had mild weather and I wanted to enjoy the breeze but none of the family room windows could be opened. I stayed at a similar aged home on Franklin last year and it had a more complete upgrade - this property wasn't comparable. On a positive note, we loved the outdoor space and the rooms were spacious. The bathrooms were fine. The location was quiet but close enough to the action. Maybe we are more picky renters but I was surprised at some of the above items considering our prior experience at a similar price point. Based on our personal experience, my average rating may be generous.

Owner's Response: Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences at Hilltop Breeze. We want everyone to enjoy our home. Since you posted your comments, the futon has been replaced, a dehumidifier has been installed and the basement smells great! Also, our large, original windows are fully operational. Again, thanks for your comments. Bill Pushaw

coast guard fest

  • 5 of 5

Our family just returned from our 2nd stay at Hilltop Breeze. We had a wonderful time. This house is just like the pictures, it is clean and well kept. House is close to everything (bring your walking shoes). Bill is a great host and will quickly answer all your email. My family can't say enough good things about Hilltop Breeze, Bill and the Grand Haven area. We are looking forward to next year and our 3rd stay at Hilltop Breeze.

Grand Haven Holiday

  • 4 of 5

We recently enjoyed our third family vacation at Hilltop Breeze. The house is lovely and has everything you need. It's a great location for all of the downtown activity, walks to the pier, and our nightly treks to the Musical Fountain. The Lake Michigan beach, about a mile away, is spectacular! Thank you for more wonderful Grand Haven memories.

Family Wedding

  • 5 of 5

Our family just returned from our stay at the Hilltop Breeze in Grand Haven. We had a wonderful time, the house is beautiful and very well kept up. They have thought of everything you need during your stay (even the spices). The location couldn't be better, everything at your finger tips. I can't think of anything negative to put in this review. Our family will make a return trip next year.
