About the property

House, 2 Bedroom, 2 Bath, (Sleeps 5-7)

This rental consists of (1) two-bedroom unit. See my other VRBO listings to combine the two-bedroom unit and one of the one-bedroom units to make a three-bedroom package. Each private unit has its own kitchen, dining area, living area, and bathroom. What will your vacation be like? Read the prior guest reviews and see what my previous guests have said; tons of reviews and not one negative comment! I have to say 'this is the best rental on the island' given it has only received 5-star reviews and it has more reviews then any other rental property for two years in a row.

Included in the rental: high speed wi-fi, kayaks, bicycles, snorkel gear $15/week, corn bag toss, grills, washer-dryer, fishing poles, hand lines, a library of books, a library of movies, i-pod player, flashlights (for caves) and much more.

This stunning property is on the West End of Cayman Brac, BWI. Your tropical tranquil oceanfront vacation home is just feet from the Caribbean waters, and far away from the maddening crowds and the bustle of tourist-saturated areas. While you sunbathe you can enjoy the ocean breeze and be mesmerized by the turquoise Caribbean waters and sapphire surf only feet from your door.

Relax in the sun or shade, next to, or in the solar heated pool on the raised deck in a comfortable chaise lounger or under the beach cabana ten steps from the Caribbean waters.

Cayman Brac is a sister island to the highly developed island of Grand Cayman and has managed to remain unspoiled, making it the perfect antidote to the over-programmed resort vacation. Explore the island’s many hidden treasures while relaxing in your own private retreat. Whether rock-climbing, caving, shelling, diving, fishing, snorkeling, bird watching, hiking, walking the shore line or simply relaxing is what you desire, you will have a vacation to remember. Enjoy the peace and quiet and the laid-back island pace in a thoroughly modern and comfortable house that will immediately become your home.

Listen to the never-ending rhythm of the gentle rolling waves and feel the cooling breezes as you enjoy the warm sunshine and stunning sunsets any time of the year. There is plenty of privacy and you'll enjoy the small yellow songbirds and the island's native brown booby and frigate birds that seem to enjoy the lush, tropical surroundings. The visibility in the water is incredible and the coral reefs endless. The low temperature of the water in mid winter is 78F so you can swim all year long. We call Cayman Brac 'detox from life'. The most difficult part of your vacation will be packing your sandals and leaving this absolute tropical paradise and the fine comfortable accommodations of the house.

This well maintained oceanfront beach property overlooks the Caribbean and Little Cayman. It has access to some of the best diving and snorkeling in the world. Rebuilt and remodeled in the fall and winter of 2009, its 1700 square feet offers hardwood floors, all new fixtures, furnishings, and appliances as well as a full kitchen and living room with a large flatscreen television, iPod docks, surround home theatre sound systems, and high speed wireless internet. This unit is equipped with all the amenities one would expect from a finer home.

Stretch out and relax twenty feet from the Caribbean waters on a lounger or hammock - in the 360 square foot beach cabana with silver palm thatched roof.

Swimmers, snorkelers, and scuba divers can take advantage of the outside shower, freshwater rise tank, and dive equipment drying rack.

If you have any special requests I can be there to help within five minutes - I live very close to this rental property.

If you’re vacationing with friends but still want your privacy these units are perfect because you'll be close when you want and still have the privacy when you desire it.

Stores are closed on Sunday. If your arrival is after 6:30 pm on Saturday or on Sunday we'll do your grocery shopping for you - just send us a list, there is no charge for our time.

For your convenience I have also arranged a special deal with a local car rental agency. Those who will be renting a vehicle for a week will get the seventh day free. Additionally, if you pay with traveler’s checks or cash you will receive a 5% discount.

There are public tennis and basketball courts, a full spa, and a full fitness room just minutes away.

Inexpensive maid service is also available.

Our pleasant Property Caretaker is now available during your stay to prepare daily meals, clean, pick up groceries and necessities, provide day care, tend your bar and serve your guests, and many other service driven requests. Leave the cooking and cleaning to us!

So if mom wants a vacation and does't want to deal with cooking and cleaning or doing a load of laundry then we have a very affordable solution. Secluded Sunsets is the only guest house on the island providing services in this manner. We pride ourselves in being a cut above any other guest house and we strive daily to insure your vacation is the best one you'll ever have. Also, we understand that in todays world everyone is looking for 'value' and we are doing our very best to provide it to all of our guests.

About Henry Barbera

I grew up in south New Jersey in the States and always loved being in the sun by water and palm trees. I've always traveled and I vacationed here several years ago. When I retired at age 48 I returned to purchase a property. Now I have two properties one on the south side and I am renting the one on the north side. The water is just incredible and now I'm a certified Scuba Diver and just can't get enough of it. The Coral Reefs are amazing and can be experienced by just snorkeling. I can't ever imagine returning to the States. This place in nothing like Florida with its millions of people and chain retail.

Henry Barbera purchased this house in 2009

Why Henry Barbera chose Cayman Brac

Cayman Brac is a magical place where you can walk about in the middle of a star lit night and have not a single worry of crime or annoyances. Your family is safe here and you can feel it as the locals will wave to everyone including you. Very few people lock their houses and almost everyone will leave their car keys in the ignition 24/7 and that’s a fact. This Island is so special it has become a vacation destination for folks who live on other Caribbean Islands. The stars will make you stop in your tracks as there is very little background lights to dim the skis. You will see shooting stars and satellites orbiting the earth, you can clearly see the band of the Milky Way. This is a Scuba divers paradise with several dive boats operating daily. The visibility in the water is incredible and the coral reefs endless. This is an island of a thousand people but we do have a hospital and a few police officers. An officer's job here on the Island is the only job better than that of the old time Maytag repair man. They have to be bored out of their minds. If you want to vacation with thousands of other vacationers and to eat at the chain restaurants this is not for you. If you want tranquility and peacefulness with eighty degree weather and sunshine almost everyday this is your island. If you come once you'll be back. I am well traveled and retired from the US at age forty eight and I now live here full time on the Island. I could have moved anywhere but I wanted to live in true paradise and remove myself from the busy world out there. We call Cayman Brac detox from life. Many people come once and end up buying property before they leave. Come here and you'll see why.

What makes this house unique

If you see more then two other couples walking on the beach in front of the house in the course of a week that would be way more then normal. The Beach is private to the water line. The peace of the island will ground you and make you feel whole with the earth. It’s a simple and magical place in this crazy world.

Lounging - 360 square foot, silver plam thatched roof, beach cabana - twenty feet from the water. Hammocks and loungers provided - byob.

Guestbook comments from the owner

from Monica A I can't say enough good stuff about Secluded Sunsets AND the owner. Hy husband, I and our 3 year old wanted to stay in a beach home this time going to the Brac so we booked Secluded Sunsets from the VRBO website. We had many questions and requests before we got there. I got a good feeling about the place because everytime I would email, the owner would email back within a day with a response to our questions. Most of the time he went way overboard for us to find information that we needed regarding things like daycare, diving, boat rides, etc.... I can say that if the owner tells you that he will take care of something you can trust that he will. He was awesome! He lives on the island so if you need anything he is right there. Otherwise he stays out of your hair. He met us at the airport, had our rental car with car seat ready for us and quickly got us settled in. One of the most awesome things about this place is that there is almost EVERYTHING that you could ever want. he has bikes, DVD's, hair dryer, some food, lots of spices, first-aid kit, suntan lotion, etc... i could go on and on. One of the coolest things is that he has a cell phone for each unit that he gives you. It comes in handy. Cayman brac is almost all iron shore and rocky beaches but this place is on the sandiest beach that I saw on the island. There are still rocks so be sure to bring your rock shoes. If you are divers then this is PLACE FOR YOU! The owner has scooters for you to use. At the house are rinse buckets and a outdoor shower. Its the best location on the island for divers. I can say that because we know the island very well. Snorkeling is easy from the house. Our friends, that we met while staying there, saw a 6 foot eagle ray while snorkling just off-shore of the house. The units are new and beautiful. We stayed in the one bedroom unit on the ground level. The owner let us look at the two bedroom unit before we left and all I can say is... WOW! We have already booked the 2-bdr again for later this year. We also booked the cooking musicians while we were there and they were great. Made some great memories. This rental is located close to restaurants, airport, many shore dive sites, and supermarkets. Things to not forget are polarized sunglasses, rock water shoes, any specialized foods or snacks that you must have and your C-card. Unless you plan to chill the whole trip you really do need a rental car. We cant wait to get back to our little paradise!

I was looking for a quiet retreat and that's exactly what I got. The house was supplied perfectly and the Catetaker made sure we had everything we needed for our stay in Cayman Brac. If there's anything you need, just ask- they're more than willing to help your stay be the best ever. I loved every element of the house - and now I'd like to bring my sisters with me for another visit very soon.

So Awesome we did return.

  • 5 of 5

Well we did return as we said we would. A year to the day. It was like experiencing 'Groundhog Day' almost like we never left, and found things just as we had left them a year ago :-). Brought new guests this year with us. I had hyped it up so much that I was concerned that could it really live up to all I said it was. Well, they were not disappointed, or think I had over-sold the place. They loved it!

Great family vacation!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of, mom, sons 25, 22, and 19 had a great time at Henry's place on Cayman Brac. We had everything we needed and more than enough room for everyone. We loved the pool, being able to snorkel out in front of the house, beautiful sunsets (no green flashes), and many games of "corn hole". It was a very relaxing week!!! Thank you for your awesome hospitality...very easy to work with.

So awesome we already reserved next year!

This place was everything that Henry represents it to be and more. 4 of us stayed in the 2 bedroom unit. This place has everything you need to relax and enjoy the quiet seclusion of Cayman Brac. What a welcome break from Grand Cayman's hustle and bustle. We went diving, kayaked, and snorkeled, and took full advantage of the pool and BBQ's. I think my 80 year old parents read 5 books between them just lazing in the hammocks and around the pool. Even got Dad snorkeling in the 86 degree water right off shore of the property, and there is a lot to see in the water.

You cannot go wrong with Secluded Sunsets - Thanks Henry!

Best in the Brac

  • 5 of 5

Having visited the Brac several times staying at different places, I knew when our dive group needed a non-resort place to stay, that Secluded Sunsets might fit the bill. We rented the entire house for two weeks and was it ever a vacation to remember. The pictures of the place do not prepare you for just how pretty the property is. You began to relax as soon as you arrived at the house. Our group consisted of both adults and kids, divers and non-divers. There was something for everyone at Henry's place. The kids loved the many games, open yard and beach. The adults enjoyed chillin under the Tiki hut, taking the kayaks out for a paddle and getting away from the rat race of daily life. Everyone enjoyed the pool with the sunshades making it usable all during the day. (While the breezes are nice, the sun will toast you to a crisp if you are not careful.) We mostly did shore diving from different places around the island using Brac Scuba Shack. Following Henry's advice, we brought some food and drink from the US and used the very well stocked kitchen for cooking most of our meals. While the island is small, getting around to the dive sites, bank, stores, caves and other places to visit would have been very hard without renting a car. Henry was a wonderful host and came by to check on us several times during our stay, answering our many questions with the knowledge of someone who has spent time getting to really know the island. The information Henry provided about the island and how to best enjoy our vacation was spot on and made this trip a delight. As members of our group have traveled all over the world, expectations were high, but Henry and his property exceeded this and I can see us coming back again.

If you are looking for a quiet place to get away from the rat race, enjoy some world class diving, spend time exploring a wonderful island and it's people or just relaxing in the sun, then Secluded Sunsets in Cayman Brac is for you.

Wonderful week on the Brac

  • 5 of 5

We stayed 8 nights here, and found it a truly relaxing and easy holiday – just what we needed! It really felt like home, except warmer and way less hectic! I would recommend Henry’s place without reservations. There are plenty of other reviews if you want more details about the Brac, and what makes this island such a gorgeous and intimate destination for people who don’t like hordes of tourists and big hotels. Specifically about this house, we enjoyed: 1. Lovely snorkelling is only 50 steps from the front door. We saw multiple turtles, a ray, a giant barracuda and innumerable gorgeous tropical fish. It’s coral, not sand, so you need foot protection. Henry provided really good quality water booties as well as great fins and snorkelling gear. 2. The warm outdoor shower and pool were perfect for post-snorkelling swims, and for early evening drinks! 3. The shaded hammocks and long lounge chairs right on the beach were very comfy, and ideal for relaxing during the heat of the day. 4. The house is stocked with pretty much everything you could need, but wouldn’t actually bring on vacation – coolers, flashlights, bikes, an espresso machine, a hair dryer, binoculars, jigsaw puzzles, proper martini glasses, 100’s of movies, and even nailpolish remover and a box of emery boards to repair my pedicure! 5. The kitchen was really well set up, with great appliances and lots of dishes. We’ve rented cottages where you get exactly 4 of everything, so you’re always having to wash up, but here there was enough of everything. 6. The wifi worked really well. Henry had a little Bluetooth speaker too, so we were even able to listen to the NHL playoff game while sitting by the pool. (Go Habs!). 7. Sasha the caretaker was able to get us fresh fish when we requested it, caught the same day. How yummy!!! Fresh fish was not available at the grocery stores so this was a really terrific service. 8. Privacy and peace were amazing here. You can sit in the hammock and no-one will pass by. You share the grounds with only the few guests from Henry’s other units. We saw few if any other tourists at the various snorkeling sites, and we were alone on the lighthouse bluff to watch the birds. I could go on but I think I’m out of space. Thank you Henry for thinking of everything!!!
