Why Julie Schulz chose Sopchoppy

This unspoiled area of the Gulf coast has been unchanged for many years. Small towns along Highway 98 reflect the relaxed atmosphere of the south. Charter a fishing boat, eat the freshest oysters you ever had, and explore unique shops in Apalachicola.

What makes this house unique

You can really get away from the rat race here. It area has been left 'natural' and is home to many birds, deer, even the occasional black bear or the little gator that lives in the pond across the road. Even in the warmest weather, the screened porch is comfortable for dining. And the beach is nearly private, and has gentle waves and the beautiful soft white sand that this area is famous for.

Beautiful location, very secluded and quiet...

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay for the weekend. The home is well equipped and clean. The front door lock is a bit tricky, but we were able to gain entry after a few tries. We enjoyed swinging on the hammock on the second story balcony though there are quite a few wasps flying around the west end that appeared to be nesting. Easy walk to the beach and plenty of fish to be caught. We saw a large otter on a walk one afternoon, and he quickly scampered toward a pond. We would stay here again.

Peaceful and healing sanctuary

  • 5 of 5

Secluded, surrounded by nature, a short walk to the beach -- a wonderful, peaceful get-away from the urban hub-bub. A gorgeous, comfortable house with all the amenities and just a short (but beautiful) drive to local restaurants, shops, natural attractions. It was eye-opening to learn about the history of the area -- lots of good museums in the area that give a great overview of the importance of "the Forgotten Coast".

Lovely home, beautiful surroundings!

  • 5 of 5

Wow! What a beautiful home! Every morning we sat on the screened porch and had our coffee and every evening if we weren't on the boardwalk taking sunset pictures, we were on the screened porch enjoying the sunset from there. The beds were very comfortable (and plenty of nice pillows!). The home was well appointed in every way. I can't say enough about the location, too. We brought our own bikes, but thought is was so nice that there were plenty of bikes in the storage area if we needed them. We loved riding in the neighborhood and especially enjoyed the boardwalk and the beach. We live in a high tourist area, so this is the PERFECT getaway from the crowds! Communing with nature at its best! Great seafood! We really enjoyed Posie's in Panacea. We took our bikes and rode the St. Marks trail from 98 south. We saw Manatees at the park near the end of the trail! I didn't want to leave! We will definitely come again. I hate to give away our secret, because I love the peace and solitude here, but we came here for two different events in Tallahassee on separate weekends. The drive to Tally was pleasant and SO the stay home and location just couldn't be compared with what we would have stayed in there. Julie was great in responding and communicating with us. We will definitely be back!

Wonderful vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We had a GREAT time visitng the Forgotten Coast! The house was well equipped with everything imaginable that we needed. We were concerned that the A/C would not cool the top bedroom but it was just fine and even kinda chilly when we had the ceiling fan on. We used the bicycles, the swimming pool, the beach towels, the washer/dryer, the outside shower, the BBQ grill, the screened porch -- it was wonderful! The property manager, Julie, was very responsive when we had a problem with carpenter ants swarming at the front door at night. We enjoyed our walks to the beach and the wonderful pool, but never found time to use the kayaks though we wanted to. Saw a bear crossing the road when we first arrived but didn't see again. Also saw some alligator tracks on the beach but didn't see any. Took a half day charter fishing trip that was the highlight of our trip -- fried up our catch and had a feast! The stairs were a bit of a challenge to haul everything up and down, so be sure you're up for a little exercise. Our dogs did great, too -- we brought a couple of gates and were able to confine them to the kitchen area when we were gone. The only bad thing, and I know Julie is addressing, is that the upper floors reeked of dog urine from previous renters. We bought several plug in air fresheners that helped, but the smell was in the carpet and not much we could do. It's a shame that some people don't care for a rental as they would their own. Overall, highly recommend for a quiet getaway!

Owner's Response: Thank you Laura for your great review. I'm glad you were able to use all of the amenities and that you enjoyed the setting and the beach, etc. Unfortunately, we were unaware of any odor from the top floor at time time we cleaned the house prior to your arrival, but which was probably exacerbated by our warm weather and humidity later that day. We have addressed the problem and are confident that there will not be any further issue. We do hope you will return soon!
