The house has a great floor plan which works well for a large party. There is plenty of seating inside and out. The décor is a little outdated, but the house has everything you will need, including the hot tub, pool table and ping pong table. The house is secluded on a very windy & curvy road, with not much to do except enjoy the view, which is limited due to the trees. The only bad thing we experienced was the refrigerator in the kitchen didn't seem to keep our food very cold and the small refrigerator in the basement was dirty and we couldn't use it. All in all our we enjoyed our stay and would rent this house again.
This house did have room for the 12 of us but one double bed was broken, it was 15-20 mins just to get to main road, pool closed on Labor Day and we were not told this when we signed up for week of Labor Day, also fold up bed was broken. House not in good repair and far from anything you wanted to do. It's not on the lake but on the river which you can't see through the overgrown trees. When it rains you have a waterfall 10 feet from house.
My husband and I just returned from a week stay at this lovely location. The view is incredible.. lush green trees, the mountains, the water and of course the sounds of nature are truly splendid. The privacy is wonderful, the home is complete with all the needed amenities to have a relaxing vacation. Nearby cities provide a variety of activites to please all ages and interests. We loved going to Cumberland Falls and purchasing some pottery from Junkyard Pottery. This beautiful home is large enough for different combinations of families, groups, reunions or get aways. There are areas large enough for many to gather and the front porch as well as the two decks in the back allow for smaller groups to gather to talk, read, or sit and enjoy the spectacular view. The owner has provided a modern and well equipped kitchen. Cell service is minimal but there is a landline available and the wifi worked perfectly. My kindle fire hd worked perfectly. It was nice to have a break from our cells and a short drive allowed for better cell service.
We had such a wonderful time here and plan to return someday to experience the fall colors. This is truly a delightful place to vacation. We chose to relax but there are many options nearby to have an active, relaxed or both kind of vacation. We did not need to call the owner but it was nice to know that option was available if needed. The home is truly lovely and the floor plan is truly designed for comfort as well as function.
The house had everything we needed & then some. There was about 9 of us mostly guys and besides the 5 beds there was also 3 couches. Multiple closets stocked with linens, broom, mop & bucket, all the cleaning supplies, utensils & bathroom towels. The beds are super soft & the 6 bathrooms made it awesome so pretty much everyone took a shower without having to wait on one another. . We had a board game retreat. So the amount of table space was a HUGE bonus. There was a 6 person bar island, 6 person kitchen table & out side (2) 5- person glass round deck tables. We made use of the grill & just fixed oven pizzas the next night. plenty of food storage space. 2 full fridges. The other was in the basement in the ping pong room. The pool table was nice for the few that were actually good at it. Ha! There is an in-house landline phone to call out. none of us got any cell phone service at the house. The was surprisingly very fast wireless high speed internet. Those with smart phones could connect via the wireless & get on Facebook to text message out. . The view was amazing! and the colors on the tree were hinting at changing for autumn. you had a fantastic view of the water in the afternoon. And the front porch seating was great to turn off all the lights & look at the stars. Most of us are from Louisville so the light pollution never let us see it as great as that! . .There was a few things we noted to fix or improve upon. The in-house stereo was a little dated & had no AUX port for out gadgets for music. 2 of the pool table leather pocket straps were detached. The base of the grill was very rusty. It rained & the deckwood was a little soggy warped when stepped on. overall great!
We stayed at this home for our 2011 family vacation. There were 9 of us. The home was large enough and clean. Except for hosing off the decks and outdoor furniture. I did enjoy doing this---do to the steamy weather we had. However a few things were not kept up with They were all minor things-Towel bar/tp holder. I can guarantee that if notes would of been left by previuos renters, the maintainence/cleaning crew would have repaired things.
All bedrooms were roomy and had more then enough storage. Bedding was comfortable. All appliances were in good repair. A/C worked great! Hot tub on LL was clean on the deck but not enclosed.
I was shocked coming from Ohio at all the different species of insects. I took some home for my grandson. No mosquitos were bothering us. But some very unique insects.
To really enjoy the Lake you need a boat whether you bring yours or rent one. You really need to map out trips.
The grocery store was about 10 minutes away, after you actually leave the property it took about 30 minutes to downtown Somerset.
Again, once you arrive plan trip destinations. The rental office does not budge with too much information. However, everyone else was hospitable.
**Make sure you bring your alcohol with you. Yes, it is for sure a DRY county!
Other then that our trip was enjoyable.
Thank you Carol for letting us enjoy your home. :)
My extended family (9 adults and 5 children) go on a group vacation once a year. This year we chose this property after reviewing the website. We arrived at the property on 6/27/10 and left on 7/1/10. Here is our assessment of pluses and minuses as compared to our expectations based on information derived from the website.
Pluses - The bedding and furniture in the bedrooms wer better than we expected as were the bathrooms and kitchen (for the most part). It was nice to have nightstands and chest of drawers in the bedrooms. The bathrooms were clean. It was nice to have a washer and dryer and wi-fi though we expected this from the website..
Minuses - The refrigerator did not seem to work or at least not very well. We were concerned with it early in our stay and so we bought a thermometer that never registered below 53 degrees. We understand the constant opening and closing and the amount of food can affect the temperature, but we felt that overnight and once the fridge was packed it should have gotten to a lower temp. Also, the bottom rack on the fridge door was broken and kept falling off. We eventually removed it so we lost this storage space. There was another broken same rack in the pantry. The dishwasher did cycle, but the detergent did not dispense so dishes were not cleaned. We did not use the dishwasher. The phone in the kitchen did not hold a charge from the beginning so while we were able to call out very soon after someone answered the phone would go dead. We ended up not using the phone. It would have been nice if the vegatation around the decks had been trimmed back a little more. I would also say that we did not contact the owner or on site maintenance people about any of these issues for a couple reasons. We did not want anyone trying to fiix the washer or fridge while we were occupying the rental, and we were able for the most part to adapt to the issues. We were there to enjoy of vacation without the interruption of appliance repair.
Bring the ATV's and go exploring, New 18 hole golf course 12 minutes from home, new water park 30 minutes away, drive-in theater shopping & many other activities within 20 minutes from home. Beautiful Cumberland Falls is just 35 minutes away!
