Keokea Beach Sweet Retreat

Bedrooms 2
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

2 Bedrooms, 1 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

This magical 2 bedroom cottage is on the road to Keokea Beach Park in North Kohala. This is a peaceful retreat in a special old Hawaii neighborhood. Surrounded by lush tropical vegetation and perched above a gulch with seasonal stream, the cedar home features luxurious woods throughout the interior. Cabinets of African mahogany, koa, maple and red gum eucalyptus make the kitchen an artistic delight. Eight different woods pattern the floors. Cathedral ceilings give plenty of light and a feeling of spaciousness.

The large surrounding deck invites you to live outside, enjoying views of Maui and a peek of the ocean below. The landscape gives a sense of seclusion, yet only a short drive from the charming towns of Kapaau and Hawi. Keokea Beach Park is walking distance from the cottage. Local families enjoy picnics and watching for whales in season there! Or drive /run 2 miles to Polulu Valley and hike down to the black sand beach. Rich soil, just enough rain, and wind-protected gulches made this area the breadbasket of the ancient Hawaiians. They say that the property was home to King Kamehameha's private Taro patch!

The master bedroom has a king bed; the 2nd bedroom has a double bed. The bathroom is between the two bedrooms. The cedar hale is a seperate building next door and perfect for large families that need space! Soak in the beautiful soaking tub for the perfect relaxing and romantic experience. Outdoor shower near laundry. Wake up and pick your breakfast right off the tree! papaya, mango, bananas, mac nuts, lemons, Tahitian limes, collard greens grow right on the property. Enjoy quiet nights and the Milky way with local hiking and fantastic beaches a walk away!

Gorgeous house

  • 5 of 5

This was a fantastic house. So beautiful and well stocked. We loved our retreat here. Was so helpful to have baby stuff available (crib, toys for sand, high chair) , and loved the futon for naps on the lanai.

Resting in the Tree Tops

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect property to catch your breath and check out for awhile.

Sitting on the Lanai and looking over the Tree tops and down to the beautiful gardens was just what I needed.

I'll definitely return.

Resting in a Tree House

  • 5 of 5

I needed some quiet time and this was the perfect place. Looking over the Lanai gave me the feeling of being in a tree house. Beautiful gardens, open space and a long view of Maui on a cloudless day. However the clouds were great to follow as well.

This house is close to everything you might need and close to some new shopping experiences.

I would return in a heartbeat

Place of peaceful beauty and spirtual comfort

  • 5 of 5

The lanai boasts lush views of the valley below. The lanai itself was a great covered outdoor living space. I really enjoyed a dining table outside, but it was topped by an intimate seating area where we both planned our day and could talk about our day on return. What a treasure!

The inside was cozy , clean and fun. I would return there ina heartbeat.

Absolute magic at this Sweet Retreat

  • 5 of 5

I couldn't have had a more enjoyable experience- it was exactly what I needed. So cozy and clean and just a comfortable homey place to relax .. Some of my favorite moments were sitting on the porch drinking my coffee and enjoying the unexpected jungle rains that would pass every so often. Kapaau is such a sweet community - and north Kohala in general is magical. So different to the touristy traps of the resort. Feels like you are experiencing the real Hawaii. Just a mile from the house is Pololu Valley- quite possibly the most beautiful lookout point I have ever seen. Susan was so sweet and recommended great eating spots and local beaches. This place was a dream. Can't wait to come back.

The Sweetest Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

My stay at Susan's was absolutely incredible! At the home you are completely surrounded but the tropical jungle; it really could not be more peaceful. While I was staying there the avocado tree was producing the most delicious avocados, too! Her house is a very special place and I will definitely be back again. A true dream!
