Unlike other yachts, we specialize in only 1 couple aboard. We provide the perfect getaway on your own private non-smoking crewed yacht. Being the only couple onboard, you are treated like royalty. Do what you want, when you want. You have the freedom to explore, discover, and experience new adventures everyday. Your voyage is personalized and is a customized vacation tailored to you and your desires. Captain Dave and Admiral Bobbie Rae are committed to providing you the dream sailing vacation experience of a lifetime. Feel the wind and sun as you glide through the majestic and unspoiled Virgin Islands. Visit beautiful palm-tree lined beaches, hike lush trails, snorkel and view the bountiful underwater world of coral, sea fans, and multitudes of fish.
Our 7 day cruise begins in St. Thomas. On a typical day you will leisurely awaken to another beautiful day in paradise, and we may sail for perhaps 1-2 hours to another more beautiful anchorage. Depending upon your cruising preferences, you may spend the majority of your time off the vessel visiting the local beach bar, snorkeling, hiking, eating out, shopping. Alternatively, you may wish to remain aboard reading, sunbathing on deck, or swimming snorkeling from the vessel. The choice is always yours.
The following is a sample itinerary:
Day 1: Board the vessel at noon on the east side of St. Thomas. Sail to Leinster Bay on St. John and snorkel Waterlemon Cay. Hike up to the ruins overlooking the bay, and visit the Annenberg Sugar Mill ruins.
Day 2: Check into the BVI at Soper's Hole, West End of Tortola. Then sail to Norman Island and enjoy the beach bar amenities at Pirates Bight, snorkel the Indians and the Caves, party at the Willi T at night, and next day go for a morning hike along the ridge line. Truly enjoy the original 'Treasure Island.'
Day 3: Continue sailing up the Sir Francis Drake Channel, visiting Salt Island and making a snorkel stops at the Wreck of the Rhone to visit one of the most sought after dive/snorkel spots in the world. End up drinking painkillers at the sunset bar at Cooper Island Beach Resort.
Day 4: The Bathes. This is one of the 'must see' spots in the islands. Huge granite boulders toppled on one another from long ago volcanic activity, forming many intricate passages and tidal pools (hence the name 'Bathes'). Snorkel, swim, sun, hike, enjoy the local beach bar. Then enjoy a sunset sail up to Gorda Sound, home of the Bitter End Resort, Saba Rock, Biras Creek, and Leverick Bay. Enjoy the Michael Bean's Pirate Happy Arrrr, or view the Mocko Jumbies. Snorkel in the incredible Eustachia Sound.
Day 5: Anageda, known as the 'Forbidden Paradise.' Surrounded by dangerous fringing reef, Anagada is generally off limits to most charter boats unless the skipper demonstrates sufficient experience. Travel to the north side beaches for miles and miles of incredible sand and some of the best snorkeling anywhere. And the lobster...delicious!
Day 6: Jost Van Dyke. Discover the Soggy Dollar Bar, and home of the original pain killer. Climb to the weather station at the top of the island. Dance the night away at Foxys, the #2 New Years Eve Destination in the world.
Day 7: Sail back to St. Thomas. On the way, visit Cruz Bay, St. John, to check into US Customs and Immigration and to shop at many of the fine establishments.
Additional cruise notes: The above sample itinerary is written to give you a flavor of what's possible. Some guests come aboard with well defined notions of what they would like to see and do. Others leave it strictly up to Captain Dave and Admiral Bobbie Rae to serve as their travel guides. Either way, our promise to you is that we will do everything possible to ensure your complete cruising satisfaction.

Ahoy, mateys! We are Captain Dave and Admiral Bobbie Rae.
Captain Dave fell in love with the Virgin Islands in 1977 and has been sailing here since. He began sailing on Long Island Sound as a teenager. He attended the University of Wisconsin Madison and sailed extensively with the U.W. Hoofers. He graduated the Bowman Gray School of Medicine in 1977 and did his first bareboat charter in the Virgin Islands for a graduation gift. What a gift it was! He was hooked! He returned to Wisconsin and began racing Hobie Cats and sailing on the Great Lakes. He also sailed in the Pacific Northwest(Seattle, Puget Sounds, San Juan Islands) The Med(French and Italian Riviera).
Admiral Bobbie Rae was born in Louisiana and moved to Green Bay Wisconsin (Let's go Packers!) as a child. She grew up in Green Bay, got a degree in Horticulture, and operated her own Horticulture business for 31 years, serving the greater Green Bay community. She is an accomplished metal artist, and is always seeking outlets for her abundant creative energies. Her lifelong dream was to be living on a sailboat, and she joined Captain Dave aboard Bel Ami in 2011, and hasn't looked back. She lends her creativity to all those niceties that make the difference for a really great sailing vacation experience. In February 2015 Captain Dave and Admiral Bobbie Rae officially tied the knot, and plan to continue sailing together for the rest of their lives!
Captain Dave Goodman purchased this yacht in 2007
It has been Captain Dave's lifelong dream to live on a sailboat and sail the world's oceans. He has sailed extensively throughout the Bahamas and east Caribbean, from Bimini to Grenada, and looks forward to eventually sailing around the world! For now, sharing the joy of his sailing experience with others gets him up in the morning! He purchased Bel Ami because she is a world class cruising sailboat. She is uniquely designed with electronic sail controls, bowthruster, and modern navigational equipment. She also has ocean going safety equipment including liferaft, emergency beacon, and man overboard equipment.
What sets Bel Ami Voyages apart from the rest of the charter fleet is that we specialize in taking only 1 guest couple aboard. The vast majority of charter boats cater to 2 or more couples, families or groups. By being the only guest couple aboard, you only have to concern yourselves with your own agenda, and you are the sole beneficiary of the attentions of Captain Dave and Admiral Bobbie Rae, whose job it is to provide everything you require for a spectacular trip-guaranteed! You can rest assured that Captain Dave and 1st Mate Bobbie Rae will see to your complete satisfaction, or your money back! There is no other charter company in the industry that provides such a guarantee!
To be able to get up in the morning, smell the salt air and feel the wind blow through your hair, jump in the water for a quick splash or a long swim, enjoy a leisurely breakfast in the cockpit, cast off the bow lines or weigh anchor and sail to the next location more beautiful than before, watch the rainbows, bask in the sunlight, hear the silent running of the sails as Bel Ami glides through the deep blue waters, end up at the next quite and safe anchorage, go ashore for sunset libation or remain in the cockpit for happy hour, swim, snorkel, or absolutely do nothing...really enjoying heaven on earth!
Thank you for all your attentions during the trip, Keith and I had such a wonderful time.
Every aspect of our amazing week was custom designed for us. Captain Dave and Admiral Bobby-Rae interviewed us in advance to determine our preferences in food, activities, refreshments and sports. And they took care to provide us with all the privacy we wanted. From fabulous food, plus this amazing boat, and the care they gave to our every need...a 5-Star rating is just no enough stars! It was the sailing trip of our dreams.
Thank you for providing the most “AMAZING 50th BIRTHDAY WEEK CELEBRATION” for Patricia that we could ever have imagined…know what, it even fulfilled a lifetime dream for me. Amazing does not begin to capture the experience provided by the Bel Ami with Admiral Bobbie Rae and Captain David Goodman, two of the most “gracious and knowledgeable” people on the entire planet. Since Bobbie Rae was a little under the weather on our first day Patricia helped as a
“swabbie” on deck, with her love of water and skill, was quickly promoted to first mate and helped “man the sails” with Captain Dave when the winds shifted. As Dolly Parton once said; “we cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails”.
We enjoyed the many options given on a daily, actually at a moment’s notice, to enjoy “paradise” here on earth. Captain Dave’s knowledge is rooted in experience of sailing, snorkeling, hiking, and dinning of every square foot of the Islands since 1977. Yes, we found “paradise” and took the suggestions of Captain Dave seriously as we followed rigorously through trails leading to old sugar mills ruins, grave sites, and many other industrial sites that once provided commerce. We snorkeled the Great Saint James, Christmas Cove, The Bight on Norman Island, Salt Pond Bay, and Hurricane Hole. The sites we saw under water were breathtaking and unbelievable, color that was unimaginable with different kinds of sea life!!
Our exquisite taste for food was complimented by great natural prepared snacks, breakfast, lunch, dinner fit for Royalty, as we were made to feel. Captain Dave’s cooking skills must have been earned from the “Institute of Culinary Education” in New York City…and, yes, it was done on the yacht, unbelievable, fresh tropical fruit was always abundantly available.
“We really never saw the moon”, but the stars were crystal clear as we looked over the water into the gorgeous sky while listening to Captain Dave and Bobbie Rae sing our favorite songs while playing the accordion!
Patricia and I were extremely well informed of what our voyage would entail and how to stay as comfortable as possible with any changing weather conditions. Yes, our entire voyage was planned according to our wishes, not cookie cutter, but a “custom planned” vacation of a lifetime!!
We highly recommend the Bel Ami for adventure seekers and romantic getaways, and, "we shall return"!!
We boarded Bel Ami for a special 25th Anniversary trip. Little did we know the trip would be one of our best ever!! Dave and Bobbie Rae are great hosts and tour guides. We snorkeled , hiked, and partied throughout the US and BVI. The food was outstanding. Dave is a great chef and can play the accordion like a rock star!! For anyone looking for the intimate sailing experience the Bel Ami is for you. We snorkled Great Saint James, Christmas Cove, The Bight on Norman Island, Salt Pond Bay, Hurricane Hole, and Leinster Bay. We took hikes as well on Norman Island, Ramshead at Salt Pond Bay, and the sugar mills ruins on Leinster Bay both on St. John, We returned to end the week at Secret Harbor on St. Thomas. Dave, Bobbie Rae, and ourselves took off for a last night of entertainment. Dave took us to Carigas where he played accordion with Sassafras. Once that gig what was complete we traveled to Latitude 18. The Fiddler was playing and when we arrived they were playing "Rocky Top" which was fittting since we are from Tennessee. Dave quickly joined the band here and we all proceeded to have a great evening. It was a great last night with Dave and Bobbie Rae. For anyone looking for that once in a lifetime trip, the BEL AMI is for you!!
My wife and I booked this trip for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. We had no real prior sailing experience but my wife wanted to try something adventuristic instead of going to a typical luxury resort in the Caribbean. We had the time of our life on this trip!!! Captain Dave and his wife Bobbie were excellent hosts, and Captain Dave is an extremely knowledgeable sailor. I never worried about our safety, and completely trusted Captain Dave’s knowledge and expertise. In short, Captain Dave and Bobbie allowed our brains to check out from the worry and stress of daily life, and just enjoy the beautiful sights, sounds, and smells of the ocean and the islands we visited. I read the other 5 star reviews before booking this trip, and they are an accurate representation of what we experienced on our amazing trip. We enjoyed our trip so much that my wife and I are now signed up for sailing lessons because we have visions of buying our own sailboat someday so that we can enjoy the life that Captain Dave and Bobbie experience every day!
My wife wanted to go sailing for her birthday so we booked a week on Bel Ami for a trip of a lifetime!! Not knowing anything about sailing, we were a little bit apprehensive at first but after a couple of days we felt right at home!
It is amazing the amount of knowledge and expertise involved in sailing! Captain Dave and first mate Bobbie Ray really know their stuff! We now have just a little understanding of keeling, tacking, coming about and lots of other nautical terms. We got quite the education from them not to mention being pampered and spoiled with their gourmet meals. We enjoyed eating on the islands as well as there were hospitable open air restaurants or bars everywhere we stopped! The highlight meal was a lobster dinner at the Anegada Reef Hotel. Simply delicious! Captain Dave knows the Islands like the back of his hand. We must have visited at least a dozen of them. The sights were interesting, hiking and views were fabulous and the snorkeling was terrific!
My wife had a memorable birthday week and we both are looking forward to coming back soon!
This was truely a relaxing adventure with world class new friends. My partner and I spent a week aboard the Bel Ami early November. From the time we landed in St.Thomas until we took off, we were pampered by Captain Dave and Admiral Bobby Rae. They anticipated our needs, from suggesting hikes, taking us to beautiful snorkling spots, to cooking gourmet meals, and surprising us with delicious drinks. Although not new to the boating world, our accomadations exceeded our expectations. We had plenty privacy in our relatively spacious quarter, and enjoyed the efficiency of the amenities on board. We often left it up to Captain Dave to decide where to set his sails, and he never took short cuts, and every place we visited was charming, and some were really magical.
We were looking at spending a week, reliving some of my boyfriend's early memory, and celbrating our love, and friendship. We wanted a laid back escapade indulging in the beauty of the Carribean. Bel ami, Captain David, and Admiral Bobby Rae delivered this and more.
