About Dawn LaRocque

I am the owner of a small local Art and Artisan shop in Lexington SC. I love finding and fixing up cycling furniture and items no longer usable and selling them in my shop. My husband owns a commercial construction business. We have totally remodeled the cabin since it was purchased it in 2008. We wanted a rustic hunting lodge look, and a place that made you just want to relax.

Dawn LaRocque purchased this cabin in 2008

Why Dawn LaRocque chose Smoky Mountains

Growing up in the rental business and owning my own rental business I have always dreamed of having a Bed & Breakfast and opening my home to folks to enjoy. This is as close as I could get to a bed and breakfast and still have my career. I love reading what our guests have posted in the guest book.

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin is between Maggie Valley and Waynesville. Not far from the ski lodge, and just around the corner to the Maggie Valley Country club. There is always something going on year round.

A great get away!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I were very pleased with the home and property. The cabin was close to Maggie Valley and lots of good restaurants. The pictures and description were accurate in describing the property and the owners were very responsive in every step of the process from reserving to refunding the security deposit. The Cherokee reservation was very interesting and a lot of fun. Our kids got hands on experience with the history they had studied in school this year.

A great peaceful cabin in the woods!!!

Very easy process and a clean, comfortable home

  • 5 of 5

Dawn was super easy to work with. The arrangements for getting into the house were a snap. The home was clean and well appointed. We had everything we needed.

We will definitely look at staying here again when we are back in the area.

A pleasant stay

  • 3 of 5

The cabin was just the right size for our stay. The master bedroom being downstairs made it nice and quiet. The exterior of the house needs some serious work. Several of the porch rails are seeing pretty serious deterioration and wood rot. One rail is missing completely which poses a safety hazard for small children. The front gutter is detaching from the fascia board. The interior was very clean although you can tell it's been well used. It could use a bit of updating. All in all, it was a pleasant stay.

Quiet relaxing vacation

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was roomy and comfortable. The beds were nice and soft. Could use an exterminator. I realize it is in a wooded area but I'm not fond of bugs and spiders. I was confused about the recycling. It mentioned blue recycle bags in several places but I found no garbage bags other than the ones in the can. I thought about taking my fur baby but glad I didn't. The information made it sound like she should be crated at all times. I don't want this to be totally negative. I did love the cabin and I would definitely try to stay again. It is in a nice area. We set the air on 76 but I don't think it kicked on. The house was nice and cool at all times.

Nice property, a lot of decorations and made it feel a little cluttered.

  • 3 of 5

There were a few issues. Many of the light bulbs were burned out. Washing machine was very loud.

Owner's Response: Thanks Mark for the review, We came up after your visit and corrected the lighting outage I only noticed 2 lights out. Never thought the house was cluttered just well staged. As for the loud washer I will have that looked at. I appreciate your input. Dawn LaRocque 6/14/2017 We had a Technician look at the washer. He said the washer was not broken just a loud washer. We just replaced it a year ago. Guest will need to consider washing clothes when not there
