About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 8) with Ocean Views

Charming Casa Mira Mar, home by the sea, awaits your visit. In this recently remodeled historic home that has room for up to eight guests, you are minutes walking distance from the village and beaches of San Clemente. While enjoying the comforts of home, you can explore the world class surfing beaches and extensive trails, marvel at the sunsets, discover the delights of local restaurants and shops, and still find time to venture north or south for further amusements. For more ideas check out our personal website (link located below).

Casa Mira Mar’s front door opens to a spacious, high-beam ceiling living room with original wood floors, a traditional “beehive” fireplace, media center, and wireless internet. The main floor of the house includes a small but fully outfitted modern kitchen, dining room with table that expands to seat eight, as well as three bedrooms and one and one-half bathrooms. The second floor accommodates additional guests with its full bath, bedroom, and separate private living space.

An open sky deck, on the third floor, with 360 degree views of the sunrise and sunset, ocean, off-shore islands, and the hills, nightlights, and neighborhoods of San Clemente is an additional bonus. The courtyard jacuzzi and patio complements Casa Mira Mar’s outdoor space and encourages you to take advantage of the more than 342 days of San Clemente sunshine. Tropical plants, red-tiled roofs, and colorful Spanish tile delight the senses and take you to a time and place when the living was slower and easier.

What’s life like at Casa Mira Mar? Imagine your day beginning on the front porch in the morning sun with a good cup of coffee and newspaper in hand. Or perhaps you choose to wander into town for a leisurely breakfast while sitting at an outdoor café to enjoy the ocean breezes and watch the community wake-up.

Later, a short walk will quickly take you to a local beach where you, friends and family alike can watch the surfers or enjoy your own recreational activities. Another option is to get in your car and explore one of the other local towns—Laguna, San Juan Capistrano--or beaches—San Onofre and Trestles are two favorites. And a little father north or south you can find Disneyland, Universal Studios, Legoland, Sea World, nationally acclaimed theaters, and of course the world renown San Diego Zoo. The Orange County Airport is about 30 minutes away by toll road so you can easily pick up a friend that may join you for your week by the sea. Some of your party may chose to golf at the local public course, others may want to go whale watching, the possibilities are endless!

After a busy day, you have time for the sunset from Casa Mira Mar's view roof deck followed by a candlelight dinner on the patio (though San Clemente’s restaurant choices are tempting too). Evening’s activities may include a family game, favorite TV show, movie, or book in front of the living room fire or perhaps a play at our local Cabrillo Theatre, a block from the house. The day comes to an end with either a soak in the hot tub or star gazing from the roof deck. And then it starts all over again! View our personal website with more pictures and information to see why our guests, family and friends return to Casa Mira Mar over and over again.

About Sue

Many years ago my husband and I met in Southern California and although we moved to the cold north and have enjoyed full careers and an active family life in Alaska, we have loved regular visits to the beaches of our youth. We dreamed of owning our own beach home and when our daughter landed in San Clemente, we decided to return to the coast. Finding an historical home close to the village and beach was the 'icing on our cake.' When we can't enjoy our home by the sea and all the delights of San Clemente and Orange County, we like to share it with others.

Sue purchased this house in 2006

Why Sue chose Orange County

As third generation Californians, we've always appreciated the state's rich history. So when we had the opportunity to purchase one of the few existing historical homes, envisioned by the city founder, Ole Hanson, we jumped at the opportunity to 'live' this part of San Clemente's original history.

What makes this house unique

With its close proximity to both the village and the beach, we chose Casa Mira Mar over many other options available to us. We loved our little house but after a few years, we decided to renovate and expand it with a second floor 'casita' to accommodate our growing family. We also added a third floor sky deck because of our family tradition of gathering to watch evening sunsets. It is now perfect and we hope all our guests who chose to stay here will agree.

So many delightful details in this home….

  • 5 of 5

My parents rented this home for our Christmas/New Year family reunion. There are so many beautiful features of the home I don't know where to begin. No detail has been overlooked. On this trip I decided that Spanish colonial architecture is my favorite style. Everything about the home is beautiful and charming, inside and out. Sue has done a great job decorating. The light fixtures, tile work, vintage furniture, pillows were all perfect for an historical home like this one.

My husband, our two children and I stayed in the “casita” master suite overlooking the patio courtyard. The suite is completely charming and no detail is overlooked. The casita is open, airy, sunny, and surrounded by trees, like living in a tree house! Despite being two blocks from downtown San Clemente, the house is pretty quiet. The bed was super comfy and we all slept amazingly.

My parents slept in the “colorido” suite which opens up to the courtyard with a barbecue, plenty of patio furniture and Jacuzzi tub. The kids practically lived in that tub, and my 4 year old even learned how to swim in it! (It’s pretty big Jacuzzi.) I’m not joking when I say that he took about 3 hot tubs a day. After a day of playing at the beach and in the cold water we were grateful to be able to warm up in the Jacuzzi.

The courtyard feels very private and is beautiful with plants and whimsical outdoor art. At night we turned on the outdoor lights which lent a very festive atmosphere. We spent many nights cooking and eating in the backyard and just loved it.

Because my grandmother cannot walk stairs she took advantage of one of the downstairs bedrooms. Fortunately, most of the living area at Casa Mira Mar is on the first floor.

I was happy to see the house was stocked with children’s toys, including beach toys, as well as a pack and play crib and high chair. The house was decorated with sweet little Christmas decorations as well, which was a nice and surprising touch. The backyard is secured with a gate which was ideal for letting the kids play outside. The kitchen is supplied with new dishes and appliances and is stocked with all the spices we needed to cook up some great meals.

The home is very close to the beach and train station (we took the Surfliner to San Diego for the day). There is plenty of parking with room for three cars on the driveway and it’s easy to access the freeway from Casa Mira Mar.

One of my favorite features is the sky deck with stunning views of the mountains and water.

Loved the location in San Clemente. Walking distance to many places. Lot of space and separate private areas. Can accommodate multiple families. Owner was great to work with! Really enjoyed watching the sunset over the ocean from the rooftop. Thank you Sue!

Owner's Response: Pleased to hear you enjoyed Casa Mira Mar and took advantage of our sky deck to enjoy December's glorious sunsets. We agree that its location within easy walking distance to the beaches and restaurants is a plus, as are the different private spaces that the house offers. We appreciate your choosing us for your reunion.

Can I just say that being able to walk to the village and the beaches is a big plus in my book?! The cool San Clemente Coastal trail is just minutes from Casa Mira Mar as is my new favorite restaurant. We liked having the Jacuzzi in the back courtyard tho’ we didn’t use it—too much else to do. But when we return with the little ones, the jacuzzi is a pool their size and a perfect introduction before we take them with their older cousin to play in the ocean just down the street. We liked the separate living/socializing spaces. For a relatively small home, our group had privacy when we wanted it and common areas for gathering. Different places to eat (three outside and one in) and two different rooms for TV watching added to the versatility of this vacation home. But the sweeeeet history and architecture of this old “Ole” was the icing on the cake for us. Yep, we're going to return.

Love San Clemente and Casa Miramar!

  • 5 of 5

We’ve stayed in many beautiful homes and condos over the years but Casa Mira Mar is now hands down our favorite vacation rental. San Clemente is a charming little beach town and just perfect for enjoying some much needed mid-winter downtime (and sunshine!). Its location was ideal for making day trips to friends and family in Los Angeles and San Diego (not to mention several amusement parks in the surrounding areas). The home itself is a lovely showcase of Spanish Colonial architecture and everything we needed was within walking distance of the house (beaches, restaurants, shops, etc.). There’s a sweet municipal golf course with breathtaking ocean and canyon view about ten minutes away and one our favorite Mexican restaurants ANYWHERE is right around the corner. But it’s really also the little things, the often-overlooked amenities, that put Casa Miramar ahead of other typical vacation rentals in my opinion. The kitchen is fully stocked with all the requisite equipment and a large collection of spices with which to cook, and there are plenty of place settings for hosting cocktail hour and dinner parties. There’s an array of different size pillows so every guest can choose the size/firmness that fits their tastes and each room has reading lamps on BOTH sides of the bed (which we book lovers certainly do appreciate!). There are lots of hangers in every closet so you don’t have to skimp on your vacation wardrobe, and hooks on the back of the doors help ensure that clothes and wet towels stay in their proper place. It may seem like small stuff but when I’m away from my own home these little things afford a sense of comfort that can be difficult to attain while on vacation. San Clemente and Casa Mira Mar surpassed our expectations and will certainly become a repeat vacation destination spot for our family.

Perfect Christmas getaway

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect place to gather and celebrate Christmas with our family. Being from the Pacific Northwest, we're always looking to retreat to warmer climes for the holidays. Casa Miramar was an ideal space to house my wife and me, as well as her sister, brother-in-law, and one-year old nephew. The weather couldn't have been more perfect - sunny, and warm enough for us to get outside to hiking trails and the beach. One of our favorite activities was probably watching surfers brave the frigid waters to catch some great waves at Trestles, the famous surf spot. My wife loves to cook and the house had everything she needed for a gourmet meal - from utensils to spices to an outdoor grill. After longs days the beach, when she didn't feel like pulling something together, there were plenty of fantastic restaurants within easy walking distance of the house. The baby (and adults) loved the jacuzzi and we spent almost every evening enjoying sunsets on the sky deck. Perhaps most importantly, the bedrooms were perfectly accommodated - complete with really comfy beds - and overall we liked the house and village so much we're planning a return trip this April.

Casa Mira Mar is a great home base for fun, family and exploring!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at Casa Mira Mar for two months recently, while I was on maternity leave after having our first child. We quickly made Casa Mira Mar our home - which wasn't difficult because the house feels so lived in already - not "vacation rental-ish" at all. The home was FULLY stocked with anything and everything you would need for a vacation (from batteries to boogie boards to VERY comfy beds). The owner provide a large binder that goes into great detail about the home and the surrounding area.

Casa Mira Mar is beautifully restored - anyone who came to visit us loved all the special touches throughout the house. The location couldn't be better - it is faster to walk to town than to drive.

The owners were so helpful with any questions we had - by the end of our 2 month stay, they felt more like friends :)

I recommend Casa Mira Mar to anyone looking for a home where you can easily explore San Clemente, spend time with family and enjoy a relaxing vacation all at the same time.

Some of our favorite places were Nick's (The Grilled Halibut Sandwich is a must), Farmer's Market on Sunday (where we tasted Reed avocados for the 1st time), Captain Mauri's has delicious healthy options and friendly staff, LaRocco's Pizza (my husband is a New Yorker and thought their pizza was the real deal) and last but not least Surfin' Donuts for a quick (and greasy) breakfast. All of the above are within walking distance.

You are guaranteed a wonderful vacation if you stay at Casa Miramar...
