About Jerry Style

My name is Jerry Style.

I am a tax and financial planner. Obviously, I work very hard during the winter. But, that is to your benefit, because when I am not enjoying my piece of paradise, YOU CAN!!!

I live in New York, but get to Crystal Cove whenever I can. I love its relaxed atmosphere, the beach and especially the snorkling.

I'm not much of a shopper, but I have purchased some beautiful jewelry there for my girlfriend at very reasonable prices. Shopping there is actually interesting, but don't tell my girlfriend that.

Jerry Style purchased this condo in 2007

Why Jerry Style chose Estate Smith Bay

When the real estate broker took me to Crystal Cove, I could not believe my eyes!!! Never did I think that I would own a piece of paradise like this!!! But, as it worked out, I bought it, and someday, maybe 7 or eight years from now, I will retire here. In the mean time, I go whenever I can, and rent it out when I cannot make it there.

What makes this condo unique

The great things about Crystal Cove are many:

- First and foremost, Sapphire Beach is the perfect getaway where you can just relax amidst beautiful scenery at serene seaside beach.

- It is the USA, and you don't even need a passport to get there. We of course use the US dollar.

- It is the Caribbean, and the temperature here is remarkably consistant. The highs and the lows from the winter to the summer vary by only about 5 degrees.

- There is a natural air conditioning at Crystal Cove, with a trade wind that constantly blows gently across your skin. It is the Caribbean, so rain is always in the forecast, but wait a few minutes, and the rain will be gone.

- Our Unit is D-36. It is as close to the beach as you can get. However, since the pathways from the other units lead in differing directions, D-36 is one of the most secluded and private units in the complex.

- The snorkling is among the best I done throughout the Caribbean.

- There are many great restaurants in nearby Red Hook.

- The best meals we have though are those we prepare and dine on our porch overlooking our magnificent beach with romantic music playing in the background.

- The staff, both management, beach attendents and maintenance crew are all spectacular.

- WE ARE NOW GREEN!!! The electricity is now solar powered!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Jerry,

Words are not enough to thank you for the wonderful stay at your beautiful condo on St. Thomas! It made our honeymoon very special. Not only was the setting beautiful, but the people, your friends, matched that beauty with their warmth and friendship. You laid the groundwork for how they accepted us with open arms.

Norma was like a mother hen to both of us, especially when she went above and beyond the normal call of duty. As you know, I had a heart issue and had to be taken to the hospital. The hospital care was spectacular, even better than our hospital in New York. But Norma stayed with us and saw to it that we received the best of care. She brought us blankets, made sure we were well fed, and even arranged for our transportation back to the condo when I was discharged.

Norma, her friends and her staff are wonderful examples of what the world could be and should be like.

And even though our trip got off to this rough start, the remainder of our trip was wonderful! The condo was warm and comfortable. The staff on the property were friendly and accommodating. And Sapphire Beach is beautiful beyond compare.

Jerry! Thank You!!! Thank You!!! Thank You!!!

With our love,

George and Connie

(Owner's note: George and Connie are both in their 80's. They just got married and chose our place to celebrate their honeymoon. They are a wonderful couple!)

Great beach front location

  • 5 of 5

This was our first trip to St. Thomas for more than one night and we were glad we chose Jerry's condo. From the start Jerry was very responsive and provided a wealth of knowledge about his unit, Sapphire beach and the surrounding area. We have been using VRBO to find vacation condo's / villas for a few years now and this was a great experience just like the rest.

Jerry's condo is exactly as described and well maintained. We were able to check in with out a hitch and the unit was clean and ready for our arrival. The only hitch was the cable wasn't working (infrastructure in the islands is questionable) but Jerry and Norma his property manager were on top of the problem right away and it was resolved during our stay, not that we were in paradise to watch TV anyhow.

The beach is amazing and there is great snorkeling walking right off shore. There was adequate snorkel gear provided in the condo if you don't have your own. The beach chair women were super friendly and always found us a nice spot under a tree to veg out for the day.

The beach can be crowded when some mega cruise ships are in port but they tend to stay in the middle of the beach, but sometimes its fun to interact with some folks, especially when you can brag that this is your beach for the week and they all have to get back on the boat.

We really enjoyed our stay and would gladly rent from Jerry again!

Paradise Already Begging to Be Returned To

  • 5 of 5

I spent quite a bit of time deciding upon which rental to choose for a long term stay - one month - in St. Thomas. I'm a choosy traveler. When I happened upon this unit, I knew from the very first picture I looked at the I was supposed to stay here. My gut feeling wasn't wrong, and after having a lengthy conversation with Jerry, I booked. For the full month. Gulp. Best decision of my life.

The location couldn't have been more perfect. This upper floor end unit was steps away from one of my favorite beaches in the Virgin Islands (and I explored many). Sapphire Beach delighted me each and every day. From the gorgeous sunsets that I watched each morning from beach, to the delights I found snorkeling the cove. Not a day went by that I didn't see sting rays, or spotted eagle rays or sea turtles.

There's a delightful bar on the beach, and there were days that the live music called me from my work and beckoned that I go down and sip on a painkiller while I listened to the band.

I did not have a car the entire month I was there, and I did not find a detriment. The Vitran busses pass Crystal Cove often and for a buck, and a couple minutes ride, I could quickly get to Red Hook to the grocery store and a few restaurants. The rest of the time I took taxis. I spent far less than it would have cost me to rent a car for the month.

The unit itself is a basic two bedroom (one bedroom and a porch that could be converted to a bedroom, 2 bath with full kitchen unit. Complete with internet and air conditioning. I'll admit the air conditioning was heavenly :) I actually converted the porch to my office as I worked remotely for most of the time, and I must say that I loved the set-up. Windows open, listening to the wind and the waves and smelling the sea-salt air.

I'd highly recommend this condo for anyone whose main criteria are close to beach and economical lodging from a respectable owner. I won't need it again as I'm moving to St. Thomas in 2018 :)

Thanks Jerry!

Great location, steps from the beach

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for 2 weeks over the Christmas and New Year holidays. Jerry is extremely easy to work with, gave really helpful information about the island, and was always available to help solve any issues. The property is right on Sapphire beach, and this unit is about as close as you can get to the water. The beach is very nice, and except for a couple days when there were 4 cruise ships in port, never got too crowded. There is a small bar/restaurant on the beach attached to the property next door, nothing fancy but they will deliver right to your beach chair. You have access to free loungers as a guest of the property.

About the snorkleing, I've seen several reviewers say that they didn't see much. This is certainly true if you stay right on the shoreline. You have to go out maybe 50-100 yards, and then you will see every kind of fish you could imagine. I went out almost every day, and was never disappointed. My favorites were the sea turtles and the Spotted rays, which are really majestic, appearing to fly through the water.

The condo itself is very basic, but had everything we needed. It could use an update for sure, but for the price, I felt that we got a good deal. Having 2 bathrooms was really great for our family of 4. The plumbing can be a bit problematic, one toilet needs to be repaired (a repairman came by and looked at it, said it needed a part, then we never saw him again). As one other reviewer mentioned, the stove only has 2 burners that light automatically, the other 2 require a match.

Norma will change your sheets and towels if you ask, but I get the feeling she is really overworked, as a couple times she said she was going to come by, but didn't manage until the next day. Probably a symptom of the fact we were there during the busiest 2 weeks of the year.

The property is really close to Red Hook, but you can't walk, it's way too dangerous on the road. You will need a rental car, or figure out the rather chaotic public transit. Taxis are a complete ripoff, island wide.

Bottom line, this is a great rental. Not luxurious, but hard to beat the price for a beachfront location. Owner is easy to work with and responsive.

Beautiful and RIGHT on the beach!

  • 5 of 5

We can't say enough positive things about the hospitality we were shown by our hosts. Jerry and Norma were kind, helpful, and generous. They saved us from another condo situation where we were double booked and were out on our ears. Jerry called me from New York, gave me precise directions and a fair price quote, and helped save our wedding family vacation. When we come back in the future, we will stay at Jerry's place for sure. We are so grateful. And it was awesome that the air conditioning is on solar! Thanks Jerry and Norma!! <3

Location, Location, Location!!!

  • 4 of 5

What a great location! The condo really was just a few steps to the beach. It was a bit windy while we were visiting, but it was still just lovely. Jerry was extremely attentive in sending us before tips & tricks and was easily reachable once we arrived. Norma helped us with a few items in the condo which was great. He has plenty of snorkel gear there fitting all sizes. The kids loved it. The pool at the condo is a salt water pool and is really lovely.

Parking was a bit of a pain as it's a long walk to the condo from the parking spots. They are doing construction next door which made it difficult to park near the condo and not have a long walk. I'm only commenting on the walk as we have 2 little ones, that don't help carry much luggage or groceries. The condo is located upstairs and there is no elevator.

Sapphire beach is really lovely. We didn't see too much when we snorkeled, but we never went in the morning. There were many other people snorkeling while we were there, but they also commented that they didn't see too much.

We went to Coki Beach...it's nice, parking gets crowded, great snorkeling along the "wall", you will be asked to pay for the umbrella and or any chaise lounges you may want. The kids loved it. There are lovely people who will take your order for drinks. Music gets kind of loud the later it gets.

We also went to Secret Harbor beach. That was also a lovely beach. We didn't stay too long here.

We only gave this place 4 stars because the condo was not as nicely kept up as we expected. In the photos, you see 2 bathrooms with bathtubs, yet both shower/tubs could only be used as showers. We called Norma and she was able to get us a rubber stopper which helped. We would have appreciated a way to trade in our beach towels much more often as our beach towels ended up still being a bit wet the next morning. We were able to get our towels changed once in a 6 day period, and that was the day before we were leaving. The stove has 2 burners that light on its own, the other two burners require you to light it to make it work. Many of the rooms needed light bulbs to be changed. It would have only one bulb working and the other would be burnt out. The microwave is plugged into a power strip that would turn itself off, so you literally had to hold down the power button to have the micro working. There is a portable safe, but we did not have access to it.

Overall, I would recommend this condo. :)

Have you been searching for that perfect place to escape to where you can just relax and recharge? Well, you've found it!

Welcome to paradise, and the beautiful sunshine that gives you that gorgeous tan will also provide power for your comfort. That's right! Our condo is now solar powered! So, help the Caribbean stay as beautiful as she is by using the power of the sun that made her that way!

Sapphire Beach offers some of the best snorkeling in the US Virgin Islands. There are three separate coral reefs loaded with tropical fish and even octopus! The coral of many varieties abound, including brain coral, elk horn coral, pilar coral and much more. Centered between the coral reefs is a large grassy area where green sea turtles graze all day long, and you will see sting rays and even our favorite, the Spotted Eagle Ray.

There is no need to bring your own snorkle equipment. WE SUPPLY SNORKEL EQUIPMENT OF VARYING SIZES.

And all of this is just a few steps from the condo, a condo that is now GREEN!!!
