Description

Corbally Estate Rental Photos and Description

Estate, 3 Bedrooms + Den, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)

Aghaboe House was finished about 1730. It was the home to the famous Irish Antiquarian Edward Ledwich circa 1790. Ledwich was the author of 'Antiquities of Ireland' a two volume set with spectacular woodcuts published in 1795. A pristine copy may be inspected by prior arrangement.

The views of adjoining Aghaboe Abbey are enhanced at night with floodlights. The views of the nearby Slieve Bloom Mountains, winter home of Finn MacCool and the Fiana or Irish warrior class, are spectacular from the back patio and most of the bedrooms and common rooms.

The newly completed motorway system in Ireland makes the central location of Aghaboe House an ideal base for touring. Nearby golf and historic attractions are plentiful.

If you are looking for a real Irish 'Country Estate' experience this is it.

Large American pellet stoves keep the house warm and aired. The large oil fired AGA stove in the kitchen is an added experience.

There is a separate large sitting room and a separate large dining room as well as an eat-in kitchen.

Aghaboe House is both unique and unforgettable.

About Mike Fitzpatrick

My daughter was born here in 1986 and after completing her medical training in the States may return and run her clinic here.

I stumbled upon the historic property while researching my roots. It turns out that both my great-great grandparents on my Fitzpatrick side were born and raised in Aghaboe before emigrating in the time of the 'Great Hunger'.

I guess that this type of venture could be called a 'labor of love' and never really ends.

I hope that you will find it as enjoyable to be far from the hustle and bustle but near enough to everything you need.

There is a concierge/handyman living in a nearby building on the Estate to assist you.

Mike Fitzpatrick purchased this estate in 1984

Why Mike Fitzpatrick chose County Offaly

Unique Country House built almost three hundred years ago with care.

What makes this estate unique

I maintain a large wine cellar to which the concierge has access. The prices for the French and Spanish wines will be based upon continental prices that I paid not Irish prices. My personal preference is for Rioja Crianzas and Reservas so they will be in greatest supply.

I also have a decent library which you could peruse and enjoy.

Amazing Home full of Irish Charm

  • 5 of 5

My family and I met for a mid tour break in August of 2013 and decided to stay at this location. What an amazing place. Full of old world charm and excitement. Beautiful (and warm) pot stove pellet stoves in the guest rooms and an amazing aga stove in the kitchen. The Abbey is within walking distance and full of history. The cows and sheep add to its amazing character. Centrally located and easy to get around the country from. Highly recommend this property.

Wonderful house, centrally located for driving.

  • 5 of 5

The house and grounds were amazing. The caretaker was very friendly and helpful. The house was a perfect location for driving to the major cities and sites. Our family had a great time there. Quiet peaceful area, was great to return home to after a day of sightseeing. I would highly recommend the house, especially to large families, plenty of space for everyone.

Very cool old house.

  • 4 of 5

For sure this is a beautiful old house and the surrounding pastures and old abbey are gorgeous. The Aga stove in the kitchen is a beautiful thing and fun to cook on. Everything works though there are quirky things to be sure like the sink, dishwasher and stove sort of being in separate rooms but it's charming and workable. I do have to say that depending on how interior design oriented you are, you may find yourself distracted by elements of the decor. What really did me in were extra unmade (old) beds in more rooms than not including in the dining room and foyer! I have two quirky old houses and am truly not that picky but old mattresses and boxsprings are NOT appealing! On the other hand, if you are a party of 15, they will be made up for you (and therefore covered) and you will be happy for them. This did not bother my husband or son nor it seems, the other reviewers, so maybe it won't bother you! The caretaker is super helpful and friendly.

Perfect Irish Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

Photos do not do this beautiful manor house justice. The approach to Aghaboe Abbey with our vacation home behind it was breathtaking, not to mention the driveway up to the estate. A gorgeous green patchwork of color from every window-of which there are many-never got old. Ten of us in one house for ten days (six of us relatives) never got old. We shared many meals around the large wooden kitchen table and the Aga stove was both delightful to cook on and warmed the room pleasantly. A big favorite? Sleeping with the windows open and the pellet stove going. Many day trips and the on-site caretaker was not only helpful but very kind and entertaining. Even shared a home-cooked meal with us with a beautiful bottle of wine from the wine cellar. Best part of this trip was returning to this magical place every night with so many people I love!! Will do this again!!

Beautiful country manor house

  • 5 of 5

This was a return visit to Ireland and I wanted to be in close proximity to my relation and centrally located for sightseeing. We couldn't have found a more beautiful place. We were greeted by the caretaker upon our arrival who was so hospitable and kind. He showed us the house and grounds and was always available for questions and directions. The house is grand, but very homey and the views are wonderful. It was very easy travel to east, west and southern coasts. I would highly recommend a stay at Aghaboe House. The owner was very adaptable to our stay, as we were there for 3 weeks. A wonderful and memorable time which I hope to repeat next year.

Historic Aghaboe House

  • 5 of 5

My first memory of my first trip to Ireland will always be that of Aghaboe. My partner and I arrived at Dublin airport, exhausted and harried, and drove straightaway to this manor house in the country. It's a good thing we did: The caretaker cheerfully made us tea and showed us through this welcoming old stone house.

The pleasures were many: luxuriating in a deep soaking tub, sipping lovely Spanish wines from their wine cellar, meandering through the nooks and crannies of the house, and exploring the impressive library. At night Orion shone brilliantly in the velvet sky and in the mornings a step outside revealed a forgotten era. Here you can still breathe sweet soft air and gaze across the ridiculously green grass with cattle grazing to an ancient crumbling abbey.

From here we visited the surrounding countryside and nearby Kilkenny, but returning to the huge old house and its lovely grounds was most restorative. Though we went on to find my own ancestral land and many more touristed sites, this place remains special--authentic and unforgettable.
