About Julia Stone
We have been coming to Cape Charles since 2002, and can't seem to resist the charm of the old houses set in this great old town. Happily, there are also plenty of fun, outdoorsy things to do here, too. We ride our bikes around all the time, kayak at the beach, and have lots of family gatherings here.
Julia Stone purchased this House in 2010
Why Julia Stone chose Cape Charles
We LOVE Cape Charles. It is such a retreat for us to be among one of the most scenic and historic areas in Virginia. The old town charm is so satisfying, and the modern amenities of good restaurants, golf courses, beach access, boating, birding, kayaking, fishing, and antiquing are a great addition. People are nice here, and the pace is measured. Fun activities such as the Fourth of July parade, the Tomato Festival, Virginia garden week, and Christmas progressive dinner are very welcoming.

Great Family Fun
We had a wonderful time. The location of the house is great--a short distance to the beach and town. The house is comfortable and well equipped. The dining room is spacious. We enjoyed the front porch. The parking was plentiful. Thank you!!! We love Cape Charles!!!
Charming house for a charming town
We enjoy visiting Cape Charles on an annual basis and staying at different houses each time but this house makes us want to stay there multiple times!
The location, the corner property, the charm, the size and the layout all were perfect - we love, love, love Cape Charles and now we have a house we will most certainly love, love, love continually, as well!
I’ll start with the good and end with the bad!
The rental home was clean and charming for a 107yr old home. The owner was easy to communicate with and responsive. It was a quick walk into town or to the beach. We rented a golf cart and it was a minute ride to the beach...perfect with young kids! The rental had ample parking with the alley way in the back. The shed had a lot of beach items and the outside shower was helpful with kids. The washer and dryer was awesome to have too!
Onto the negatives: The beds in all 3 bedrooms were extremely uncomfortable which resulted in a poor nights sleep for a week. The room with bunk beds had a HUGE stain on the top mattress that you saw when on the bottom bunk. The pillows in all rooms had gross stains and we had to double up pillow cases. The rooms all had cobwebs on the tops of the walls. The door knobs kept falling off the bedroom doors and my mother actually got locked in and had to call us from the beach. The decor was confusing-it was Victorian, contemporary, and slightly beachy. They cable offered had very limited channels. Now, I understand it’s an old home but when one person woke up the entire house woke up--loud doors.
We love Cape Charles; however we will not return to this home.
Great house, great location
We had a wonderful stay at this house. It was the perfect size for our group of 4 adults and 3 kids. Location was excellent, just a short walk to pretty much everything.
First time at Cape Charles but we'll be back
The house was a great spot. Front porch was our favorite hangout.
Beautiful, Blue Abode by the Beach, and Boutiques!
More at home here than in my own home! The beach is a minute's walk away, the delightful town is lined with boutiques of eclectic merchandise, and the house is fully equipped and beautifully laid out. On top of it all, Julie and Steve are more accommodating than I could have dreamed.
Spent the weekend here with my two kids. Mornings, they played at the dining room table while I cooked in the kitchen: every implement you could need, and a stock of board games both familiar and strange :) The layout allowed me to get things done at the stove while chatting it up with the minions---perfect!
Beach access is right down the street, and it was fun to walk and explore even in the middle of winter. No one was brave enough to try a mid-February dip, but we will definitely give it a shot when we come back this Summer!
Shops can be found along the southern edge of town on Mason street. We went out for breakfast once, and got ice cream another time. Everything was delicious. The shops were full of interesting things, and I picked up a gurgling pitcher for my mother's birthday :) Also on Mason, we saw an amazing performance of classical and baroque music on banjo and piano at the Palace Theatre---very cool! At some point, made a spin around the park in the center of town. It gives a great sense of community and has a playground the kids loved :)
Everyday, the house was a perfect place to unload, get off our feet, and revel in our adventures. You won't go wrong staying here. We look forward to visiting again and often!
