Welcome to Hatch Pond in South Kent, Connecticut. We are Michael and Bruce, the property owners. We started out coming to the area for short weekend breaks from New York City. It very quickly developed into a place where we wanted to spend more and more time. I moved my antique business here (to the former bunkhouse of the winter ice workers, about a hundred yards from the cottage). We still go back and forth to the city, but Kent has become HOME.
Owner purchased this Cottage in 2008
Why Owner chose South Kent
We chose to purchase this property because of its uniqueness and flexibility with the varied 'out buildings'. The garage is now an apartment we stay in when we rent the house to you (if we are not in NYC or traveling). The barn or bunkhouse is Michael's antique store that is mostly by appointment, and open on summer Saturdays from 10 -4pm. Our chicken coop now keeps all the garden tools for the raised vegetable garden. The woodshed is for your bikes and trash bins.
What makes this Cottage unique
Kent is admired for its beauty and variety. The beauty is obvious; the Housatonic River and the surrounding Litchfield Hills. The variety comes as a discovery after being here for a while. It is a community that has revealed its general openmindedness and 'live and let live' attitude. Hatch Pond unfolds itself as a place of amazing beauty and serenity yet, very close to the many ammenities of the area. The ability to walk across the road to the boatshed and take in the morning or evening calm with a cup or glass of whatever is a magical elixir - come here and relax. I think that you and yours will enjoy a stay here even for a brief time. Careful though, you may just fall in love with it yourself and find yourself looking for something a bit more permanent - nice folks, always welcome !

Peaceful country retreat
Beautiful setting on well maintained and expansive grounds. The house is old but filled with charm, very clean, and well appointed. We loved the view of the lake, beautiful covered porch in back of house, and the tranquility of the location.
It was really great hosting you. Thanks for being awesome guests - come back soon or any ol' time !!!
The Perfect Country Home
There is nothing to criticize in this perfect getaway country home: the natural charm of the house, the selection of the decor and furniture, the setting of the property, and the kind and thoughtful owners made for an easy, idyllic vacation. Our stay was simply TOO short.
......thanks for your kind words. Your group is always welcome. Your good communications and leaving the house so clean are both very appreciated.
Charming country property
Cozy country cottage in a picturesque location. Accurately described in the listing. Convenient to the town of Kent with many shops and restaurants. Attentive and friendly host. Highly recommended.
Wonderful stay in the country
Amazing host. Our family just loved out stay by the lake. Charming house that comfortably fit our group of 5. We hope to return!
Corbett and family were great guests. Good communications and left the house super clean. Hope they return one day soon. A+
My wife and I with our friend couple spent a relaxing July 4th weekend at Michael and Bruce 's lovely property. They are welcoming and Michael gave us a nice tour of the house upon our arrival. They have a well maintained garden in the side yard and kindly provided us in fridge the fresh pick from garden. The house sits on the top of a small slope overlooking a tranquil pond. It is close to South Kent town center where you can find an array of good restaurants and galleries. It is a perfect place to get away from city hustle and we look forward to returning another time in future.
This group was friendly polite and awesome in every way. They left the house very clean and were a pleasure to know. Come back anytime !
Lovely stay. Great home. Perfect for us.
We had such a lovely stay in Kent. The home on Hatch Pond was beautiful and just what we needed. Beds were super comfy, and the whole house and property made us feel right at home. Michael was a gracious host, not just for his house but helpful with our whole stay. He even left us some of the bounty from his garden, and made extra sure, as well, that we felt the home was toddler friendly--a big plus for us. Thank you, MIchael, for a very special summer escape. We hope to stay again.
Your family is always welcome. Thank you for being perfect guests! And thank you for leaving the house is great condition. Come back soon.
Kent is part of the Litchfield Hills which are just below The Berkshires and is located on the Housatonic River. Kent is a one streetlight town with quintessential New England charm.
