A good place to stay for a few days.

  • 3 of 5

Home was nice. The mattress's really need to be replaced, they are really worn out. They only furnished six towels and bath cloths, so to accommodate 10 people, you should furnish more linens. We had to wash every day. Overall house was good for our family vacation.

Not impressed

  • 2 of 5

I can't say that I recommend this place. The area was nice where we stayed. The site doesn't show the full layout of what the parking is to the house. The roads up to the place were very curvy and steep. I know that this is the mountains, but other areas are not such. The parking was almost non-existence in front of the house. We had to go down and turn around so that we could parallel park next to house in the minivan. Lots of items in the house were broken or never worked to start with. The internet never connected from very first day; even with resetting it. There wasn't enough towels for 6 people for the days we stayed. The air condition wasn't great. The upstairs stayed warm and the bottom two levels froze to death. The TV and cable never worked in the very bottom level bedroom. The alarm system went off and had to be rest. None of the sheet or covers fit the beds. The grandchildren did enjoy the pool table and foosball table.

Owner's Response: The chalet is located off of Wiley Oakley Drive ( most mountain chalets are) which is maintained by the city and county and is in excellent condition. It is located up on the mountain but if you don't want to be in the mountains then one should probably stay at a hotel in the valley. The visitors after this group said that the internet was working and that the cable in the bottom bed room was working as well. We did not have to repair anything so it probably was operator error. The air vents on all levels of the unit can be adjusted as necessary and different groups do adjust them as they want to. If too cold then close them and if too hot open them up. The cleaning crew and not stated that anything was broke so I'm not sure what they are referring to.

It's cheaper than most for a reason....

Before I write this review, I want to say Mr. Russell seems like a nice man but I think he is very busy. It was the day before our arrival and I had not received an email giving me directions to the cabin or any kind of info. I called Mr. Russell and a lady answered, she said he had emailed me and to check my spam. I never check my spam so it was probably deleted if he did send it. So she said he would send me another email.I checked my spam and regular mail and he never did. The morning we were to leave, I had to contact VRBO to try to get some info. After VRBO trying to contact him and my husband trying to contact him, we finally got the info so we could leave. That was nerve wracking. The cabin is very spacious and has lots of room. However, I don't feel like housekeeping does a good job. The bedsheets did not look clean, the coffee pot still had the filter and grounds from the last renters, and dirty dishes were still in the dishwasher. Also, we could not get the washing machine to work properly so we had to deal with dirty towels. The foundation is splitting from the house and that was a little discerning as well. As for the pool pass, Mr. Russell told my husband that he would call the office and they would have us one ready. When we went to pick it up, they told my husband that the club fees had not been paid so they couldn't give us a pool pass. We didn't even try to contact Mr. Russell about our issues anymore after that. We didn't want to spend our whole trip dealing with texts and calls, so we just put up with it. However, we did enjoy our family time together in the Smokies.

Owner's Response: I will agree that I did not provide information in a more timely manner. I was on the road and simply forgot and there is no excuse on my part for that! We installed a new AC unit and tried for 2 days to fix the unit before that but it has been resolved. As for as the pool passes, I told them were to go pick them up, which is at the pool but they decided not to go but don't know why they complained about that. The bees were yellow jackets, which live in the ground. I have not seen any but they could be anywhere. We do not have nest attached to the unit such as wasp or hornets which we would remove if we did. The hot tub had a relay that was shorting out, so it would heat sporadically but that was identified and has been fixed as well. I have addressed with the cleaning crew the issues that were brought up by the guest. The sheets were clean we know for certain. Now I agree that even though the unit has been occupied most of July, with only 4 hours between departures and arrivals, that if they do not have enough time to clean it correctly, that they need to get more help on their crew. They have adjusted things though and they are doing a much better job.

I was disapointed and did not get what I paid for.

  • 2 of 5

There was barely enough parking for one car and although the cabin appeared to be fairly clean it seemed in disrepair as there were cracks and holes in the walls. The hot tub had a musty smell to the water and would not heat up and had a residue all in it so we could not use it and paid a hot tub fee. The pool table was in very bad shape and could not use it. We had a problem with yellow jackets in the house and several people in my group were highly allergic to them so this caused a lot of anxiety. I tried to contact the owner with no response back from him so therefore I cannot recommend this cabin nor this owner as someone to do business with.

Great family vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

The house as nice for all 9 of us. The top floor was extremely hot, we had to invest in a few fans other than that it was a great house. One of the highlights f the home we had a black bear visitor almost every afternoon around the same time. The kids loved it!

Beautiful

  • 4 of 5

It was an amazing place with plenty of things to do. It was clean and well taken care of. The only thing I didn't like was that the hot tub wasent working and the a.c. took hours to cool the place down. Other then that it was great.

Owner's Response: We did replace the central air conditioning unit and the hot tub is working. We did not know about the situation with the hot tub until after the visit but that is fixed. Thank you for the compliments!
