The 'Refnest' is located in the highly desirable neighborhood of Chamberlands on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe, just past Homewood and Homewood Ski Resort.
The 'Refnest' is a 4000 square foot family cabin, custom built by owner contractor in 1997. The cabin was designed with large family gatherings in mind. The expansive greatroom features a large stone, wood-burning fireplace, with comfortable furnishings for tv viewing, reading, and table games. The outdoor deck, off the greatroom, is a great place for summer dining, bird watching, or sunbathing. The fully equipped modern kitchen features a large island with stone countertops and seating for six, a dining table that accommodates ten, and abundant empty cabinet space, including a pantry for renter's supplies. The master suite, with King Bed, has plenty of room for additional young children, and a full bathroom next door. All of the above are on the top entry level of the home.
The downstairs contains 5 bedrooms: one king, 2 queens, and 2 bunkrooms with 4 beds each. One of these bunkrooms has a game area with tv and foosball for the kids. There are two full bathrooms, with a common vanity area, and a washer and dryer in the laundry area. There is an exterior door that leads to the beautifully landscaped backyard.
The driveway accomodates 4 cars in the winter, and in the summer months parking is available on the side parking area as well as on the street. The garage is also available when the ping-pong table is not in use.
In the summer months, the cabin is a short walk to our 'members only' private beach at Chamber's Landing. Visitors can also enjoy the public sandy beach & pier at Chamber's Landing.
If you prefer a ride to the beach, there is a neighborhood shuttle bus that will pick you up in front of our door, which runs on the half-hour. Our location offers easy access to the bike trail which is a block away, and Tahoe City offers River Rafting on the Truckee River. There is a boat launch at Obexer's Marina in Homewood, and also at Meeks Bay.
In the winter months, the cabin is a short drive to local ski areas such as: Homewood (1 mile), Alpine Meadows, Squaw Valley, and Northstar. If you prefer XC skiing, Sugar Pine Point has beautiful trails about 3 miles south.
This large family style cabin is perfect for family reunions, retreats, and small groups, excluding weddings and youth group activities.

We are the owner/builder of this property and a lot of family talent and time went into making this home special. It was designed with 'family rentals' in mind and we have paid attention to detail making sure you have all the comforts of home. We have had families who have rented consistently on an annual basis for the last 10 years. We have been vacationing in the Chamberlands area since the 1970's and we love the area and the local amenities. We know you will enjoy our 'Refnest'.
The Owner purchased this cabin in 1996
When our children and grandchildren stay at the Refnest, the area provides many options for outdoor adventure and the cabin is a peaceful place to enjoy the surroundings. The bike trail is one block away, there are numerous ski areas nearby, the lake and beach activities are close, and there are several dining choices.
We stayed here for a week this summer - it was amazing. The house is great for kids, with a large backyard and lots of things to do nearby. The lake beach club is two blocks away and biking was beautiful. It's also 2-3 miles away from Sugar Pine State Park which was also amazing and not crowded at all. The house is very clean and super organized. It's clear this is a family home, it's well maintained and everything you need is there. I highly recommend this home and the West Shore is a wondering summer spot.
I am part of a large family group who stayed at this wonderful vacation home in Lake Tahoe.
I want to take this chance, to say how very, very much we loved this home. It was so beautiful and comfortable and the rooms so large, it fit our family perfectly. We especially loved the very large kitchen with room for all to eat together. And the children loved the island counter and always chose to sit there even if it was just one of them having a snack. We had several meals that were fixed by many “cooks” at one time, yet there was plenty of room to spare. The living room with its huge windows made us feel like we were outside even when we were in. The bedrooms were perfect and with comfortable beds and we were so happy to have good storage in the closets and the very convenient shelf that ran along the walls of each room – ingenious. It just made everything easy. A big highlight was that lawn. The children played catch, red light, green light, did cartwheels and summersaults and blew bubbles. And the best thing for us was that they kept relatively clean! I could go on and on and never be able to say enough about this wonderful house.
Thank you for allowing us to stay there and creating such sweet memories. All agree, we want to come back.
Our family has vacationed on the West Shore for the past 10 years. This was our first year renting this property and I can assure you it will not be our last. The property far exceeded our expectations. It is designed beautifully and large enough to accommodate a large group comfortably. Lots of bedrooms, bathrooms, a great room and a gorgeous deck. We all enjoyed cooking and eating in the beautiful kitchen. The owners are great to work with and were very helpful before and during our stay. After our first day at the property our family had already committed to renting it again next year!
We rented the Refnes home over Labor Day weekend of 2012. We wanted to find a place that would suit several families comfortably to have a 50th BDay celebration. We were all very pleased with the Refnes rental, it is a lovely place for families and friends. There were 8 adults and 8 kids in our group and we all fit comfortably at the home. We had several other families over for dinner one night and there still was plenty of room. We also loved the location near the beach, Homewood, and Tahoma, very convenient to activities. Wish there were some cruiser bikes to take out and ride around but at least there's a bike rental within a mile. Everyone in our group agreed it's a house we'd love to come back to. And owners seem very nice!
After coming back to Chamberlands each summer for a family vacation for the past 30 years, it seems like we have tried most of the rentals that would best accomodate our family. Over the years our needs have changed going through different stages with our kids and their friends and now our adult childeren and our grandchildren. This house has everything that you will need for a great vacation. Lots of room, wonderful kitchen and great room, lots of toys for adults and kids, rooms perfect for kids sleeping or playing and a beautiful outdoor area in back with a lawn. Walking distance to the beach is a plus.
The house is BIG! We had multiple families and friends visiting Lake Tahoe and we are lucky to find this beautiful house. Lot's of rooms, game room, bunk beds and good for even 20 people!
I like the house more than Lake Tahoe!!!
The owner of the house is very friendly and very helpful.
Table Tennis @ Garage
Game room with foosball table
Lot's of Beds
I expected to see was Big LCD/LED TV, but was not there. But that's not a big deal as there are two TVs.
Since the house is too big, it takes time for heater to make the rooms warm.
OVERALL - PERFECT HOUSE for a PERFECT VACATION. Highly recommended.
