Great waterfront with sunrise views!

  • 5 of 5

Perfect location and cottage for our active family of 5. We love the Leelanau Peninsula and this was a great central location. Quick trips to Empire, Leland, Glen Arbor, Suttons Bay and TC. Lakefront had sandy bottom and great swimming off of new dock- perfect for kids. We rented a pontoon boat for a day and were able to briefly dock it. When not out on daytrips, we played in the lake with beach balls and relaxed in the rafts (provided) off the dock. When we walked in the house, it was very clean and stocked. Grill was ready with propane. Only thing this place is missing is a washer and dryer (but not a big deal for us). Owners are very responsive. Everyone we encountered was very nice and friendly, including the family that owns the farm at the top of the hill where they have a little farmers market. We hope to return soon!

Family tips: For a day of fun in the sand, we love Lake Michigan Beach in Empire (Bring water shoes for rocky lake bottom). Definitely visit Sutton's Bay for Little Bee's Italian Ice (excellent coffee and gelato) and excellent food at 9 Bean Rows (if kids aren't too picky- no kids menu, but our kids loved the trout entree and fancy cheese platter). Mom and dad were able to do a delightful wine tasting at 45 North while kids played Bocce and Baggo outside. Enjoy!

This cottage was perfect for our needs!

  • 5 of 5

Upon arrival, the property was spotless, filled with all the necessary supplies (and then some) and ready for our week. The dock appears new and was a great place to sit with a cocktail and book while listening to the movement of the water. The sunrises are spectacular over Lk. Leelanau out the back windows. There was plenty of space. We invited three folks to stay with us for part of our week and there was plenty of room and sleeping accommodations. The gas grill was in perfect running order for a Memorial Day BBQ. Lots of privacy. Owners were extremely responsive to any requests. Will definitely re-book.

Well kept and clean

The house was clean and cozy. We stayed off season and the owners were very accommodating to a later check out. We would definitely stay again.

Basic house with beautiful shoreline

  • 4 of 5

Basic amenities without central air or a lot of storage. Did have window cooling but no closet in main bedroom. Had comfortable beds and space for parking multiple cars and a trailer. The shoreline was sandy, had nice dock, we kept our deck boat on the good mooring provided. Neighborhood is quiet, don't need to worry about traffic. The owner of the house was available and returned calls promptly. Loved watching the sunrise, which we prefer over sunsets. Boated or kayak'd every day. The house was 10 minutes from the town of Leelanau, 10 minutes more to Sutton's Bay or Leland, to Traverse City within a half hour. Both catholic churches in area are old, recommend St Mary's in town of Lake Leelanau. Mass at Holy Rosary in Cedar is partially or fully latin depending on what day you go, very traditional.

Would not have wanted to spend days stuck inside the house, but worked well as our headquarters, using the lake and exploring the area during the day.

Traditional Michigan cottage with nice updating

  • 4 of 5

First of all, the cottage felt very clean when we arrived. The cottage is updated and was a great place for our family to spend the week (two children - 3 & 5). We've been vacationing in the area for years, but since our schedule didn't align with any friends or family, needed a house for just us this year. The lake is shallow near the cottage and was perfect for our kids to splash around in. The owners were very easy to contact, flexible with our short notice, and responded to emails quickly.

Traditional cottage feel with all the amenities of home

  • 5 of 5

We had a very pleasant stay in this cozy, clean cottage for a relaxing vacation. The owners have done a great job to assure that everything you need is at hand. The dock was handy for our small fishing boat. However, if you have a larger boat, it doesn't extend far enough to tie up, so you'll have to moor it in deeper waters. The mayflies had just hatched, so the fishing wasn't great, but the view of the lake is so beautiful, and the drive around the west side of the lake is breathtaking that just enjoying the view was enough. Three wineries are within a very short drive, one (Bel Lago) is a decent walk if you are ambitious enough to climb the hill. Chateau Fontaine was our favorite, and definitely try Martha's Table in Suttons Bay. The Northern Distillery is also a good stop in the village of Lake Leelanau, and we always stop into Dick's Pour House for a Plevalean burger. Much has changed since we last stayed in the area, but the lake itself and beautiful views are just the same. Felt like going home!
