About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

This secluded three-bedroom house, close to Truro Center, is a nicely designed contemporary with a distant view of Cape Cod Bay. It is located on a quiet hillside woodsy lot. The house has nicely decorated spacious rooms including a living room, dining room, kitchen, two baths, three bedrooms (two queen beds, two twin beds) and a loft/office spare bedroom. The house has a large deck with a gas grill for relaxing and picnicing. It is approximately one and one half miles from Corn Hill Beach on the Bay and two and one half from Ballston Beach on the Ocean. It is one half mile from Truro Center and close to the beaches, trails, fishing, and woods of the National Seashore. A small number of excellent resturants are available in Truro, but our house is only 10 miles from the many great resturants of Provincetown.

About Frank Stritter

My brother and I are retired and we love the Cape during the spring, summer and fall, but we migrate south to North Carolina during the winter months. I was a university faculty member and he was a systems engineer with IBM. We do much of the maintenance work on the house ourselves and have enjoyed meeting our guests over the years.

Frank Stritter purchased this house in 1999

Why Frank Stritter chose Truro

Because we love the Cape and the quiet of Truro.

What makes this house unique

We ejoy sitting on our deck as the sun sets. We enjoy fires on the beach, digging clams and grilling fresh fish. We enjoy running and biking on the roads around Truro and the trails of the National Seashore. We also enjoy a cold beer and a good meal in one of the nearby resturants.

Good and bad to this rental

  • 3 of 5

First the good: The deck is lovely, with a view in the (far) distance of the ocean but with a nice breeze. The house is spacious, and the master bedroom (on the second, main level) is nice. The area is quiet and it is close to some beautiful places in Truro. But there are significant bad points: The bedrooms on the ground level are unlivable. They are carpet on a concrete slab, and the musty/mildewy smell was overwhelming, no matter what we did - A/C, opening windows, etc. Spiders. The furniture on the ground level is old, which would be OK except that the mattresses were terrible, which didn't matter because, as I said, that entire level was unlivable. We had 2 guests who refused to sleep down there, so they slept in the loft, which was OK but very hot because there's no A/C anywhere. The wood floors on the main level would be nice but desperately need refinishing - they are a mess. The kitchen needs quite a bit of updating. Not a big deal, though. The major problem - which WAS a big deal - was that 2 bedrooms and the bathroom downstairs were not habitable. If the downstairs problem could be solved, and some sprucing up were done, the house would be a gem.

Owner's Response: Thank you to the guest who sent in the above review. First, I could not believe that I was reading about our house. We have owned “Hillside Contemporary” for 16 years, living here in the spring and fall in the areas the reviewer described as “uninhabitable”, and have never received a negative review. See the other reviews that are reported on this page. Second, I reacted that our house must be in such bad condition that we should implode the house and start over, but then I realized that we have to work with what we have. Third, I shared this review with our cleaner who was dumbfounded saying “No way!” She takes care of many houses on the Outer Cape and says that ours is one of her favorites. She reminded us that the Cape does have its own unique weather characteristics which often effect houses. These characteristics make it attractive to those who like to vacation on the Cape. All of that being said, we have done and will continue to do things to upgrade and update our house from carpeting to window air conditioning units to fans to painting etc. We have installed a new propane furnace and water heater and stained and sealed the exterior deck this spring and have a new roof and refinishing the wooden floors scheduled for the fall. We continue to try to stay up with it all and hope that our guests enjoy our house as we do. Occasionally we run into someone who doesn’t and we are sorry when that happens. Even so, we hope they will come back in the future and stay with us again.

Delightful getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I and our son and his wife and their 5-month-old child spent a wonderful week in mid-September at this beautiful, secluded house. The house is well-equipped and very comfortably accommodated our two families. The sunny living room and lovely deck were delightful; we especially have fond memories of dinner on the deck watching the sun go down and the evening sky over the bay. Provincetown, Wellfleet, beautiful beaches and short hikes are an easy drive away. We could happily make this an annual retreat.

Love this house

  • 5 of 5

This was the third time we've stayed at this wonderful home.Love the layout, the furnishings and the location. Feels like a large, secluded treehouse with a lovely deck and a view of the bay. Additionally, the house is well situated near the "downtown" of Truro and with easy access to both the ocean and the bay. Likewise, it is a short drive into Provincetown. We have already booked the house for next year and hope to make it an annual retreat.

Two tranquil weeks in Truro

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay in Truro last summer. The house is very comfortable, very well set-up for vacationers. It is in a very quiet spot with a fantastic deck with views of the bay. We actually saw a red fox a couple of times which was quite a thrill! Truro is such a lovely, quiet location with wonderful bay and ocean beaches. We would definitely recommend this house.

Wonderful, sunny home

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in this home for almost 10 years now. We love it! Our three kids have grown up on our vacations there, and the house still works perfectly for us. While there is lots of room for "togetherness", there are private areas for some quiet, too. The house is well kept, well stocked, and very comfortable. The neighborhood is quiet and lovely. It is a very private location, too. We also love that on either side of Truro is Provincetown and Wellfleet, both chock-full of great restaurants. While on vacation here, if we are not at the amazing beaches we are golfing, fishing, biking, flea-marketing, etc. We highly recommend this home for your vacation!
