Overview

About the property

Cabin, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

Here's your perfect opportunity to enjoy life in the Maine woods where you can relax, swim, canoe, kayak, watch the bald eagles, listen to the loons, and enjoy the sunset before you have a lakeside bonfire to roast hot dogs and marshmallows. Free Wi-Fi. This one bedroom cabin is just steps from 9 mile long Toddy Pond. Bring your canoe or kayak. If you're a fisherman, you can launch your boat at the nearby boat ramp, then fish for bass, trout, perch, and salmon.

Mid June through August bring warm summer days and cool nights. Or you might consider a trip to Maine in September as there are fewer crowds. October brings the incredible fall foliage that dots the landscape, the lakesides, and the roadsides. Come and take advantage of the incredible beauty and moderate temperatures regardless which month you choose.

Going east from Toddy Pond, nearby excursions include Mt Desert Island with Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park and Southwest Harbor. Sightsee, shop, hike the shoreline, bike the Carriage Trails, dine at the famous Jordan Pond House.

Going to the south and west, you won't want to miss the new Penobscot Narrows Bridge with its 442' high Observatory and adjacent Fort Knox, built for but never used during the Civil War. They serve to welcome travelers to Bucksport and Downeast Maine.

Camden, Rockport, and Rockland are 45-60 minutes south where you can take in several of the most picturesque harbors on the east coast. Climb or drive up Mt. Battie for a breathtaking view of Penobscot Bay and it's many islands.

Why Carol chose Acadia

After vacationing in Maine for many years, we purchased our dream vacation home on Toddy Pond. The peaceful serenity refreshes and restores us as we unwind and enjoy nature and the wildlife. Yet it is the best of both worlds in that there is a wide variety of activites for all ages either on Toddy Pond or nearby.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Had a wonderful and peaceful time at the cabin. We enjoyed our time at and around Acadia. Thanks for sharing

Perfect getaway cottage, perfect Hosts!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Perfect cottage on beautiful Toddy Pond! Carol and her husband were perfect hosts and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. They provided so much information and many helpful insider hints on local attractions in and around the Bar Harbor area--we barely used our guidebook!! Very easy access to Ellsworth, Bar Harbor, and of course Acadia and all the wonderful attractions there. Bike, hike, boat, enjoy the lobster, shop, or just hang out at the cottage and listen to the loons on Toddy Pond. Very relaxing, cottage was picture perfect in every way.

We cannot thank you enough Carol, my wife and I appreciate all you did for us. Thanks for sharing your beautiful cottage and it was great meeting you.

Nice little cabin, everything worked

  • 3 of 5

Cabin was nice but too far up hill from water for my taste. Also not private enough as other rental cabin was just above us and neighbors always right there looking over our cabin from their porch. Had to share a couple chairs on shoreline with others at the property or carry chairs up and down to shoreline.. Shower in bathroom was so small could not bend over to wash feet and doubt it would accommodate a larger person. For entertainment the internet worked well. Overall was a nice little getaway for a few days.

Idyllic, peaceful, cozy getaway

  • 5 of 5

The Loon Cottage was a charming, cozy, peaceful getaway, a fabulous little cottage where you can relax and renew in an idyllically beautiful setting on Toddy Pond. Fully equipped, no AC needed. The hosts were sweet and helpful from the booking to recommendations, to checkout. The location is central to all that downeast has to offer. The Activity Shop delivered our tandem kayak and picked it up after our stay. The "pond" (huge) is clear, clean and gorgeous! The loons, eagles, and other birds play a great soundtrack day and night. Highly recommend this cottage for an off the grid restful vacation.

Ideal lake retreat in Maine

  • 5 of 5

If you are seeking a peaceful retreat in the Maine woods, look no further! Loon Cottage is a classic, charming Maine cabin that is clearly well loved by its owners, Carol and Horace, who are exceptionally thoughtful and welcoming and were happy to offer helpful information about the local area (thank you!). The cottage itself is lovely inside and out and was appointed with everything I needed for a comfortable stay (from tissues to soap to very reliable Wifi); needless to say, the property was very clean and well looked after. Toddy Pond is a beautiful place for kayaking/canoeing, swimming, fishing, or (like me) just relaxing and enjoying the sunsets and the call of the loons. Well worth the trip – I wish I could have stayed longer!

Peaceful cozy cabin on a beautiful pond (lake).

  • 5 of 5

Exactly what we were expecting. Comfortable, charming. Carol and Horace are wonderful hosts. Would stay here again. Loved renting kayaks from The Activity Center out of Blue Hill. Just call them up and they will deliver and pick up the kayaks at a very reasonable price.

Loved the chatty loons at dusk and into the evening.
