About Honi Thompson

We have spent most of our lives out doors loving to camp, hike, ski, wake board, snowboard & enjoy everything the mountains & Utah has to offer. It has been our goal to spend as much time as possible together as a family!

Honi Thompson purchased this cabin in 2009

Why Honi Thompson chose Brighton

This location is amazing! Moments from both solitude & Brighton ski resorts. It takes us only minutes to get up the canyon to the cabin which makes it simple to still get grocery's or hit the restaurants. With Guardsman's Pass minutes away we can go snowmobiling easily. Tubing is minutes away as well. In the summer their are so many hikes we cant keep up!

What makes this cabin unique

We are in the heart of moose territory! We are constantly spotting them. Our deck off the back is a haven for wildlife it has a spectacular view of nothing but the mountainside & we love to feed all the birds especially blue jays, chipmunks & squirrels. The hot tub also looks right out into the woods and mountainside.

Best week of the year!

  • 5 of 5

Myself, my father, brother, uncles and friends rented the Mangy Moose for our annual ski trip to Utah. We walked into an extremely comfortable and clean cabin that was designed in a very unique way. We were able to park 3 large trucks in the driveway. The views from the deck were incredible, especially at sunrise. The cabin was anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes from 4 ski mountain we visited (Solitude, Brighton, Alta, and Snowbird). We had all of the kitchen supplies we needed to cook a different meal each night. The hot tub and sauna were key after a day on the slopes and helped the healing quite a bit. We were even lucky enough to get a tour of the entire property and access to the tipi with a fire pit and bongos when they weren't in use. Such a cool experience. We felt so lucky to have found such a nice place so close to everything that we're already talking about renting it again next year. Thanks for making us all feel home for our week away!!

Rustic hideaway

  • 4 of 5

We had two families stay at Mangy Moose for a Brighton ski trip. Location was excellent! Easy for non-skier to drop family off at slopes. Lodge was cozy and the three levels make it very convenient for two different families. We had a great time!

The only reason I did not give 5 stars is that some things need updating. Overall, we had a great experience and would stay here again!

Perfect mountain cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We had 2 families with kids and the Mangy Moose had everything we could have wanted. Firewood was stacked high and the fireplace was pre-loaded with wood and kindling ready to light! The charm of the place made you feel right at home and the house was filled with games to keep the fun going. They even had a collection of hundreds of VHS tapes which were nostalgic to use and fit the vibe perfectly. The owners were just a call away to answer any questions and were super friendly. The spa is modern and set up in a perfect spot with complementary robes, also a nice touch. Ten stars if we could!

Great Cabin in a Great Location with Great Owners!

  • 5 of 5

I get together with a group of friends from high school every few years for a few days of fun and camaraderie and we came back to the Mangy Moose for a second time for a winter skiing event this year.

The cabin works great for our group: it is outfitted with plenty of bed space, the kitchen is well-equipped, and its ambience fits perfectly with its mountain surroundings.

It snowed 8”-10” every day we were there and the owners, Dave and Honi, always had the driveway cleared for us before we left in the morning to go skiing.

Dave and Honi are committed to making sure the cabin is ready for the vacationers and they are always close by to help if needed. Thanks Dave and Honi!

We will be coming back to the Mangy Moose when it is my turn to host the group again.

Cabin is amazing, owners are great people and excellent hosts.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the cabin across from Mangey Moose (Scraggly Squirrel). The cabin had everything you need for a great stay: the cabin was warm, the hot tub was hot, there was plenty of beds and places to sleep. The best part about staying here was that the owners were also up the cabin and were quick to help us with any questions or needs we had during our stay. 10/10 will definitely book with them again.
